My iPad (3rd Gen) Screen is flawless, no lightbleeds no crazy color tints. Guess I got luck of the draw.

However I bought an iPad2 on launch day (64gb Wifi) and was so displeased with the screen quality after spending that much money. Got a 32gb iPad 1 refurb instead and waited for next gen.

I can see why people would want to return it for not being nearly perfect, but on the other hand I think people can go out of their way to notice something that may not really effect daily usage.

Wow. I had no complaints with the screen on my 32GB I bought on launch day. Exchanged it today for a 64GB because I want the extra space. Lo and behold, the left corner of my screen is purplish pink. Oh well, back it goes.

Do you know the built week? I don't know how much longer I can wait.

If you can live with that screen instead of jumping into the screen lottery game, then just keep it. I just hope that Apple will iron out the kinks asap which I believe they will.

I fully intend to repurchase an iPad again after waiting for this screen lottery to end (or at least increase my odds of getting a good one once things hopefully settle down).

Exactly what I thought. But when is the right time?

If or when the complaints about the screen quality start to subside I figure. Right now, there are new posts every day about the issues. Or once it's known that LG or Sharp are supplying screens. Then I will play the lottery again!

I think this is just a quality control issue and that Apple will tighten it up a bit.

Its a bad idea to be posting things like this on MR forums.

The fanboys on here dont like it when you speak the truth.

And you also get those idiots who think they because nothing is wrong with their iPad, that everyone else's iPad is fine too.

The irony is that most people who buy Macs WANT a Samsung display, due to the LG ones being poor quality.

Apparently there are some LG screens around atm, but are very scarce.

Hopefully the screen issues were just for the initial batch that Apple got together and when my new one arrives in a week or so it'll be fine. But I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, I also think this is an initial batch issue. I just don't want to start the buy/ return cycle again until something changes.

The whole idea of a forum is for people to discuss their issues/problems/experiences. We should be allowed to have our inputs here. Who cares about what the fanboys think. I have been a lurker here for quite a while, finally decided to register today to share my side of story.

Yes. What matters in the end is that it's YOUR hard earned money that buys these devices. You should be completely satisfied with your purchase and that's all that matters. No one should just "settle" for mediocre quality. The big companies will always make a huge profit regardless, especially one like Apple.

I know. I have nothing against people discussing things.

Its the people that come on here and accuse people of being OCD and effectively say that all iPads are perfect because the one they own is.

I never said i have an ipad problem. I like many others are just tired of your posts. You obviously have a bug up your butt about something. All being here from the beginning has done has made you cynical.

I have three words for you.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Just wanted to share an update on my experience. I returned my original white 64g LTE unit (mfg week 7) received on launch day last Tuesday, March 20 and repurchased another white 64g LTE iPad (mfg week 3) because I decided VZW has better LTE service than AT&T in my area plus I was very disappointed with the dim, yellow screen and uneven tinting (noticeably darker at camera end). I got the new unit home and immediately turned it up to full brightness. I ran it on an all-white image overnight for two nights in a row. It definitely brightened up the screen but this particular unit runs VERY hot on full brightness and/or when charging, even at 50-60% brightness. Much hotter than my MBP's over the years have ever run. This unit also has a greenish cast at button (opposite) end of iPad which is very distracting when reading text on white pages or using the keyboard. I have given this unit hard use for a week. The heat issue has gotten somewhat better after running the battery down close to zero a few times and recharging but then today it got very warm when I was reading a book on the Kindle app at 50% brightness. Anyway, the point is, I have given the problems a chance to resolve and have tried all the different tips but my iPad is still running VERY warm and the uneven tint has not resolved with time so I will be returning tomorrow once again to the Apple store to exchange one more time. Hopefully this one will be free of major defects. At this point, if it has a uniform screen and doesn't overheat, I will be so happy! I am not asking for perfection but the uneven tint is so distracting if you read alot or frequent forums and the like. If the 3rd unit exhibits similar problems, I will be asking for a refund and looking for a leftover iPad 2 to replace the one I gifted to my husband when I preordered the new iPad. (He refuses to give it back - imagine that!). Hoping for the best....

Yep. I want one just like that one!

I was actually sincere when I made this comment and thought his screen looked quite acceptable...

Let's all keep it nice and pleasant, please...:)

Also wanted to chime in with my experience playing the screen lottery. So I originally preordered a 32 gb black wifi. The screen on it is very good and even and no yellow or pink tint. However, I decided that I wanted to get a 64 fb version instead. However, I was aware of all the known screen issues, so I decided to keep my 32 fb for comparison's sake. Few days ago I went to the NYC Grand Central store and got a 64gb. Got home and even before comparing it to my 32 gb I could tell it had a yellow tint. Upon comparison it was obvious that it was really yellow. So I took it back and had it swapped for another. This time the one I got was really pink, so back it it went. The third one was also pinK!! My girlfriend also agreed that all 3 64s have had a far inferior screen to my 32.

I am going to keep trying until my last day I have to return the 32 fb, but if I don't find a 64 without as perfect of a screen as my 32, I'm just going to keep the 32 and live with the smaller capacity. Honestly, the screen is far more important to me. In any case, this just goes to show how much of a crapshoot these screens are and how bad the quality control is for these.

Man you people that keep returning your iPads really have no lives. 4, 5, 6 or even 7 times you look for something that isn’t there.

So for every device that gets released we have people like this. You guys make it seems like a widespread problem. Its not, the only problem is the one in your head. The Genius bar must hate people like you, maybe even more than the scalpers
Oh no, if I turn the brightness up tyo 100%, and turn off the light and restart the iPad to show only the startup screen then I can see Blacklight bleeding. How stupid do you people sound?
Newsflash, most LCD’s have blacklight bleeding. Check it out on your TV.

I have owned 3G, 3GS, Iphone 4, iPad, iPad2 and the new iPad, a Macbook Pro, Airport Express, Apple TV and Apple TV3, and never had the amount of time wasting as some of you do with your products.
Do you do the samething when buying any other product, or are you just this anal about Apple products?

I agree.

The screen tint has happened in iPhones too. I seen much less people complain though.

With every electrical item it will be slightly different even tv's hae different tints or the back of might be slightly different.

Definatley some OCD people and as its expensive people do it more. My iPad 2 had some ruff edges but i kept it others would take it back.

I must be lucky!!

In my family I have ATV3, IPOD, ITOUCH, 2 Mac Book Pros, and 2 new IPADS and never had a problem with any of them IE: yellow screens etc.
Updated when Lion came out, no issues with that too.

There are millions of IPADS out there and a few are bound to be bad. These forums make it sound like it is wide spread. If it isn't right just exchange it, or return it and get something else. It gets real old seeing threads like this. I think that is why the majority of people don't suscribe to these forums!!!

Sane exact situation here. My 32GB had a great screen but I wanted more capacity. First 64GB had a dead pixel. Second has a pinkish screen. Thinking about exchanging it again but don't want to end up with something worse. :(

A couple reasons come to mind:
1 - They have a financial interest (e.g., they work for Apple, or they are a seller, etc.)

2 - They need cognitive closure on their purchase decision or to justify their brand loyalty (i.e., they want to reaffirm their purchase decision or brand loyalty is correct). Denying a problem exists, and/or attacking those who report a problem, is a form of cognitive dissonance; i.e., they always make good decisions, and if someone has information contrary to their beliefs, they discard the information as false or irrelevant. People high on the need for cognitive closure generally have an associated trait of aggression. I have learned over the years to avoid those type of people as they tend never to change their mind; even when presented with verifiable facts. That why these argument go on and on.

Very well said, I think this sums it up and I might even reference this post in the future!

You are indeed fortunate not to have the problem a lot of us have with the new iPad screen. I am wondering, however ... If it gets so ”old" seeing people discussing their individual situations, why do you bother reading and responding? Extreme lack of compassion!

I've taken some more pics today, not sure if I should make a Genius bar appointment.

Yes you should. The number of replacements/returns they got would serve as a feedback to their engineer department to make them acknowledge the problem and to rectify it. Your silence and acceptance of flaws will just allow the qc to slide even further. I say return it and get a new one.

I agree - that looks pants. I've got one with a small casing flaw but the screen is the best I've seen - even beside other good ones - I just like the temp - coolish but suits me.

Too much cash for it not to be right.

Yep, you're right. I've made an appointment for tomorrow and see what they say.
