So is the preorder only available for a few hours? I was thinking it went on from tomorrow until the tenth?

The pre-order will last until supplies run out, AFAIK. What I was saying is that I don't expect it to last very long, judging by the incredible demand for the phone.

Limited quantity designated for pre-order. Once they hit that # it's over until the 10th and public amounts are made available.

Only so many units available to Verizon directly. Part go to retail. Part go to "release web sales" and phone sales. Then part to pre-order.

Apple also has their stock of it, too, for apple stores and apple.com

Another question: Does anyone have any experience trying to ship a Verizon order to an address other than the billing address on the account? My brother lives out of state and is on our family plan. He will be pre-ordering separately from me said:
Yes. I was told this was perfectly acceptable by numerous reps. I did this myself today and the rep said I was good to go.

I just tried to and it let me, but wanted me to actually order a phone today. When I left that page my upgrade reverted back to the line I don't want it on.

hmmm I didn't log back in after I "transferred" the upgrade to the my number so it might just revert back like stated....sorry if I misled anybody. In any case, like tac22 suggested, worst case scenario buy the phone on that line and when you get the phone transfer it to your line. This is the route I will be taking as well I guess if I cant transfer the upgrade to my line tomorrow.

Why wouldn't they let you use transfer the upgrade to another number tomorrow? That's just mean lol.

Oh yeah, lmao. :eek::D

Edit: Isn't it 6AM now where you live? Shouldn't you be sleeping? lol.

Can't, way too excited. but yea definitely hope this preorder goes smooth. i'm trying to stay positive and optimistic by thinking that if we are ordering right when everything starts up, we should definitely be able to get one. i have a good feeling this should be the case. YAY!

Actually, my rep told me quite the opposite. For normal orders, yes you can specify a different shipping address. But for the iPhone orders, they will be using a completely different system, and you can only have it shipped to the billing address on the account. However, if you have manager access, you can just change the address beforehand, then do your pre-order, and change the address back later. That's what I did... changed it to mine, so I can order, then I'll change it back to my dad's.

Also, since it's a different system, the only payment methods accepted will be credit cards and gift cards. The bill-to-account option will not be available for the pre-orders.

I was told by a phone CSR last night (who said she confirmed it with her manager) that ESN swapping would NOT be available immediately post-launch for the iPhone. She said they refer to this as the "buddy upgrade," even when it happens after the phone is activated on an eligible line and then ESN-swapped over to a different phone number on your account. She said this ability MIGHT be available down the road. She said it had to do with the "special Apple chip" in the phone.

This is in direct conflict to many other phone CSRs who confirmed that I WOULD be able to ESN-swap after activating the iPhone.

I'm not 100% believing the story, but I'm prepared now to have to start giving out a different phone number for a while...

Well, these two things concern me a little... I was counting on both of these being possible, so I hope that the reps you spoke to had no clue what they were talking about.

I hope she doesn't know what she is talking about also because I am going to upgrade a line for the iphone, then when I get it, switch numbers. I really don't want to carry around two phones lol, and I don't want to have a new number to give out either. The rep I spoke to said you can switch so who knows? I asked when I got the iphone, do I call Verizon before or after I activate the phone through itunes, he said either way it doesn't matter.

I was told there would be no problems using another upgrade to purchase the phone on my line

Good point!

I'm hoping the servers don't overload i'm sure everyone will be clicking the order button once midnight pacific time rolls around tonight :)

I just spoke to VZ CS Rep and she said I would be able to order the Iphone on my daughters upgrade and then switch ESN's after the Iphone had been activated using her number for at least 2 minutes. She said this was called an alternate upgrade and would be allowed. I wouldn't know why you couldn't do this since it is allowed for any other upgrade.

I am using someone elses upgrade but transfered the upgrade to my line, so do I need to activate the phone on the original line or can I just activate it for the line it was intended to be used on?

That's good news - so it's just the one outlier that I spoke to last night with the (probably) bad information. How hard is it to give your CSRs the correct information so they can pass it out correctly and consistently. Things like ESN-swaps, paying full retail, adding a line, when will orders ship... these are not terribly odd or difficult concepts.

It is funny how excited we are to pre-order. It may just be a pre-order but it assures it is coming within a week.
