What the hell does battery life have to do with the fact that ur just causing trouble and don't even an iphone 4. C'mon, get real.

I guess I am just lucky but I really don't have that bad of a signal/reception loss issue. I got my iPhone yesterday and only if I tightly grip the bottom of my phone with a finger over the gap will my signal fade. Sometimes it is only a 2-3 bar drop and other times it will drop all the way. That of course is on 3G. When my signal is naturally weak, on edge, it will drop a little more but only if my finger is on the gap. I haven't tried with a case on but I bet a case would eliminate the problem completely.

Also, its a week 26 factory 79 phone if that matters...

You don't really have to grip it tightly as you say. Try just touching it. But, wouldn't a phone that worked under every circumstance be better?

Posted wrong picture. But you know that and are now just avoiding the right one

And if I simply cover the mic in the bottom with just ONE finger, no one can hear me. STOP DOING IT.

Ummm....excuse me? You are grasping for straws at this point. Look at every media shot apple provides of the phone being held. That is the same way you lose the reception. It would be one thing if the iPhone just had poor reception. That's not the case. I find it to do fairly well. It's the fact that you cannot hold it IN A NORMAL way with out data ceasing to transmit. That's a problem, and one that should have not made it through testing. If the iPhone just had poor reception, it would be an easier decision to return it. But because of this obvious defect, design flaw.....whatever you want to call it, it should be addressed by apple better than "buy a case" or "your holding it wrong". Sorry but that does not fly and that is the root of why I am upset.

You think I don't know that I can return it? Of course I do, and I may. I'm giving them till next week to come clean or it's gone. I suspect there is a good chunk of people waiting to hear apples final stance and I think that wait is what is frustrating people, especially with such an obvious issue such as this. Do not try to come here and spread your opinions as facts. It's just plain ignorant ;)

People who start threads that are obvious trolls disguised as honorable attempts at saving the forum should be banned for eternity. OP I'm looking at you.

Apple is not saying don't use your left hand. They are saying not to touch the one spot, which is perfectly reasonable to do. I don't touch it naturally when holding with my left hand.

Wow you just don't know when to back down and accept that you were wrong in making a ridiculous thread about your opinions and trying to pass them off as fact (especially when your just plain wrong). Man up and just walk away.

Your statement above is utterly mind blowing to me. Do me a favor and read that over again. I hope for your own well being that you can realize how ridiculous that statement is, especially from someone whom is trying to call out everyone as apple fanboys/followers. Sounds like you need to take a long look in the mirror.

Sorry bro, your done. Nothing you say will dig you out of where you have gotten yourself. Just back down and walk away. It's only getting deeper for you....

On my particular phone, when I have good 3g coverage, I have to grip it pretty tight to see any negative effect but yeah I totally agree, It would be much better if the phone just worked how it should.

I've not had a single reception problem since I added a bumper, and stopped using it as a phone. There are too many other good features to enjoy anyway. Now in it's proper place as my secondary smartphone, I use the features that work and ignore the ones that don't. Besides the saga of the iPhone 4 launch is history in the making. Where else can one be a part of so much controversy & chaos for a measly $199.00 ... :)

1. Every phone with an internal antenna will experience signal loss when held.

2. Every phone is legally required to put their antenna on the bottom of the phone because of laws concerning radiation. Therefore, cupping the bottom of any phone IS NOT the right way to hold it, regardless of how natural it feels.

Those are NOT facts!

Tested #1 on:
SonyEricsson - T18z/T39m x2/T68i/W810i/K790a/K850i
Nokia E71x3, N85
RIM BB 8700/8300/8320/8310/8900/9700 current

Tested #2 on:
ALL the ABOVE except for Nokia E71 which has the radio on the bottom of the smartphone. Your statement is a LIE, a boldface one with nothing to back it up. Oh yeah the 9700 was released last fall so its pretty current.

ALL phones allowed for sale and shipment to the USA/Canada/Europe and just about ANYWHERE in the world have FCC/CRTC or other legal independent testing that does NOT allow 2W of power to be emitted from the radio. WHY? because anything stronger over long periods of time can produce more than 1 degree celcius of temperature raise on skin at 1cm deep. Same goes with bluetooth. Don't believe me research them ... I have.

I'm just quoting what apple said. You're holding it wrong and there is no issue. You're problem is with apple/jobs, not with me. If you're not happy, return the phone.

Cmon, fess up. You don't actually believe all your own BS, do you?

I think most of the complaints in the lawsuit speak towards false advertising and misrepresentation of fact. They aren't suing Apple because their phone misbehaves, they're suing them because their phone misbehaves and they have made a point of officially saying it does not.

Honestly, as tiresome as constantly beating the dead antenna gets I think it would be a bad thing if people stopped voicing their opinion of it. If Apple truly thinks there's nothing wrong with it then we can look forward to more of the same. The only way to make sure that doesn't happen is to get the point across that continued, similar behavior on their part will not be as profitable as correcting their error.

In a similar vein, I appreciate Motorola's and Nokia's latest pokes at Apple on the issue. More and more it seems the only thing that will get a point across to them once they've made up their collective minds is to be publicly and loudly ridiculed on an issue.

Personally I'd be appeased by a free bumper. Hell, I'd even be appeased by the local Apple store having the damn things in stock so I could buy one. I think I just died a little inside.

2. Every phone is legally required to put their antenna on the bottom of the phone because of laws concerning radiation. Therefore, cupping the bottom of any phone IS NOT the right way to hold it, regardless of how natural it feels.

3. Does the iPhone 4 experience MORE signal loss than other phones when held in this manner? According to Anandtech, definitely more than the 3GS and Nexus One. But since there is no set standard on how much signal loss is acceptable and no laws regarding this, it is NOT an issue legally and therefore, Apple is not legally required to fix it (they can if they want to).

4. The phone DOES NOT drop calls regardless of how you hold it if you have a strong enough signal.

5. Does this make the iPhone 4 a poor phone for making calls? If you prefer to hold the phone this way, then yes. However, it is not defective, only poor and companies are legally allowed to release poor products. If you are dissatisfied, please return the phone and get another one.

6. But my store has a restocking fee! Then it is your mistake for buying it on launch day. Most people wouldn't think about buying anything else (phones, computers, TVs, cars, etc.) wouldn't first reading a few reviews but for Apple products, they get sucked in by the mania. That's nobody's fault but your own.
When Apple makes a product with a serious defect... why do you want everyone to defect? Why is it ok for Apple to sell the defective product without dealing with it? Do you want all Apple products to have serious problems? Do you not care if Apple makes decent products? Do you want people to associate Apple with phones that can only make phone calls in strong signal areas?
What is your beef? Are you worried that you bought a product that people are complaining about? Is the product not 'cool' anymore, does that mean you're not 'cool'?

Why do people who do not have a problem get so worked up when folks who do have a problem with the new iPhone 4 talk about it?

If you don't have a problem great. You should be enjoying your fantastic phone. On the other hand, people who are experiencing a problem are complaining, trying to figure out more about the problem and in hopes that Apple will fix it.

FACT: With my iPhone 4 sitting in its dock, I have five bars ALL the time. During a call, if I touch just the "magic" bar on the bottom left corner of the phone, the person I am speaking to cannot hear a single word I say. I can hear them perfectly though without any breaks. If I hold my finger there for 10 seconds, the signal drops from five bars to 0 and the call will drop 100% of the time.

If I run the same scenario during a speed test, data transfer stops INSTANTLY.

Explain THAT.
