That article seems to indicate that wireless charging somehow uses more charge cycles than wired. I don't think that's right, if that's what they're saying. Charge cycles will be the same wireless/wired.

Is it more stress because it's always charging? Maybe. Some rapid wireless chargers do get hot as X users have reported. The slow wireless charging gets warm but not hot.

I don't think users will see a difference doing slow wireless over a 2 year period.

Am I the only one that does this?

I guess my $10 pad is really $19 on Amazon.

More than six months between product announcement and product launch, is that a record for Apple?

That’s how Apple has been the last few years. Look at the Apple Watch, that was announced in September 2014 and launched in April 2015. The HomePod was announced in June 2017 and was suspected to launch in December 2017, but was delayed until February 2018. And now the AirPower that was announced in the fall 2017 and expected to launch spring 2018.

It's just too late, I already got a nice phone stand with wireless, a nice watch stand with wireless (of course), and even a magnetic dash mount that does wireless. At these prices i can live with my AirPod case being wired.

i would love for this mat to be powered off 12VDC (3A@12VDC), off the car supply, either off the built-in and never-used lighter, or off a direct attachment to a fused car connection, with an in-line slow-blow, cartridge 3A fuse.

Either way, official or not, I am planning to rig one on my 1965 English vintage car. And place the Apple AirPower mat on its built-in tray.

I'm sorry to interrupt the mind-numbing 4 page discussion on price, but can someone explain the implications of this? Will it charge much faster, even with iPhone, AirPods and watch charging simultaneously?

"The report, citing industry sources, claims the AirPower will have a maximum charging performance of up to 29 watts, compared to 7.5 watts for single-device wireless charging pads like the Belkin Boost Up and the Mophie Wireless Charging Base for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X."

Once it’s released, there will be more actual test that can be performed to find out the charging rate using all three devices. That said, even charging the iPhone, AirPods and Series 3 Apple Watch simultaneously, consumers want convenience, they don’t care about how fast it charges. They just want the simplicity of the charging mat, rather somebody can justify the price point for the AirPower, is another discussion.

I want this, but do I have to charge at 29W? I charge overnight so speed doesn't matter, I'd rather charge slowly and not kill my battery capacity prematurely due to the extra and unnecessary heat.

The price can’t really be $199, can it? I mean...really?

As much as I love the idea of having a charging pad like this on my bedside table where I can just drop all my devices on to, there’s no way I’d pay $200 for it. $99 at most and that’s pushing it. $79 would be a sweet spot where I’d get a few to scatter around the house.

Charging mats are not 10 dollars, maybe from crappy Chinese outlets (but you shouldn't want those in your home), from brands like Belkin/RavPower/Anker it's more like 30 to 60 dollars.

So a triple pad (which this basically is) with new technology is never gonna be 50 dollars (be a bit realistic dude, for 50 dollars the whole world would buy it, because it would be incredibly cheap).

100-150 dollars would be a fair price, so knowing Apple it's gonna be 250, maybe 200 if they're feeling generous.

Also, most of the 3rd party ones don't support charging for the Apple Watch, or the ability to simultaneously charge multiple units.

I’ve been using two $10-$15 charging mats since I got my iPhone X on launch day. They work great.

Which one do you have? Every single one I’ve seen is soooooo darn ugly. Something as prominent as a charging pad should look nice and fit your home’s design. But all we got are these geeky plastic pucks that either look like dollar store coasters or over designed geeky devices trying to score design points (and failing) by adding LEDs. Designing a nice charging pad shouldn’t be this hard.

Apple Special Event, March 27, 2018:
  • AirPower
  • AirPod charging case
  • New Apple Watch Bands (maybe metal bands that work better at snapping apart with AirPower?)
  • iPhone SE 2
  • New iPad 9.7" (iPad Mini discontinued)
  • iPhone 8 or X in a deep blue
  • AirPlay 2/stereo HomePod talk/demo?
  • Retina MacBook Air
That would probably be enough to justify a small event at Steve Jobs Theater.

If they're thinking their WWDC keynote will be packed, they could unveil their TV service early since Eddy Cue was just talking about it the other day, to launch "later this year." But that seems like more of a September event thing?

In my wildest dreams I hope they give a sneak preview of the modular Mac Pro and new 5K Thunderbolt Display, available this summer (probably to launch with more details at WWDC). But realistically we probably won't hear a peep about it until then at the earliest.

i have my wireless charger for Iphone X, its about $17 and its work perfectly fine:cool:
[doublepost=1520965444][/doublepost]good question

At $200?> NO!

At $149?> NO!

At $99?> Maybe!

At $79?> Sure!

Reality Check. The apple watch magnetic charging dock is already $79 and all it is, is a oval disk that contains the standard apple watch charging puck.

What apple is claiming is that a charging pad can charge multiple items at once AND claimed to be better and or faster than all other charging standards on the market.

Why wont they charge $200 for it?

Yes!

I have an X and an AW and there is no way I'd pay $200 for a charging pad.. I am sure some will but my guess is there won't be many buyers at that price.

I have the X, S3-LTE, And airpods. So Ill be getting the new case and Air power pad same time. Rock ON!!!!;););)
