I really like my iPad but if I were to be picky and I do have an eye for detail and quality I would say that the screen is not so white (The white is a bit on the yellowish side).

Why are you so adamant on berating people with legitimate problems? If you got a good screen, that's great. Go live your life. Some of us are just trying to exchange experiences and information. You know, it's kind of the whole reason forums exist.

If you don't believe there are screen issues after seeing all the pictures that have been posted here, then you're either in denial or just hard-headed. Nobody is saying your screen is bad; we're saying that ours are.

Here's mine for reference, yet again: https://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=332541&d=1332828956

Read the Title "There is DEFINITELY a screen issue with the new iPad". I am adamant that Apple has produced the most amazing tablet to date - a stunning screen & tablet. The OP made an all encompassing assertion that is not correct for the vast majority of purchasers. If he (or you) have a problem, go to Apple and swap it or get a refund. Real simple.

Oh? As opposed to sitting idly by why people with problems come claiming "Screengate", "Hotgate", "Tintgate", and conspiracies galore?

Please. I've been here since the original iPhone launch and its the same broken record every time, and every time it turns out to be just a small percentage (with the exception of "Antennagate", but that's another story... :D )

So how about YOU give it a rest? I'm sorry you had problems with your iPad. Take it back to Apple, and the will make it right or refund your money. End of story. :apple:

I never said i have an ipad problem. I like many others are just tired of your posts. You obviously have a bug up your butt about something. All being here from the beginning has done has made you cynical.

It looks like I got lucky!!

Looks great!
How come the top of your Safari browser is black? Mine is grey?

I'm pretty sure that is a screen cap, it doesn't count at all.... Needs to be an actual picture....

Also, looks like he is using atomic browser, it has the black bar, and I think you can change the color to suit your preferences.

I've always wondered why people with out screen issues are the one that is more dismissive, destructive, aggressive and just out right rude. This happens to almost any screen related issue thread from any brand manufacturer. They refuse to believe that such issues exist but they also claim nothing is perfect and even spout about that only the extreme minority have such issues, if this is true then it should be almost impossible for any one person to get a problematic screen more than twice in a row.

It's simple really. They live in a "happy bubble". They don't want anyone or anything to threaten their bubble as it may burst. Oh no! What would they do then? You can even show them pictures of said issues and they still don't want to believe it can be true. It's just easier to pretend nothing is wrong and accuse the potential bubble burster of having OCD....

A couple reasons come to mind:
1 - They have a financial interest (e.g., they work for Apple, or they are a seller, etc.)

2 - They need cognitive closure on their purchase decision or to justify their brand loyalty (i.e., they want to reaffirm their purchase decision or brand loyalty is correct). Denying a problem exists, and/or attacking those who report a problem, is a form of cognitive dissonance; i.e., they always make good decisions, and if someone has information contrary to their beliefs, they discard the information as false or irrelevant. People high on the need for cognitive closure generally have an associated trait of aggression. I have learned over the years to avoid those type of people as they tend never to change their mind; even when presented with verifiable facts. That's why these arguments go on and on.

If you put Safari in private browsing mode it switches the color to black. (Settings>Safari>Private Browsing: On)

My iPad has a red tint coming from the top of the screen (top being where facetime camera is) down about 1/3 of the screen. I have applecare so I am going to wait a while before getting a new one. I've had a yellow screen on an iPhone 4 before and got that replaced and it was like night and day. For anyone who says we are lying about our screens either has a good one or just doesn't have any concept of color and uniformity.

Honestly though why do you care if someone got a bad screen.

Don't forget about this test, either:

That has to be one of the funniest threads I've seen in a while.

Looking forward to your research data supporting "vast majority". You know this how, exactly? Your comment is no different than the very words you're complaining about.

I think I was just plain unlucky for my first three - I bought another one for a family member today from the same store as I got number 3 (duff) and 4 (fine) and it was fine too. Slightly warmer than mine but uniform - which is what counts in my book. And it's a week 5, and the others were weeks 7 and 8.

Perfect case too.

In my initial post I was only trying to convey that there was a screen issue with some iPads - I should probably have said 'There is DEFINITELY a screen issue with some of the new iPads'.

And there is - I and many others on this forum can testify to this - but equally there are many out there that are absolutely fine.

The issue is one of quality control by Apple - and there are all sorts of reasons why it might have slipped - and some of these may be legitimate or unavoidable - but inconsistent quality is a bit of a issue for a company like Apple. Hopefully the numbers of defective screens are low in the grand scheme of things - if there was a widespread issue I would have thought there would be more press coverage by now. The defects I have seen were pretty obvious even to my wife who hates gadgets and tars me with the 'freak' label too!

:D:D:D

Hello All!

This is my first post on the Mac Rumors Forum. I have have owned Apple products for several years now. The iPad 3 / The new iPad is my first tablet. I got it shipped to me on the release date. I have a 64 GB 4G + wifi model. My iPad does not seem to suffer from the screen issues mentioned on this forum. I have noticed that the iPad does get a little warm after extensive use of Netflix but it is bearable. I guess I must be one of lucky ones.

My advice to those who have experienced problems is to return it to Apple and get a replacement. I am on the look out should any problems develop on mine.

Here are the details on my model:

Name: iPad 3
Group1: iPad
Group2: WiFi-4G
Generation: 3
Machine Model: iPad3,2
Model introduced: 2012
Production year: 2012
Production week: 7 (February)
introduced test: GOED
Family name: A1430
Screen size: 9 inch
Screen resolution: 2048x1536 pixels
Colour: Black
Capacity: 64GB
Factory: DN (China, Chengdu - Foxconn)

You are right, and that is why I decided to pick up a 64 GB 3G iPad 2 for 550.

Save myself a couple hundred bucks and my peace of mind.

It's too bad really.

It's fine to be pedantic when you spend a month's worth of wages on a new gadget. :)

I hate to say it but I am seeing a greenish tint in the upper right corner and pinkish in the lower left of my new 16gb 4g. I think it's going back, which is a shame because it is awesome otherwise...but for white web pages and the kindle app, it's just too noticeable to pay $629 for. Bummed that I already got rid of my ipad2.

Au contraire mon ami.

Apple announced that iPad 3 launch was their best ever - many, many millions sold. Have you heard about a significant number of returns? Me neither

I understand your point from a debate school perspective, but in the real world the Apple haters would have a high return rate plastered everywhere - come on, you know that.

The research will be the next quarterly report as returns will have to be backed out of volume numbers.

I don't think so. I work in video and I have been a video and audio freak for a long time and I happen to see and hear lot of things most people are not trained to see or hear. That's just normal for people who do this for a living or a hobby. It's similar to what someone else said here about some people can't or don't care to see the difference between a DVD and a BR.
Thanks for supporting my point:D

I wasn't picky at first. In fact it's the first time I bought an iPad. Received my preordered iPad on day one, powered it on and saw a cluster of dead pixels in the middle of the screen. I wasn't even looking for one. It was that obvious. Decided to send it back and went to my local Apple store to get a new one. Bang, dead pixel in the middle of the screen, again! For this kind of resolution, if you see a dead pixel I think it must be a cluster of a few. That unleashed the beast in me. Call me OCD of whatever you want , I started looking for it on the third one at this point, dust under the screen and a smaller dead pixel at one corner. Felt frustrated and decided to get a refund and wait out.

My point is, the problem is very much real so please stop calling people names. If you don't notice any flaw on yours, good on you. For the amount of money I'm paying (I saved for quite a while for this one since I am a poor PhD student), it's my right to expect one with no flaw or at least one which I can perceive as flawless. Rant ends!

Wow. I had no complaints with the screen on my 32GB I bought on launch day. Exchanged it today for a 64GB because I want the extra space. Lo and behold, the left corner of my screen is purplish pink. Oh well, back it goes.
