Nope. Haven’t ever exchanged an iPhone actually and been using them since the 4S.

The sole reason I didn’t purchase an Air this year was because the moment I picked it up I started noticing this green off axis color shift that was very pronounced. You can’t say no one because I did almost immediately upon going hands on with the device.

Jony Ive hand crafted the green off axis color shift pronouncement as an expression of bold design before his resignation.

So whenever you looked for a new phone, you always start tilting the display in some weird way you don't look at it during use? Or did you start doing that after reading a forum post? Hence, having it pointed out to you...

The whole "LG green tint" is basically a nothing burger, it doesn't impact the way I actually use the phone.

The notion that LG panels are all inferior to Samsung because they have off-axis color shifting is total nonsense. You are probably in a very small minority of OLED phone owners if you have absolutely no off-axis tint of any color. To expect a completely perfect white OLED screen from any kind of angle, regardless of whether that's even a normal or useful way to hold your phone, that's just being extremely nitpicky and borderline OCD.
It doesn’t impact the way you use the phone, that’s great. It does impact how others use the phone. I don’t think many of the people here are stating that LG panels are all inferior to Samsung.

I think everyone expects and tolerates some off axis shift. It’s the severe shift and multicolored hues at an angle that people have a problem with. People have every right to return the phone until they get an acceptable one. If Apple allows the return / exchange who are you or any of us to judge?

It happened when I adjusted my grip on the Air with one hand on launch day at the store.

The OP of this thread clearly takes that position. Plenty of others too.

Also, I never said I'm against people returning or exchanging a device they find subpar. I don't care what other people do with their phone. But to characterize the Samsung manufactured displays as superior is where I have a problem, especially when it's on the basis of "I manipulated my phone in a weird way that I can't even normally use the phone in, and the picture looks substandard that way".

I do feel bad for people who got a device with bad tinting/uniformity when held straight on or with the top of the device tilted away from you, or even to the side, ie normal use. I would definitely get an exchange if my panel had such an issue. But tilting the top of the phone towards you? Give me a break. At that point you're just looking for a reason to be unhappy with the device.

So you think looking at your phone tilted sideways is normal but with the top of the device tilted toward you is not?

Having the top tilted away is probably most common, but as another user said, even when adjusting the phone being held in one hand, it is just as likely to tilt to the side as it is to have the top tilted closer.

I found this forum because I noticed the green tint almost immediately and wanted to see if others did also, not the other way around where I read about it here and went flipping my phone into weird angles to see if I have the issue.

Tbh I can’t see a scenario where tilting the top of the phone forwards is normal use. And I have a GVC panel that tints green when the top is tilted forward.

Even sitting reclined, holding the phone with both hands below head level and typing on the keyboard, you can easily get into a situation where the top is closer to you and the bottom is farther away, even though the phone is almost vertical. You’re still looking at the phone from the top at an angle, and it doesn’t take a huge angle to shift green.

You may not notice the green shift often in your use, but you noticed it. ;)

Tilting the top forward is a way to reproduce the issue, but my point is that you do notice it when handling the phone in ways that are not exaggerated.

I played the panel warranty with the air and I did not win. My fiance, myself, and my second device all have GVC screens. And while I didn’t get a Samsung panel, I will say I am absolutely shocked at the variance between all these GVCs.

One of them has significantly better viewing angles, with the green tint being barely noticeable. The other two had tolerable green tints but it was definitely not as good as the latest. Which is interesting is the India-made one feels better made and has the better screen…interesting…

Yes I have OCD, and yes these variances bothers me. lol

Edit: Photos aren’t doing justice, there is actually a massive visible difference between all these but they all kind of appear bad in the photos.

That's crazy. My GH3 pro max starts shifts green moving the top a half inch towards me. It's awful. The 16PM that I have also has the GH3 and doesn't shift near as bad. I plan to play the lotto, but no store near me has one. I'll see if I can get lucky over the weekend or perhaps return it and wait a month.

Depending where about the screen is cut from the wafer will alter its characteristics. Close to centre will be even, as the larger number come from off-centre there will inevitably be more uneven units regardless of manufacturer.

Photolithography screen manufacture technique has always caused these issues with OLED panels.

Sometimes you get lucky, most times you don’t.

Hi everyone. I tried to stay away from overanalyzing my screen this year. But here I am. Below I have:

• First picture (Upside down):
- (L) Silver iPhone 17PM 512GB - GVC
- (R) White iPhone 16PM 256GB - G9P

• Second picture:
- (L) White iPhone 16PM 256GB - G9P
- (R) Silver iPhone 17PM 512GB - GVC

I tried different angles and the 17PM only has the tint on an angle. I’ve had Samsung panels for the past two years and maybe I’ve been comparing to my 16PM too much but things seem a tad bit softer on the GVC. I’m torn on returning it but if I end up with another LG, I’d be disappointed.
G9P looks better.

Great that your screen looks good! 😁

For many of us, for whatever reason, it is serious. Let’s try to share our views as opinions, and not present them as the norm.

For you it’s not that serious, and that’s totally fine! 👍

This is why people that talk about 'lotteries' irritate those that actually understand business.

Apple sets product specs. a manufacturer hits those, or it doesnt. Apple is not a fly by night company, they set specs to be rather tight. Of course, the tighter the specs the more expensive the manufacturing is so that cost is passed on to you and me. The consumer. So regardless of manufacturer, the screen meets specs. The screen to screen variation form any manufacturer is likely larger than Manufacturer to Manufacturer, so all you are collecting is anecdotal data with no meaningful way to analyze it properly.

but people will become convinced in the lottery, and keep buying devices until they get 'the one.' We have seen people talk about returning devices numbering in the teens. Not one or two, but a lot more. I am not talking about the people trying something out, I am talking about people chasing unicorns. And again, that drives up costs for the rest of us.

There is no 'one.' Apple makes devices that meet spec. They are all good. None are perfect.

even if I knew nothing about the different display types the grain I got on the air is unmissable in low light

I think this thread seems to show the opposite in this case. This year, with these models, there does seems to be a more obvious and pronounced variation from manufacturer to manufacturer rather than from any random screen to any other random screen. Clearly, we're seeing a predominance of green off-axis shift in LG panels, and not seeing that in the Samsung panels.

So people aren't hunting for some unicorn panel regardless of whether it's from LG or Samsung, they just want a Samsung panel because we're seeing those don't have the high incidence (ie. most) of green shift.

decided to give it one last go around and switched from blue to silver.

17 Pro Max 512GB Silver - G9N. I can actually look at the screen and use it. No PWM setting enabled, but enabling it does make a noticeable difference when dimmed.

Color wise, it looks good. Wish I could have gotten the blue iPhone as it is really nice, but not letting go of this one.

Recap:
3 x 17 Pro Max 512GB Blue - all GH3 and all caused instant irritation with PWM. All 3 returned.

1 x 17 Pro Max 512GB Silver - G9N - no sensitivity, screen looks great. Keeping this one for the next 4 years hopefully.

Located in West Coast/Pacific Region.

I saw that Apple Store had 512 GB iPhone 17 pro max DB in stock so I figured I just snag it, I ordered it online for in-store pick up.This one is GH3 but so far everything is perfect, whites are whites. My other one that is 17 pro max 256 GB DB that has GVC is good but yes I do notice very slight green tint when tilting (camera) towards you.

However, it doesn't really bug me, I needed more space and I think 512 GB is the sweet spot.

Update: I guess I won the lottery. Pressed my luck and got a G9Q now :D with no tinting at all.

The apple store I visited (wayne, nj) clearly had all LG’s on display with a noticeable tint when titling but their stock was lucky.

17 GVC to 17 G9P still have green tint (less noticeable than GVC) but Samsung still has it
