I currently have an iPhone 6S. I've been looking to get a red iPhone 8 Plus. I'm planning to jump on it next time I can find a deal. I could wait for the new iPhones to come out or get an X, but I personally find the Touch ID to be more practical.

As someone who uses their phone one handed - I don’t care for the trend towards huge phones. I’d miss the home button, the notch irritates me, faceid seems less useful to me than touchID, don’t care for wireless charging or having the more fragile phone to enable it... Maybe Apple surprises us with some other must have feature or leap in functionality (like 2 - 3 times battery life) but as of now I plan on sticking with my 7.

Red 8 plus is slick! Wish they released that colour at launch.

I wasn't planning to get the X+ as the screen/physical size ratio of the X is great and it feels good in the pocket but ageing eyes are starting to push me towards the X+.

2 to 3 times of battery life extended almost wouldn’t be possible with the amount of power that iPhone draws Currently, with amount of battery increase you’re referring to, it would require new battery technology altogether, which is years out before we see anything like that.

will stay with my 5s for another year. the SE seems to old to be still upgrade-worthy, and I don‘t like the rumored huge screensizes. the x is already way too big for my taste. if the 5s dies before a new se comes out, i‘ll probably get a 7. still quite big, but at least water resistant. or i’ll get an se still.

Plan on setting the alarm at 1 am to order 2 new iPhones (wife wants a new one) when the launch. Love being able to by unlocked phone since we swap carriers alot. I'm sure there will be a Sim free/unlocked version on launch night.

Sure they could have, they instead chose to add things both software and hardware wise that either took up space that a larger battery could have occupied or take additional processing which negates the processor efficiency improvements.

I really enjoy using Touch ID on my 8+(and iPad Pro 10.5) and even though slimmer bezels and a Plus model is coming I am not blown away by Face ID and the emoji gimmicks. I am on iPhone Upgrade Program so getting a newest model would be easy but i'd rather keep Touch ID.

I wish apple added Touch ID to the apple logo on the back of these new phones. I may get the 6.1" model but I will miss fingerprint unlock from my Android phone.

I’m sure it was feasible to implement the fingerprint reader on the back of the iPhone, but in a lot of ways, I’m glad Apple did _not_ do that. I was either hoping for the fingerprint reader under the display or Face ID. Face ID has exceeded my expectations and the 3D facial mapping is Much more secure over 2D.

Just going to quote myself from another thread :D

This is going to be a tough decision this year. I really like the physical size of the iPX (relative to its effective display area), but I think about the same tech in 6.5" package and how stunning that will look ... I guess for me, it might come down to some other compelling improvement(s) in the iPX+, I originally went Plus not only because of the display, but the OIS in the RFC - however, the X has it already, maybe some other new camera tech, difference in RAM, etc. I occasionally bust out my iP6S+ and think, nah, I don't want to carry something this size again ... unless ... :D

Upgrade programme so waiting for prices. If the X plus is the same price as the current X then I will be going for it.

It was totally my intention to wait for a new deal to pop up. However, I've been having more and more issues with my 6S. I replaced the battery late last year, but over the last week, I've had to charge it 3 times a day to get through the day. Plus, I've been bumping up against my 64GB storage.

I decided to take the plunge and just get the red 256GB iPhone 8 Plus today. The best comparison I can make it TV shopping: in the store, you'll see bigger and better TVs and the TV you're in the market for doesn't look so great (unless you are shopping for the biggest and most expensive TV). However, once you take it home, it's great (at least that's been my experience). This is a really incredible phone and I'm glad I picked it up. Sure, the 2018 iPhones may be better. The 2019 iPhones will definitely be better. However, this phone will do everything I need it to do and I'm pretty happy with this purchase.

The wife and I will likely be buying something from the new lineup (no $1K X's or the like) and passing our 2 year old 7's down to the kids (to replace the old 5's we gifted them last time). If nothing is really great I might just go for a Red 8, but I have a feeling that Apple will come out with something good and affordable.

Had my 7 plus for nearly 2 years. So time to upgrade to a new phone.

Anyone got a rough idea of prices for the new phones.

This has been said before, but if you have the X now, there is no real reason to upgrade this cycle. They will probably do the "color" trick to the backs of them like add a blue/red one, or some gimmick to try to get you to upgrade. But the phone will look/feel/perform almost exactly the same.

Even if you have the X, it is worth Upgrading if you want the 6.5 inch screen. I have had the X since launch, and I’m still on the fence about upgrading. I don’t know wether I want a 6.5 inch screen or will keep my current X. I don’t mind the size of the X screen at all.

I paid good $$$ for this iPhone X and I plan on keeping it until the battery dies or the some other defect causes me to get a new phone. If the phone keeps working, why upgrade for marginal benefit? So no, I am not thinking of upgrading from my X. It works great!

I have the X.

I assume 2019 5.8” will be very similar to iPhone X. So that’s a no-no for me.
The 6.1” doesn’t suppor portrait photo, so that’s a no-no for me. The 6.5” however sounds wonderful. Same dimensions as regular Plus phones, and I owned both 6 and 7 Plus. So I’ll go with the 6.5”.

I don’t have many hobbies, but  is one of them. And given the very high resell value I think it’s a quite cheap hobby.

Have an SE. Love the size but thinking of trying a jet black 7 for better battery and other things. Big mistake to spend maybe $300 on a 128 and then sell the SE to eat into that cost? Really hesitant given how close we are to a new cycle, but I don't want a phone bigger than the 7 and really prefer staying with size of SE.

Thanks!

I can AFFORD to upgrade yearly, but it's seriously a waste of money.

My device is used as a mail/sms device, camera, makes phone calls and plays music.

There is literally nothing that an iphone 8, or X does that i care about that my 7 can not do.

Seriously. What are you using your most recent model phone for that your old phone couldn't do? Give me even one example...

I get it. You like/want the new shiny. But it's a waste of money. If thats what you want to do with your disposable income, fine - go nuts. I'd personally get far more enjoyment out of spending the money on beer or whatever instead.
Clearly, it's GPU's for you ;) Most here would argue two Vega's is a waste, but that's whats important to you. Think about that when you tell others that their choices are bad.
