The X is Too Big For Me...

Weight and having a taller display might also be playing a factor. The weight of the PS Vita phat holding it while lying in bed is why I wanted the slim.

Lightest 4.7" is the 6. The X is heavier than the 6 Plus but lighter than the last three Plus models. Add the fact that many are adding cases to make it feel more like a brick.

X is smaller than the Plus models thanks to being narrower and shorter but it's noticeably heavier and feels more condensed than the 4.7" models. The 4th heaviest iPhone ever.

I noticed this right away when picking it up and trying to use it one-handedly. Weight adds bulk. Not just dimensions. This will be a bit of a shock for folks who are accustomed to 4.7" iPhones.

Luckily I've been using the plus models since they were introduced.

However I agree, it's definitely a hefty device for its size, my S8 felt much lighter and thinner.

But I'll take it, I can easily use it one handed if I must and I don't feel as if I have a brick in my pocket with the plus model.

That's irrelevant - there's market to capture.

Tim Cook's own comments admit they were caught off guard and I'll be shocked if they don't have a plan to continue capturing the small phone market moving forward. It's just bad business not to, and we know Apple is not about bad busine$$

I'm not sure how much Apple will invest into capturing a small piece of the market.
But ok.

I hold and use the iPhone X with my left hand and cannot reach the Safari tabs icon with my left thumb. It would be nice if I could move the icon to the left side for better application.

Engage the Reachability feature and you can easily pull down the Control Center, as the screen is moved down when Reachability has been engaged. No need to try and reach the upper right corner.

Yes I’m aware and that is an option but I really don’t want to have to add another step to access control center. It should be quick and easy. Plus, reachability doesn’t work 100% of the time since the window is very small to reach down from and at times results in just pulling down the screen. I know I’m sounding like a whiny b**** but I just want easier control center access Apple. Lol

Right our son is 6’3” 240 lbs bigger than everage hands and he had a plus and exchanged it for a 7 because he said the plus felt like a brick in his pocket.

I have average size hands but I’m on the go most of the day. Not saying I can’t use the X one handed. I can’t use it comfortably one handed. When I’m on the go I need to whip out my device from my cell phone pocket and be able to use it comfortably. With my 7 no issues at all. With my X it’s not although I can use one handed it’s not nearly as comfortable as the 7 when you’re whipping around texting and apps. I often have to stop what I’m doing with the X because since it’s uncomfortable it will fall out of my hand because I have to do a lot of adjusting. And I did drop my X but luckily it was on the grass.

I walk our dog a lot in a trail. I can literally text one handed with ease with my 7 while walking our dog. With the X for some reason no matter how I hold it or adjust it’s not nearly as comfortable and dropped it a couple times.

Not sure what it is with the X. Not sure if it’s the weight or something. Maybe the height makes it too heavy not sure.

But when I’m in a setting like sitting laying on the couch or in bed the X is FANTASTIC! An incredible device. I don’t have an office job sitting at a desk which would be similar setting. I’m on my feet most of the day trouble shooting stuff while moving, looking at work orders, texting back and forth while on the move with departments etc.

I’m 50/50 returning my X. I’m hoping next year they’ll be a 7 with full screen which would make it a 5” screen. The 6 and 7 for me is perfect size in form factor but like I said I would love to see a full edge to edge screen which is doable.

I measured my 7 and it looks like there can be a 5” screen getting rid of home button and the top.

I returned mine and went with an 8 plus. Even my gf who is tiny laughed at the size of the phone. Called it a toy when she saw it. But everyone has a diff opinion. Whatever works for them is all that matters.

I LOVE the X when I laying around on the couch or when I’m inside the house. I also love how comfortably pocketable the X is. Had a Plus in the past and had to return it cause it wasn’t comfortably pocketable.

The X is an amazing device. For me it’s amazing to use when I’m in settings that can allow me 2 handed use. I don’t work in an office setting I work outside. I often get texts and have to respond to texts one handed. I also have to use certain apps one handed. Maybe I have small hands but can’t do these comfortably one handed. I have to drop what I’m doing and respond or do certain apps 2 handed. With the 7 I could easily and comfortably do one handed. I dropped my X a couple times luckily on the grass cause I was trying to do stuff one handed and it slipped out of my hand from adjusting the phone. I had to switch the sim back into my 7 for work last week.

Anyone else finding the X a little too big for one handed use? I always would have loved to see a 7 with full screen and no home button keeping the same form for one handed use.

I can't be bothered to read the replies. But do you use reachability? that certainly helps alot. The X isn't that much wider than the 7. It is taller though so you should be okay if you use reachability

I prefer to be able to use my thumb. Plus since I use control center a lot doesn’t seem like reachability works with that.

The impression I got was is the iPhone X could do with being slightly wider and taller, I was actually shocked at how small the device is! Also there is no setting to reduce the size of the icons as with previous iPhones :O

You can also use the middle too, but yeah I understand what you mean. Hopefully you get used to it in the future

I have the X and my 7. I’ve been actually imagining if my 7 was full screen with no bezels and using my thumb if it was. For some reason it feels much better than the X even though I have to adjust a little with my thumb. What makes still awkward if my 7 was full screen is swiping down on the left for notifications. Control center would take some adjustment but not nearly as bad as my X.

When I’m at work I bring both my 7 and X and after a bit with my X I find that I need to swap sims and use my 7 because I work in situations that make the 7 more comfortable and feels more secure in my hand for one handed use. However when I get home and in a different setting it I use my X. If I had an office job I would be comfortable with the X most likely cause I could lay it on a desk and would get used to it using 2 hands if needed.

This might sound crazy but my test is ‘walking the dog test’. Using a device comfortably with 1 hand walking the dog. The 7 is definitely without a doubt more comfortable and secure in my hand whipping around while walking our dog. I’ve dropped the X a couple of times walking our dog.

The IPhone 6/7/8 is the absolute largest footprint and weight I desire out of a phone.

Although, I have been using an SE for about a year now and love how pocketable and easy to toss around it is.

I would like a larger screen, but not one in a heavy, glass encased fragile and extremely expensive to repair format. (Back glass repair on 8/X is a freaking cash grab)

I’m pretty sure the X footprint is the future for Apple. Like you I don’t think there’s going to be a smaller variant but definitely a larger one. Man I was hoping and somewhat convinced that the X would have been the same footprint as the 7 and then there would have been and X Plus. But with Face ID I’m not sure they could have done it with the 7 footprint. The X footprint is a compromise between the non Plus and Plus which the comprise isn’t my preferred and desired footprint. Damn!

I’ve said said Apple could easily make the 7 footprint full screen.

Since you are the thread starter, I will take this off topic for a moment.

For year, and I mean years... I and all of my fellow OSX users laughed at PC users because Windows was so fat and bloated that the only answer they had was to throw faster hardware at it in hopes to alleviate/mask all the jank and hiccups.

Years of smooth iOS use has me thinking about the stability and direction of iOS. Seriously, the A11 is stupid fast. Yet, I can’t get a smooth experience out of an ip8.

It’s more than just the design giving me caution. This Apple needs help.

For the record, let me get this straight for all those on the X train. It is a beautiful device, no question.

I just question a lot about the engineers developing the software at this point. The X is a beast of a phone, but I sincerely hope they cut the fat/excuses and deliver what you all deserve to be running on that beautiful device.

It absolutely can be addressed via software. I hope it does and only want the best for us the users.

With the introduction of the A11, it’s now time for a complete redraw of the os and it roadmap.

I’m in hopes of a Pro version of iOS. One that allows professional apps and a more powerful vision.

iOS is currently in training wheel mode. I can understand why to some extent. They have to cater to all ages and technical curves in one platform. (Children, Teens, Adults & Seniors)

While I’m pretty confident the training wheels are best suited for those in the first and last of that bracket, it absolutely masks the true ability that can be achieved with the A11 and next gen hardware.

It’s a crossroads I’m not sure Apple is ready to address. The last few iOS releases have shown it has pretty much plateaued and is held back by design.

Especially when looking at the latest iPads. These devices should be the ones to launch said iOS Pro on. Would be a fantastic teething device to work with before shrinking it down to the phone.

I’m not quite sure what Apple is waiting on or if they even know the issue or path forward.

I don’t claim to have all the answers. I can only say the 6/7/8 & X all can do the exact same things with the roughly same experience. (Face ID, Screen Size and Speed being the only main differentiators)
