Ironically, the Yankees remind me of the sox team from a few years ago. A team that could out-slug everyone but had mediocre pitching. The sox realized that they could never win with a team like that and started acquiring pitching.

Torre's handling of the pitching has been awful. Occasionally you have to leave a pitcher in even if they are getting shelled in order to save the rest of the bullpen (see Tim Wakefield, game 3 2004 ALCS). It says something when 3 (yes 3) of the yankees relievers are set to break the record for most appearances in a season. By september there could be alot of dead arms in that bullpen.

The problem is, several of their starters are banged up, so they are forced to restrict their pitch counts to aid their recovery. They don't have anyone in their rotation that can suck it up and pitch 110 pitches (at least not right now).

I did like the fact they traded away randy johnson for some young arms, seemed like a smart step in the right direction.

I have read some reports that Mattingly would be the guy to take over if Torre is fired, but remember they also have Larry Bowa on the staff, a guy with managerial experience.

These are the win-ingest Yankees Managers. And also the longest.
Only 4 managers have been there for more then 10 years.

Miller Huggins 1918-1929 1067-719-10 .594
Won 3 World Series, 6 AL Pennants

Joe McCarthy 1931-1946 1460-867-18 .622
Won 7 World Series (incl. four consec.), 8 AL Pennants

Casey Stengel 1949-1960 1149-696-6 .621
Won 7 World Series (incl. five consec.), 10 AL Pennants

Joe Torre 1996- 1079-699 .609
4 World Series (incl. three consec.), 6 AL Pennants

If anything I think the Yankees will bring back Joe Girardi to manage. He did a good job with the Marlins last year and right now is a Yankee broadcaster. I don't think Mattingly is ready yet. In a few years I can see him getting the job as he is being groomed for it now.

You guys should just not fire Torre. He's a good manager, and it's not his fault your rotation is so injured and crap.

You bitch about him taking Wang out after 6. The guy just came off the DL, do you really want to work him so hard in his first start that he re-injures himself?

I'm sick of Yankees fans because they only support their team when they're winning. Something bad happens, they cry about it, bitch that everyone should be fired, boo their star players, etc. Support your ****ing team.

If there is one thing I have done for the past 20 something years its to support the Yankees. But they have to make an effort to want to win. It is kind of ironic for the Red Sox fans to be talking about loyalty when for 86 years they were the biggest cry babies about everything when the team didn't win.

The fact is that this team is not supposed to be in last place the last week of April. They are much better then that. Injuries are one thing but there doesn't seem to be any real urgency to want to win.

I've supported/followed the Red Sox ALL my life, thru good and bad.I'm not one of these pink hat yahoos that jumped on the bandwagon after 04.I didn't go out the day after the Sox won the series and load up on Red Sox paraphenalia. My cap is old and beat up,well worn. The cry babies are the ones who have been on the wagon since 04. Have no clue about the game. They think a hit and run is a car accident.Don't make blanket statements about Red Sox fans. That would be like me saying that all Yankee's fans are arrogant, aloof and obnoxious ;)

It could be worse- You could have lost your division after fourteen (well... thanks to the strike season) in a row. ;)

I keed!

Yankees and Red Sox fans are a lot alike. They want the best for their teams and are not afraid to let emotion get in the way. As much as I hate the Red Sox and everything they do the competition levels that the Red Sox force on the Yankees is what makes it fun to watch and also what makes both teams fight to the death. We both share a common goal and that is to win, I think the true fans understand that they are the same people just one bleeds red and the other pinstripes.:)

The official word from Steinbrenner is that Torre is still the manager.
George Steinbrenner said:
"The season is still very young, but up to now the results are clearly not acceptable to me or to Yankee fans, However, Brian Cashman, our general manager, Joe Torre, our manager, and our players all believe that they will turn this around quickly.

I believe in them. I am here to support them in any way to help them accomplish this turnaround. It is time to put excuses and talk away. It is time to see if people are ready to step up and accept their responsibilities. It is time for all of them to show me and the fans what they are made of.

"Let's get going. Let's go out and win and bring a world championship back to New York. That's what I want."

2005 they had the same record 9-14 to end April.

Huge difference..At least in 05 they had some resemblence of a pitching rotation..If you guys are banking on Pavano to be a key in the staff, disappointment is on the horizon....You can only outscore teams for so long before the pitching catches up to you...

At some point you have to say if the kid has it or not.Even considering injuries, he hasn't..At what point do you cut your losses?

WTF!!

Phil Hughes of the yankees has a no hitter going in the 7th, and then appears to pull a hamstring (doesn't appear major though) and has to leave the game.

Seriously. WTF is wrong with this team??? :(

What's that, Tom Brady is a Yankee fan.:D

The ever-vigilant paparazzi snapped New England Patriots QB/QT Tom Brady sashaying through the streets of New York City yesterday shamelessly sporting a New York Yankees cap! Tom and his galpal, soon to be ex-Victoria’s Secret model Gisele Bundchen, were strolling hand-in-hand in the West Village when he was snapped committing the horrid topper transgression.

Red Sox Nation was shocked and appalled and - as is our way - making excuses for the Bronx Bombers blasphemy.
“We know that Tom has an array of Red Sox caps from which to choose,” said team spokesguy Dr. Charles Steinberg. “But we fully respect that he needed to wear a suitable disguise for his own health and protection. We don’t doubt that he’s a card-carrying member of Red Sox Nation.”

Roger Clemens just announced he will play for the Yankees. Can't say I didn't see this one coming.

At least the Red Sox don't seem to have a problem hitting him.
