... Don't offer a product if you can't deliver it.

Good point.
I´m a bit out of the loop: Is there an official statement as to why the 8800GT-Mac Pros are so far delayed?
All I know is that I ordered mine almost 10 days ago and apparently it won´t ship for another 3 weeks. :(

Waiting

I to am waiting.

Ordered 1/16
Ship 2/22
Arrive 2/28

I ordered the 2.8 8 core with wifi (hard to run wires in my house) and the 8800.

Should have bought my memory from OWC before the price went up but my credit card this bill is mighty enough already.

Am waiting on a monitor, I have an 27" LCD TV that should do for now. Definitely curious to see what displays come down the line

I was telling my lady tonight that I'm just tired of thinking about it, reading about it, then anticipating for it... I just wish it were here so I can stop thinking about the thing.

I just feel like Bob from "What about Bob".... baby steps to the release date, baby steps till it gets to my door, baby steps till i open it... ;)

i just wanted to tell someone i'm so sick of waiting. i cant do anything on this machine, knowing i'm getting a new one in three weeks.

Lack of interest from Apple

I cant understand why Apple wont just come out and tell people what the problem is. I ordered a 3.2 MP with a 1TB HDD and an 8800GT on the 7th Jan. I have to wait until 14th Feb for delivery. 5 damn weeks!

I have owned and do own a lot of Apple products. Two MBP's a Mini a G5 dual 2.0 and a whole host of peripherals. I have never had to wait long for any of them.

I have some serious video editing which I was hoping to get started on the new MacPro. Unfortunately, because of the delay, I am getting pressure from clients and have no choice but to start the work on the - much slower - G5.

There is so much speculation and guesswork about these delays all of which is well intentioned but unhelpful.

If only Apple would tell us all what the delay is it may make things a bit easier to understand.

Hope one of Steve's boys is watching this thread!

I myself am worried about Groundhog day. Not that my Mac is due to ship that day but I'm concerned I'll wake up and not get passed it?

I'll second the tired of waiting part. Although my RAM is due to arrive today from OWC - 16GB (8x2).

Macpants,

I think we have signed up for the same club! I wish they would give some valid information on the cards.

I hope it's just a supply issue and not anything that could further delay the cards. I have lot's of images to edit here and I had to bite the bullet and begin the work ASAP since I could run into some cancellations.

I was really hopping to get the new system ASAP and complete all pending work before I go on location next month!

Again, I wish I could have know what I was getting my self into. This is a clear case of setting customers expectation beyond what could have been met.

I sure that Steve is not a happy camper these days, delays, users complains , and a stock that is not doing too well...

Jemo07

I think Apple must think we all want £3000 computers for playing games on. No wonder he made no mention of the 2008 MacPro in his keynote. I mean he could hardly say "And this will be available - TODAY" Even the MB Air's are going to hit the shelves before the MP with the 8800. So, come on Apple, What the hell is going on?

Has anything really changed from the day we decided to upgrade our new MP with the 8800, and were told there would be a delay? I bought a couple weeks ago and my est. ship date is still the same, end of Feb. Those who went with the base chip were happily using their new rigs almost immediately. Everything was up front,,, go with the base unit we have ready to ship or walk out of the retail store with, or wait for the upgraded chip to become available to install. We made our choice with full disclosure of the fact we would be waiting while base buyers were using their powerful new 8 cores. We need to live with our decision, devoid of unwarranted whining.

For all those complaining on this thread: straight up, relax. Oh no, you have to actually wait! It's a machine...try 9 months. The less you think about it, the faster it will come. And if you have some sexual attachment to the idea of the silver finish and the big case and massive power load...I suggest you relish in the idea of waiting, it will make it better.

Amen my brother - I'm in the same boat and share your pain.....

What pain? You're sitting in front of a computer right now. Developed countries live in such a dream.

Wake up - stop creating pain that doesn't exist, it won't relieve you from the numbness.

WOW - Flame On!!!

Yes. People knew there was a delay at the point of order. But is there really any harm in hoping that delay might go away and shipping times be brought forward? Is it too much to ask the reason for a delay? Stock issues driver issues - all guesswork.

All we are asking is that Apple comes clean and tells us the problem. If you know the reason it is much easier to accept the delay.

I am glad you chaps have the patience to wait mindlessly without a care in the world - no matter how long it takes. And I hope you enjoy whatever it is you do with your Mac when you get it. It's heart warming to know that there are such happy go lucky non - whiners out there who complain about nothing and achieve even less.

Please shut up. He wasn't whining. He asked for a reason for why it takes this long. Can't handle that?

I've been wanting to whine ever since I ordered, but I haven't. Still, it must be allowed to whine a little about having to wait so long for something like this.

I happen to believe that some unwarranted whining is good for the soul. However, I'm reserving the better part of my whining for the bugs and misbehavin' antics of the MP when it finally arrives. You gotta admit that when you're lugging a 45 lb. Mac Pro 1/4 mile from the mall parking lot into the Apple Store, a loud "Bwaaaaahhhhhhhh" sure feels good. :D

LMAO!!!! :D

Just to put things in perspective, when the 2.5 GHz G5s were announced early June 2004, the first ones with the stock video cards were delivered mid August. That's around 11 weeks. Those with the 6800 based cards were delayed even longer.

This is Apple, I'm afraid. It's business as usual. They do not involve the general public in the inner dealings of their company. Deal with it or go elsewhere. You're doing no one any favours by getting wound up, especially yourselves and those around you.

Meh, confumer dissatisfaction should never be quelled so easily. Otherwise companies get arrogant and pushy. I'd gladly go and buy an HP Penrynn based system, but I'm locked in to OSX-only software for work - so there goes your "go elsewhere" scenario.

I think I'll pass on your 'take whatever companies throw at me and be happy about it' lifestyle.

Exactly. It's disturbing that consumers think otherwise.

I would kind of just like some verification at this point...

Are they low in stock? Is it a drivers issue? All we've got is speculation--and the speculation just makes things even more unbearable. I mean, for all I know the computer could ship tomorrow or next month. But, the fact of the matter is, I've got some HDV video editing to do now. ;) So, am I whining? Yes! And, I'm not afraid to admit that.

On a side note, I'm starting to wonder whether the 8800GT is even worth it...I ordered it because I thought it would boost performance in motion and After Effects, but maybe I'm wrong.

Actually, it probably wont help much. The fast GPU may take a bit of stress off the processor but with such a beefy processor it may not pass anything to it. The 512mb graphics memory will give you better colour depth. All of this will help a bit but, certainly for the apps you are talking about, not much.

It's not about "consumer dissatisfaction". It's about totally unrealistic expectations on the part of overly optimistic customers. When customers ordered their Mac Pros with 880GTs, before they clicked that button, they were quoted "Shipping Time: 3-5 weeks". We've just hit 3 weeks since then. They're not overdue until 2 more weeks have passed.

I saw posts 2-3 weeks ago along the lines of "well the site says 3-5 weeks, so it might get here in 3". A few days later and people are telling themselves that it ought to be early. This is totally the wrong attitude and it just sets people up for a fall. A better way of looking at it is "Well, it won't ship until 5 weeks, so I won't panic until then" but that's too much to hope for in this era of instant gratification.

When I ordered my Mac Pro with Nvidia 8800GT by calling to Apple Store, the person in the phone said that the reason for the late shipment was that they get those Nvidia graphics cards at the first week of February.

Order date: 17 January
Shipment: 21 February

Still few weeks untill I get my Mac..Can't wait to get it :)

They should list the availability date before the purchase is completed, its kinda odd that they don't.

Did you order it with an 8800??

No change in my MP w/ 8800 order:
Order Date: Jan 23, 2008
Ships by: Feb 13
Delivers by: Feb 19

1 TB Time Capsule ordered the same day doesn't ship until March... I wish they'd bill the card so I can get it paid and stop second guessing myself.
