Launch? It's not going anywhere for $200. I'd be embarrassed to own one at that price. I mean you can buy a 2017 iPad for $80 more. A $200 charging mat isn't too far off a gold plated toilet seat.

It’s going to be at least $200, maybe more. It’s a 29w charging mat from Apple!

IMO 29w is impressive

I'd pay $200 for a 29w wireless charging mat if it's 29w to a single device. Hell I'd even consider buying two. I just hope it's not a lame 10w per device for a total of 29w for 3 devices at the same time.

Reality Check. The apple watch magnetic charging dock is already $79 and all it is, is a oval disk that contains the standard apple watch charging puck.

What apple is claiming is that a charging pad can charge multiple items at once AND claimed to be better and or faster than all other charging standards on the market.

Why wont they charge $200 for it?

And who said I'd pay $80 for AW wireless charger? Don't know who are are reality checking but it can't be me....

Wow ... $400 for two wireless chargers. Wish I had that type of money floating around. :)

I wonder as well about the 29w to a single device. For the watch and airpods I imagine it won't matter much, but the phone, sure.

Same, 29w to a single device is a game changer (wireless charging wise). No point IMO to get it if it’s 5-10w per device, especially when you factor in the added cost of new AirPods case.

Hopefully apple can deliver.

Apple's new AirPower inductive charging mat will be released by the end of March, according to Taiwanese website DigiTimes.

The report, citing industry sources, claims the AirPower will have a maximum charging performance of up to 29 watts, compared to 7.5 watts for single-device wireless charging pads like the Belkin Boost Up and the Mophie Wireless Charging Base for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Apple said the AirPower will be released in 2018, but it hasn't provided an exact release date or pricing. Apple blogs Mac Otakara and The Apple Post also reported that the charging mat will be released in March, which is a common month for Apple to introduce new products, including a new 9.7-inch iPad last year.

AirPower is an oval-shaped accessory that can inductively charge multiple Apple devices at once, including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and Apple Watch Series 3 models. It will also be able to charge AirPods when they are placed in a new inductive charging case set to launch alongside AirPower.

The mat's ability to charge multiple devices will be achieved with a propriety technology developed by Apple. Apple said it will work to have its technology become part of the universal Qi standard supported by the latest iPhones.

It's still unclear if Apple will announce the AirPower's availability at a March event alongside other new products, via press release, or quietly with an update to its online store. If there is an event planned, Apple will likely send invitations to the media by Thursday at the absolute latest.

As an Apple fan, a charging mat really doesn’t ‘excite’ me. I see the convenience without using a wire. But I personally like to use my iPhone while charging. I just don’t need to have my iPhone stationary on a mat to charge. It’s just not a product specifically for me at this alleged price point.

Me too I like to use my phone while charging too. I know you have the iPhone (I think it can work for the iPhone too) but I use my Samsung wireless fast charging dock and you can use as a stand and use it. It was only like around $35 for the previous generation. Works great! I think you can use it for the iPhone as well. I also have the pad version (lays flat) at work which I just lay my phone there so I can use the headphone jack to listen to music. It's super convenient! I wish I switched over earlier for this feature.

Apple is testing high prices with poor results, no way I’m buying this for $200.

9 months after announcement lol!

I really think if the AirPower could have launched before Christmas alongside the iPhone X, it would have made a significant impact for sales, as that would have been the prime time for spending for consumers during that time frame.

Cant wait for this matte. And Ill keep saying it: They HAVE to give us a wireless Apple Pencil! Can't wait to be able to charge the airpods the same way as the phone. Right now it's just ridiculous haha.
About the watch that's nice, but I couldnt care less about that, as it EASILY lasts through all my days and it's perfectly fine to charge it at the nightstand.

Lame, I agree with apple’s original pr spin when they were against charging mats.

Wish they had some distance, even if they had 3 feet. Lots of companies are working on it like oasis cota

You really think people who have a iPhone X and a new Apple watch care about money or the difference between 100 and 200 dollars?
I care and I have an 8 plus, air pods and a Series 3.

I wouldn't spend $200 on this because the value isn't there. I already have chargers everywhere. I need to drop $200 to line everything up on my nightstand?

C'mon.

The price can’t really be $199, can it? I mean...really?

I’m sure it will be. Look at what they charge for AirPods. Other charging pads cost more than $100 so I can see Apple charging easily charging $199 and I think people would be nuts to pay it.

I do think they care. Just because someone has an iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 3 doesn’t mean they’re willing to spend $200 on a charging mat. Consumers are not going to find that price point attractive no matter how you spin this. Are there those who will purchase this? Yes. But there are other alternatives to charge your iPhone X for cheaper on the market if someone wanted it.
Apple doesn't care about consumer. Apple cares about heir fans. And they will buy it even if it is 200$ and will label all of you poor if you are buying a 50$ ones!

I have a 5 dollar delivered mat from eBay for my work s7, it works a dream. Fast, looks cool. Anyone who justifies 3 figure prices is insane!!!!

Apple reminds me of the creepy Lawyer in Jurrasic park saying "...And we can charge anything we want: 2,000 a day, 10,000 a day. And people will pay it.". Ahead of his time, if he wasn't eaten by a T-Rex he would have fitted in quite well with modern Apple.

At $200?> NO!

At $149?> NO!

At $99?> Maybe!

At $79?> Sure!

Presuming you already have an overpriced iPhone, an overpriced Apple Watch, and overpriced AirPods, the possible $50-$100 premium for this product would be your red line?
