Congrats :). Don't get me wrong, it's still a great screen and I'd give in but on principle I won't pay full price for a 2 year old screen. Plus I'm not desperately in need of a new screen.

And I hate the hassle of resale, I'm too lazy to pack up and sort out delivery for something that size!

A better panel with less glare and USB3 would be enough for me to part with my cash, it doesn't need to be 4K. It wouldn't hurt for them to refresh the look of it though.

Well... I'm downgrading from a 15" rMBP to a 13" and all I have is a 27" 1080p AOC which I'm selling.

The TBD is my compromise in the "downgrade". I wanted a more portable laptop but didn't want to sacrifice screen space all together. The TBD is the perfect solution right now.

I'd prefer the slimmer design, but its not a huge issue.

Totally correct, it is the perfect solution right now, just I'm lucky enough that I don't need to buy right now. If I was in your position I'd probably do what you've done.

I still can't understand why people who think they need something choose to wait forever when they could just buy for their needs today. There's always a resale market.
People (me) just don't want to buy something which is out of date just a few weeks later.

I don't even know if my Macbook Air (2011) supports TB2, but I hope that the normal TB1 display will drop in price.

After recently buying a Thunderbolt Display I don't think apple will be updating it until 4k panels are more affordable.

It has a tb port for anyone who needs speed in their hub (tb external hdd), USB for peripherals, Ethernet.

The cost involved with updating it to the new iMac design clearly is not worth to have the same resolution.

Current display works with a large number of apple computers. One with MagSafe 2 doesn't.

Also keep in mind apple keeps selling these all day at 1k.

I bought Apple refurbished TB display and it's practically a brand new unit with a brown box. You can save a couple hundreds going with refurbished one.

how much did you pay?

I can buy from apple for 775€ or from a reseller store for 735€.

The used market are asking 650€ (no warranty).

Well, that sure didn't last long. Mine had a very noticeably yellow bottom and it was enough for me to pack it up. I might try again or I might wait...Not sure yet.

Was yours a new or refurbished model? I'm sorry to hear your having problems already. :(

I'm getting tempted to go with a Thunderbolt display. If they are waiting this long to incorporate TB 2 and USB 3.0, they are probably waiting to do a 4k.

I'm waiting to get an upgraded one. Number 1 on my wish list is USB3, then the thinner iMac like design.

This and the same color as the MacPro. I'm chomping at the bit to buy a MacPro but I'm still using a VGA crt monitor  with my 2008 Mac Pro so I need a new monitor desperately and would hate to buy the 2011 old style one only to have an updated one appear a month or two later. And I want to buy them together so the AppleCare covers both. Stuck in a bad spot...

I'm surprised that Apple didn't release a new monitor with the Mac Pro. All of that bling and upgrades paired with an older monitor.

I know my requirements aren't in the same league as some of you, but I gave up on waiting for a new display from Apple and added a Dell U2713HM to my 2013 27" iMac on Black Friday. It cost me $519 Canadian plus tax. Not even close to the same aesthetics as my iMac, but as a secondary display on which I keep various apps open or extra documents, in addition to my main work which I keep in front of me on the iMac it will be fine and it didn't out a big dent in the budget. And hey, at least it has USB 3.... :)

I really wanted a 27 inch Thunderbolt display, but I refused to buy an old one...

They must be getting one hell of a kick back from Sharp, especially at $3,595.00 each.

B&H has them for $2963.99
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist.jsp&sku=963987&is=REG&Q=add&q=1&A=cart

Apple decides the mark up margin. B&H decided on a smaller mark-up margin.

What kick back from Sharp are you talking about? How does that even make sense from a business point of view? I am trying to understand what you're saying here... this is what I got so far: "The manufacturer pays kick backs to a retailer and they sell their product for more." This is certainly a fascinating theory. :D

Perhaps, "kick-back" was not the proper term. However, Apple is not featuring a Sharp display out of the goodness of their heart. Apple makes a predetermined profit for each Sharp display that is sold on its website. This would have been agreed upon by Apple and Sharp. In return, Sharp displays are being featured on the Apple website next to the new Mac Pro. Do not discount the value of having your product featured by Apple. Of course I do not know the details of such a deal. But I would assume Sharp makes less money per unit but is able to move a larger volume of product this way.

I got a replacement instead of a refund from Amazon - and this one is better, if only slightly.

I could really care less if they update it or not - having Thunderbolt 2 is useless for the mass majority. There is no theoretical bandwidth gain, only logical differences. I would rather a dedicated Magsafe 2 charger rather than having to use the adapter, but that isn't a major issue.

My biggest problem now is deciding on whether to keep it at all since I almost prefer the screen on the 13" now! Maybe going with a cheaper monitor would be more practical for my uses but 1) I wouldn't be saving an extreme amount and 2) I would be giving up on aesthetics and build quality, two things I just can't hardly see past any more given Apple's vastly superior reign over those two qualities.

I have also been waiting to see if there is a refresh. It doesn't necessarily need TB2, but USB 3 would be quite useful.

I have been waiting over a year to purchase one, since some kind of upgrade has seemed overdue forever. I could not wait anymore and bought a current TBD. You can all thank me when a new one is released tomorrow!

Me too! Bought mine today: 12/31/2013. Happy New Year.

I've read some speculation that Apple is holding the release of a 4K display update due to
1) Cost (makes sense)
and
2) To release it alongside updated Macbook Pros/Airs that could have an easier time driving the display with better graphics.

For #2, I've seen reports that people are able to drive 4K displays with current airs/MBPs, but perhaps not to the extent that apple wants (i.e. word processing/youtube videos work, but not necessarily gaming at 60Hz).

If this is the case, do you think Apple would consider putting a GPU inside the updated display itself to help with processing? This would help to expand the number of current apple machines that could handle the display, however Apple usually doesn't care about past products - they'd probably just say to buy a new $2k machine alongside your new $2K display.

Either way, if you look at all the components inside the existing Thunderbolt display, it's much more than just a monitor - there are tons of chips/processing in it already. Adding a GPU wouldn't be much of a stretch.

I of course don't know enough about hardware to tell whether this would be worth it or even work from a technical standpoint, but I'm thinking it would help apple continue to pump out super thin devices without dedicated GPUs (i.e. Airs) and not have to worry about them handling the new flagship displays.

Just a thought as I continue to wait for anything from Apple here...
