I live in Europe where there is not an American-style culture of returning things on a whim.

I also don’t want to cost a retailer thousands of euros by returning five phones until I get a display I like, even if they allowed me. Assh*le move.

So my question: is there another way to buy an iPhone with a good screen?

Somewhere where you can see the phones in person and pick one that’s already out of the box?

Do Apple Stores sell demo units? I’d obviously not want most demos, but sometimes I see a clean one.
This thread isn't about America vs. the world or returning on a whim. The people who order 3 phones in different colors or "reviewers" who have no intent to keep the phones, those people are the problem. They are in Europe too.

People have a right to be satisfied with their $1200 phones and Apple's QC is not good. As an example, this year I've owned the 16PM, OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Samsung S25U, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Samsung Fold 7. All of them but one were perfect on the first try. One guess as to which phone had a trash display. The Fold 7 has an outer screen and massive 8" internal screen and viewing angles + uniformity are perfect.

And before I get judged, I did not return any of these phones except for the Pixel and the original trash 16PM.

The only way you can buy a phone and test the screen is to go the open box or pre-owned route. Maybe a 3rd party retailer will have open box units you can buy.

Its just as apparent, in landscape mode on the GH3, and turns half the screen greenish with color fade while watching videos - even worse viewing angle issues watching videos that way.

who cares what people think. I would rather us peasants are happy with our overpriced devices than how this kind of behavior affects the bottom line of these mega corporations lol

The thing is, you can only exchange easily on the US, and people are exchanging perfect displays because they think one is better than the other.

The idea behind the exchange is getting hid of defective phones only, so they can recycle the parts.

One is better than the others, if you don't like to seen the screen tint change at view angle on half the screen.

I do agree people freak out a bit too much sometimes about little things, scratchgate being a good example, the this screen tint sure annoys me. I can't remember experiencing this on my 16 pro max, 15 pro mas, or mini before that.

This will be true to every other part, some phones have X storage manufacturer, some have Y, they will not be the same ever, same for battery and so on. In the end there is an acceptable level. If you hunt for differences, you will eventually find the "better" one, sure, but that don't mean the other is actually bad or defective.

I had a 15pro, with GVC, it shifted hard, but it was uniform, I used the phone for 2 years, eventually you get used to it.

12PM G9N vs 17PM GVC

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows with Sammy.

iPhone 12 series had one of the worst OLED panels in OLED iPhones overall. Most of them were piss yellow with atrocious green off-axis tinting. People were compiling A LOT about them.
I personally hated my iPhone 12 Pro only because of that screen.
I went from amazing OLED panel in my iPhone X with perfect whites to piss yellow iPhone 12 Pro. Then I upgraded to iPhone 13 Pro Max (I still use it) with G9P panel and it was night and day difference to me back then.

I got good one!!!!
256GB Light Gold Air at Apple Store Grand Central!
Setting it up but zero color shift. Nice and warm color temperature. At last my hunt is done.

Once I get home I’ll check the serial number and post here. Don’t give up. Keep trying!

Get the Pro. Didn’t see anyone report a bad screen so far
I’m tempted.

But I really wanted the regular iPhone 17 (lighter, cheaper, more elegant design IMO, also has ProMotion now, and I don’t have much use for a tele camera with a tiny sensor).

I already bought one iPhone 17 and returned it because the display had way worse viewing angles than my 4-year-old iPhone 13 mini.

I wear glasses or contacts for shortsightedness and sometimes use my phone without them – which means holding it closer to my face. That exaggerates the difference in viewing angles from top to bottom of the screen.

The iPhone 17 I got was intolerable when used like this.

For someone who holds it at a normal distance it might have been fine.

Now you have to babysit it, screen protector is a must now. :p

First thing I did at the Apple Store lol. Restoring from iCloud now. So happy this hunt is over, I told myself that today was my last attempt and voila I lucked out. And with the color I wanted. Best case scenario.
dont check the model dude! If youre happy just live in peace. If you see you got the "worst" screen youll start seeing ghosts

Im going to have to try out an air for a couple weeks until they have 17 pro max in stock. I don't have a choice. I'm exchanging my greengate 17 pro max.

I’m a long time member of the yellow tint club, but i got very lucky with great panels on my 13 pro, 14 pro and 15 pro.

Unfortunately my 17 pro has a yellow tint and shifts to green immediately and noticeably as soon as its off axis.

Its horrible to be back

Decided to just try once to see if I can get a 17PM with a better screen. Sorry for the blurry image, the best my USB camera can do but my point was to show off viewing angle. Any guess on which panel type is which??
