This is simply awful. I really feel bad for you guys. I mean, not having a phone a couple weeks before others? Oh, my, the outrage. What a heathenish company Apple can be to loyal, long-time customers. A true disaster for worldly citizens of a first-world country. :(

Apple shall get many strongly-worded letters giving them an earful!

So I know I'm not alone. I wrestled with getting the jet or matte black iPhone 7+ and since I was in quickly I decided to pre order the jet black. I got a pre forder confirmation then went to sleep. Then I go to checkout this morning and it says some dumb **** about my carrier (Sprint) wants me to make a deposit to get the phone in store. Ok, take whatever you need but the problem is I can't deliver and the in store pickup option says the phone isn't available in any stores and won't let me select a location to pickup. So why not just say sold out? And why even send a pre order email saying your phone is reserved anyways if I'm not guaranteed one? I checked out with an iPhone 7 matte black and I know my Sprint account is in perfect standing. So, I place a pre order for an iPhone 7+ matte black and look forward to a long 3-4 weeks for it to deliver (when I will probably be out of town)!

So true, and it's like yelling at a cable company or something. They hold all the leverage and could give two ***** about loyal customers because we will just keep buying. I just don't like seeing an email that says one thing and turns out to not be the truth.

I actually thought this year was pretty easy. That being said, I won't get my 7+ Jet Black on launch, but I quickly realized very few would and that September 26 - October 3 isn't so bad.

With every other preorder in previous years, if you stayed up until 12:01 and ordered within 5-8 minutes, you were guaranteed to get your toy on launch day. This year, it was a total disaster.

Mad beyond belief.

What preorders were you in on? This has been the standard for years now. They launch the product and have NONE in the pipeline. IP7 Jet Black out to November already. Maybe you did not pre-order Apple Watch 1? That was a huge blow out. Took months to get a Space Gray and a few more months to get a SS Black.

Forgot all about that. Yes, that was the worst launch. I had to wait like 2 months for my Space Gray.

I accessed the Apple Store App at 1:06(MST) and had my email confirmation by 1:09 for a iPhone 7 JB 128GB T-Mobile model. Earlier in the day, I inputted my shipping address and credit card information so all I had to do when the store came up was just a few taps on the iPhone.

It was fairly easy for me. Got in using the app @ 12.04, managed to get a 7 JB 128 on ATT with Sept 16 delivery. I wasn't interested in the +, but I did check and it showed later ship dates.

I agree with other posters that the Watch Gen 1 preorder was a fiasco. And I'm sure the 2017 iPhone preorder will be an absolute s***show.

Lovin' the SE I bought earlier this year :p but feeling empathy for those pre-ordering. Next year my turn in the barrel if I decide to go for an 8 or an updated SE if they mean to bring one.

I don't miss the pre-dawn ritual of pre-ordering, I have to say. Even when it goes okay it's kind of nerve wracking. When I do it, I like bringing a fully paid phone (that I pre-order at Apple online) to a month to month existing arrangement w/ ATT, still lets me have that $15 discount in case I might go for their Next plan on an upgrade sometime.

So for now... just saving up for that next iPhone buy when the time comes to plunk down the dough. Meanwhile the 7 features seem really great, hope you all enjoy these offerings and I'll look forward to next iteration.

Sorry but there will be no 8 next year, only a 7s. :D

i was just talking about 2014... 2014-iphone6 right? i remember when i was finally get into the page, most models are pushed to november/december.
Yup. 6 and 6+. I was trying to get the 6+ so that was even harder. I don't even mind not having it on release day. Just didn't want to have to wait 1-2 months before I get it. Funnily enough, I couldn't stand the 6+ and after 2 months, I replaced it with the 6. Pre-ordering would've been so much easier if I had just gone with the 6. Product page for the 6 wasn't glitching as much as the 6+. I recall the 6+ was just showing up as unavailable and it took quite a bit of refreshes before I can order/was put in the waitlist.

Should have gotten another color. And one you can quickly find in a darken room. Otherwise, it's "Fade to Black".

You're right, I'm getting ahead of Apple! Well so maybe I'm saving up for a 7s Plus, or who knows if they will call the 7s an iPhone X. That might satisfy those who think the 10th-anniversary iPhone should have a special name... and since Apple took the X out of Sierra they must have a few million X hanging around in the shop. ;)

This was nothing compared to the 6/6+ launch. No one had the 6+, the order page went live at like :15, and people were locked out for hours.

And honestly, you're crazy if you order through the carrier page. They have no idea what they are doing.

apple.com was NOT Up until at least until 1:05am MST - same with AT&T. AT&Ts site was horrible. I am just going to wait until next month to order an iPhone 7 plus, since i wanted it in time for our trip to the Big Island in mid October. since i won't have it anyways, ill just wait.

HOWEVER i was able to order a 7 plus in Rose color for my wife, which she should have in time. For the time being, i will still be happy with my Note 5 that i still would have to pay off $70 to be able to upgrade. I wait until we get back from the Hawaii, i don't have to pay anything :)

Bull.
This year is better than last year, I can actually get in to the store. Can't do this last year.

It wasn't too bad. I got in about 8.04 on the app. It was confusing as last year we could do a reservation for in store pick up. My plan was to do one reservation and one for delivery as I wasn't sure if I'd be available to stay at home on Friday for delivery but would know over the weekend. I would then cancel the one I don't need. The reservation system this year has changed. It's either pay and then collect in store or reserve for the upgrade programme. I wanted to buy the phone outright so the upgrade programme is no good. So around 08.04 I ordered s rose gold 128GB 7 plus for in store pick up on the 16th. Then by 08.15 I was able to reserve another Rose gold 7 plus 128GB for delivery on the 16th. Then I got confused about my first order as I realised it was for in store pick up not reservation. So I then reserved a rose gold 128GB 7 plus for the 16th. So in the space of 30 minutes I was able to reserve 3 of the model that I wanted for the 16th. I've cancelled the in store ones and I'm going to go with delivery on the 16th.

The Apple Watch pre-order was pretty easy. I did my pre-order at 08.24 and was given a launch day delivery date which did arrive on launch day. I also pre-ordered the 6S plus whilst on holiday last year and despite being 2 hours late I still managed to snag a 128GB iPhone 6S plus reservation for launch day. I had to settle for silver instead of gold but I didn't mind. I think I'm lucky with my colour preferences because I seem to want the colour which is not the most sought after. I knew the black would be constrained this year but I didn't want it anyway.

The website was a waste of time as I didn't get into it until 08.30 but the app was pretty solid.

I hit snooze a couple of times and didn't wake up until 3:07 AM EDT. I thought for sure I was hosed. I tried to order the 256 GB Jet Black 7 Plus, but shipping dates had already slipped to October. I ended up getting a 256 GB black 7 Plus for delivery on 9/16. I hate fingerprints; it probably worked out for the best.

The thing is people had different experiences depending on the model they wanted. I for instance wanted a jetblack/matte black 128gb 7+ under the IUP and i went through literally every store on the site for the UK and every single one was marked as sold out. However almost every single one had Rose/Gold of the same model. I've been buying iPhones since 2007 and have always been able to get a launch day window....till now

My only regret was not taking a Rose/Gold and try for a swap for black next friday.

Yes I think the black would have been a nightmare. The rose gold was probably the easiest to get this year. Ironically it was probably the hardest to get last year and I wasn't interested at all because I didn't like the way it looked in pictures. You also have 14 days after you get the phone to try and do an exchange in store. Last year I got silver and in my 14 exchange period I made two reservations for the gold 6S plus in the same capacity, however unfortunatley I was suffering from bad morning sickness/fatigue and couldn't get down to the store.

This was the smoothest one for me. I set my alarm for 3:15 (NY) and used the Apple Store app when I woke up. It went right through, 9/16 delivery. Took less than 5 minutes.

They boned the people already on the upgrade plan though. Hoping they fix that for next year since I just signed up.

Very easy preorder for me. Got in as soon as the Apple Store app went live. Got my black matte phone. Att went super smooth and I was done in 3 mins top. This was even signing up for att next program. Only downfall is my ship date on my 7+ is 9/27 - 9/29. Confirmation email received at 3:11 AM EST.
