The iPhone wins hands downs in software. The Android OS is really weird to get used to. I am okay with it because I don't mind learning about it. I wouldn't recommend it to my partner who uses his iPhone 6S plus every day for work. He is okay with computers and is in the IT field but he wouldn't want to switch something reliable just because something else cooler is out at the moment.

The syncing on this thing with a Mac is a pretty horrible experience. So hands down there is not even a doubt for ease of use the iPhone wins. Tinkering with this phone reminds me a bit of back in the day messing around with Windows was. It will do everything you want eventually but everything is a work around.

The hardware is great but you are making a definite trade off on the software side. Anyway this discussion is actually about if iPhones are over priced. My latest thoughts are that they are but for somebody like my partner who relies on them to make money it is acceptable.

By that standard the S7E is also over priced when so many phones can do Facebook and have an internet browser on them. One of the two is just a bit more over priced. In this case you can't have your cake and eat it too, Throw IOS in this device you have a winner. This design on an iPhone with IOS would justify the price but alas the world is a cruel place.

First world problems..

Yep. If iPhones are overpriced how could Apple have 10 record breaking quarters. Surely the majority would have noticed this? Or maybe a minority seem to speak for the majority?

I don't think the iPhone is expensive at all. It's been good to me since the first 3G model, now It does everything business wise and my personal needs. Couldn't ask for more. 128GB is nice too, was tired of 64GB models on the 5s.

I think the iPhone is overpriced. Apple's margins are gigantic and the iPhone lags behind often (especially storage and ram) to support small margin increases. In Australia, iPhones are more expensive than most iPads and start to be on par with Mac pricing (Especially in the + model) which is crazy.

How much in import tax in AUS?

If people will buy it, it's not overpriced. Market price.

Even when you factor in our GST + the exchange rate, we pay a premium for Apple products. It has always been that way.

Plenty of people buy overpriced things, doesn't mean they're not overpriced.

Vote with your wallet. If Coca Cola can sell it's syrup and soda at a premium above the competition, people will always purchase value.

But didn't change the minds of the customers who contributed to apples' $40b.

This isn't even about who decided to pay the price. Plenty of people contribute to huge profits from other companies who also sell overpriced products. Doesn't have anything to do with the iPhone being overpriced or not.

Apple is free to charge at a point where their customers purchase the device. If price is the issue, there are other choices. It's not that difficult. Really.

In a demand/supply economy, that's all that matters. If you don't want to purchase it, you are not forced to do so. However I do.

None of that changes the status of the iPhone as being overpriced or not. People buy overpriced things.. Doesn't make them any less underpriced.

$1000 for an iPhone 6+ with a measly 1GB of ram and 1GB of storage is beyond a joke overpriced.

Overpriced is opinionated really. For some, less for others. Doesn't change much of reality.

There is reality in charging HUGE margins on outdated specifications, and that is called overpricing. Apple's no stranger to it.
If the customer is willing to pay for what they perceive as "added value" in many ecosystems of the Apple world, that's all that matters. You don't have to buy it. Anything can be considered overpriced. Why is storebrand product less expensive than the brand name? I'll let you figure that out.

Nowadays, I'd never say the iPhone has better hardware than the top 5 or so OEMs. Samsung gives us beautiful water and dust resistant designs. HTC does all-metal better. Huawei and One Plus do outstanding jobs on the cheap.

I stay with Apple for: everyone gets updates at the same time, being able to go to Apple Store for replacements, and (this is huge for gamers) new games almost always appear on the App Store first.

So, what matters to me is software, updates, and customer service.

Also, I love the "gimmicks"; 3D Touch is enormously fun to use.

Apple needs to offer 2 hour trial periods, though.

Agreed lol but are you implying 2 hour trials to applications or the phone? I assume the applications. Couldn't imagine on the phone lol.

This isn't about me not wanting to buy it or not, It is my opinion that its an overpriced piece of hardware, and that is probably the opinion of the majority of smartphone customers.

Of course the iPhone is overpriced. Pretty much all smartphones are. And tablets.

The Apple documentary on working conditions stated the iPhone costs $100 to make. You pony up the cash to feed a massive company. Not slating apple as they are all at it.

Simplify? Look at your laptops in the mid range with i5 processors, a very high definition screen, ports, a keyboard, trackpad and a FULL operating system. That measly thing in your pocket costs MORE.

Don't get me started on iPad.

Wake up people. Pay your money and take your choice. I am a hypocrite as i have these things but i'm well aware of the greed.

Except for the customers that contributed to apples record profits and most valuable company, you are correct.

Sure costs 100 to make, could you make one? You need billions in capital to Mass produce a product for $100. I know you agree was saying it for those who don't understand.
