When I first installed Tiger. I first did a full format of the drive then did an install.. Install went smooth took like 10 minutes

booted into Tiger and I wanted to install classic. cause i still run quark 5
I put in my restore cd that came with my Powermac 1.6 G5 and for some reason. theres a quirk that wont let it install it keeps asking for the disk thats in the drive. and wont let it go.

I was on the phone with apple support and they couldnt figure it out.
there advice was to format the drive again install 10.2.7 then classic then upgrade to tiger, this worked for me.

its a work around but it worked
hopefully 10.4.1 will fix many issues

Just installed. Haven't had any problems....yet. I keep my computer pretty clean and organized and run optimizers all the time so I think that helped in the install, I just did an update. I have too much stuff to think about loading on an external harddrive then loading it again. I like everything except Mail, I can't get used to the new look. I never had my mailbox out in panther, but now i can't figure out a way to put them away.

Software Update

Can ANYONE confirm the software update not working on their machine?
I've read in the Apple discussions a few people with this problem.I have it too
:(

If a developer sat on their ass and didn't make sure their application was compatible with Tiger (they had essentially 9 months), that is who you should be upset with....that is the bananaware.
Wrong!

If I have to disassemble my computer (read my first post in this thread) because I can't even boot from the Tiger Install DVD (always kernel panics) due to a PCI card that was normally not causing any problems (since the first version of Mac OS X), then it is Apple's fault and only Apple's!!!

All the other "little" glitches are on top of that...

Read the Support forum of Tige and tell me again that all the problems the people are having ar caused by 3rd party software...

I am also a Mac user but it must be possible that one can be disappointed about something Apple did. Afterall it is computers (that measn tools) and not a religous thing!

Wow just read through half the posts and...

luckily everything works flawless for me. i've been running Tiger for just 3 days now and have had no bug :)

my friend did have problems with Spotlight though, it missed some folders in it's indexing. however the mdimport-ing all the missing folders solved it.

just an idea.. might the spotlight problem come from shutting the mac down before indexing completes?

Go to View menu, and select Show/Hide Mailboxes, as appropriate.

I was just so used to having the mailboxes button at the top that I forgot I could do it that way (and that I could customize the tool bar as well), thanks.

Mac3DWatch screen saver does not work with Tiger. However, Apple's "RSS Visualizer" screen saver is very cool!

widget problems??

Overall
Dashboard - Widgets that I install do not appear in the Widjet bar.

If you go to your users folder and open your "user" library folder and remove the downloaded widgets from the widget folder located there and place them in the "main" library widget folder they will show up in the widget bar after restarting your computer. Also for those of you wondering, you can open multiple copys of the same widget, i.e. world clock, weather, etc ,as seen in the Tiger seminar stream.
p.s. I havent had any real problems on either my G5 imac or G5 PM after installing tiger over the old system, and have noticed faster, smoother game play at some online games sites that I use frequently.

Widget downloads

This isn't "technically" a bug but it could ( and probably is ) confuse people.

While in the dashboard clicking on the "more widgets" icon it takes you to a secure site that requires a username and password. In the meantime Apple has changed the url for widgets..
In dashboard the url for widgets is
http://www.apple.com/macosx/dashboard/ this requires a username and password

The new url is : http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/dashboard/

Apple should either fix the url or make a fix for this
:p

Tabbed browsing...

Seems tabbed browsing has some issues with closing the window while in another tab.

Try tabbing like 5 different pages or links off a page and see if you can close them off while on this page.

While I was typing this, a bug landed on my monitor.

Cheers.

Bugs noted and reported!

I just filed 4 bug reports:

Launch at log in apps do not hide when option checked - #4104319

Title bar shows Help twice in Quicktime 7 - #4104322

Hard drive icons on desktop move randomly - #4104323

Startup Disk shown twice in System Preference spotlight search results - #4104328

Make sure you file a bug report!

All you need is the free developer account to be able to file them.

A redirect has been a place for a while now, maybe a stale cache at your end.

I am having a tad bit of trouble when performing a save as in Word 2004. The spinning colored ball rears its ugly head for a good 20 seconds until the save windows finally comes up.

Wait, are there two *windows* of tabs, or just one? I can close non-active tabs in the main window still. Safari does give you trouble if its in the process of rendering the content of one or (especially more) tabs, in terms of moving between tabs or closing tabs. But that's something in common with Firefox and every other tabbed browser I've used, sadly.... Aside from that, I'm not sure I have the issue you're describing? I was doing this while having about ten tabs open to run through threads here that have been updated (I go to my subscriptions list and option click everything with new posts :D).

MOVIE TRAILERS DONT WORK IN SHERLOCK

I noticed that the the movie trailers in Sherlock dont work. Can someone report this to apple please.
Also bummed that Pro-Tools doesnt function in Tiger.

I remembered...

iChat: When you have a conversation window with someone who has logged off, the text input field still remains open; it doesn't close like it did in iChat 2.x.

Dock: Don't know if this was mentioned here already, but if you have Dock magnification on, right click an item, then click anywhere else off or away from the Dock, then the item remains magnified. This should be reproducable.

Finder: In column view, there is a 1 pixel margin between the top selected item and the list area.

You know, with everything listed in this thread, do you think someone would be so kind as to compile a list of all the issues mentioned and list them here. ;)

i posted another thread about this issue since i think its fixable, but ill add it here too.

text becomes mixed up and garbled on some (well, only one so far) web pages and the same thing happened to ichat.

Two from me

I've been running Tiger for a little over a day now, did an "Erase and Install," and here's all I've got:

1.) Did a QT export from Final CUt 4.5 last night. When I woke up this morning, the export had gone fine, but all options in the menu were grayed out, so I couldn't quit. My computer had gone to sleep in the interim. I just did another QT export without the sleeping, and it didn't happen again.

2.) I created an Automator workflow to clean files off of my desktop and file them in my images, documents, etc folder based on their extension. The workflow works perfectly, but when saved as an "application," it doesn't work at all. The workflow inside the application's package works as well, so I can't figure out what's up. I hope this can be resolved, as I'm hoping to run it nightly from iCal to keep my desktop tidy (Spotlight will help me find stuff I don't manually file anyway).

That's all of my woes, however. Already, the added benefit of Spotlight and Dashboard make it worthwhile for me. Unless Tiger does some crazy stuff to Motion or DSP, I'm thrilled with Tiger.

I noticed today that Tiger is not keeping user independent resolutions. I have multiple users on my computer and the other person likes a different resolution than I do. In Panther each user kept his.her own resolution, but this is not working in Tiger. A change to the resolution in change makes a system wide change.

Has anyone noticed/mentioned this?

Just tried it on Panther. Retains today's date.

True that. In Panther, when you quit iCal, it maintains today's date, although if you continue running until tomorrow, then it won't update it.

This is an old, old, old issue/complaint, although it personally doesn't bother me much. People have been annoyed about this, though, since iCal came out, I think. The common response used to be that, since iCal is not running, it can't execute code to change the dock appearance. And I'd like to keep the OS that way, which does not allow apps that are not running to execute code! :D However, mid-cycle in Panther (?), when iCal got the ability to notify you of events whether or not it is running at the alarm time, iCal started using a session agent. So, this argument isn't really apropos anymore, and this should be something easy to implement.

Till then, turn on Dock hiding so you won't notice it! :p  :D

Stuffit Standard 8.0.2 works fine on my PowerBook with Tiger installed, although I did have to reinstall it after the upgrade.

8.0.2? that's an old version - i've been trying to re-install 9.0.1 - which 'works' but ends up showing an empty folder whenever you unstuff something.

BTW, this is on "Erase and Install" - I never upgrade OS X with .point upgrades (only with 0.0.1 numbers).

Would someone with a CLEAN install go to the iconfactory and download an orddinary set of icons, try to unstuff them and see if it works?

We are having this issue on both of our machines here.

Calibration

One thing I've discovered - Tiger seemed to me to be slightly paler than Panther, so I went to display settings to calibrate my display. Clicking on Calibrate gets me the error:

Can not calibrate the display
The factory profile for the display could not be found

Can anyone else replicate this?

(BTW: think this is my first post, unless I did one a while ago when I first signed up for this username. So, hi!)
