One thing I've discovered - Tiger seemed to me to be slightly paler than Panther, so I went to display settings to calibrate my display. Clicking on Calibrate gets me the error:

Hi Calvin! :) Welcome to MR. How did you upgrade your computer? If you have access to your old library files (i.e. if you have a backup or did Archive and Install....) try this: Look in the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays (or one folder up from here) folder for the calibration file you used in Panther. You can then put it in the same folder of your Tiger install, or maybe use the ColorSync utility, to use the same calibration under Tiger.

I did not have the system automatically port user data and so I had to do this to restore my color profile after I installed Tiger.

MAIL will NOT work for me. I keep getting an SSL Error certificate on EVERY account, and I can't check my eMail. I don't know what to do! I have been unable to check my mail for 3 days.

Reindex

macosxhints.com has directions how to do this....

help please!

I got tiger yesterday, all installed and everything... fine, spotlight did it's indexing thing no problem.
Today, I imported all my mail from gmail to mail.app over pop3, and now spotlight can't find any of it... Bizarre.
Anyone know how to force spotlight to re-index? because it doesn't seem to be indexing by itself on the fly.

Maybe the type of install?

I did an archive and install.. I wonder if some of these problems are from a standard upgrade (and some incompatible things left in the system)?

I've had no problems (knocks on wood)...

The problems with Toast and other third-party apps are to be expected: updates will no doubt appear. What is extremely irritating is finding so many bugs within the OS. Just because it is a .0 release does not mean it does not have to work. I paid good money for a careless piece of work. I'm happy for you that your upgrade was flawless. Lucky you!

Having problems with Safari stability...and Firefox as well. If you're simply browsing the web, this is not too bad, but I was preparing to sell something on eBay and had nearly completed all steps when Safari crashed. Fortunately, eBay saves your session and let's you pick up later and continue. If you're doing anything slightly more complicated than simply surfing the net, I'd recommend caution with Tiger.

Nevertheless, I don't regret installing Tiger. I'm actually enjoying the experience, good and bad -- but mostly very good.

I'm thinking that myself. Unfortunately I have to wait for my son to clear his 40GB of music .wavs off my other Mac before there's room for me to back up to it and do an erase and install!

I notice that everywhere I've seen refers to using Cmd+Space to bring up Spotlight. On my system it's Ctrl+Space: is this normal?

My Safari has been fine except for weird broken up scroll bars.

Most likely that keyboard shortcut is being used for something else. It's pretty easily changed in System Preferences. Mine was cmd+space by default but I've change it to option-space and given the coveted cmd+space to Quicksilver.

Just a couple.

Before you import your mailboxes in Mail, make sure you have enough space. If you run out of room during an import (which doubles the amount of disk space your mail takes up, for some reason) then it'll force-finish and you will be left with no mail. Make sure you backup your mail before installing, because you might have to delete your Mail folder and replace it with the backup to fix the problem.

Also in Mail, sometimes the scroll bar won't work. I'll have to quit Mail and start it up again to fix it.

Other than that, everything is fantastic!

Dashboard - Widgets that I install do not appear in the Widjet bar.
aussie_geek

You don't just click on them and they are installed. You have to go to the Library folder (forget which one), go to the widgets folder and put them in there. Then they will show up. Just spotlight a search for 'widgets'

Weird!

I have found that I could read my wife's emails (if I wanted to!) by searching for her name in Spotlight and going to her mbox. Not very comforting, really. What price privacy?
Could you do this with the Finder?

This is really strange. You mean that the two of you have separate user accounts, right? Your wifes e-mails should be in *her* library folder, and you should not have read/write access from any application or terminal command, unless you su or login as root....

Exactly. I think this could be REALLY SERIOUS. She has web-based mail picked up by her Mail app on her Account. Granted I have to scroll through a load of gobbledegook, but the messages are in there, plain as day.

Wow. Check the permissions and ownership on her user directory....and report to Apple! That's massively whack. :(

My thoughts exactly. This is the kind of thing you expect from Windows...
I have emailed Apple already. I think I'll do the same to MacFixit.

Well, at least since it's on a Mac, the fact that your Spotlight sees it only means that you can see it. Were this Windows, perverts in Hong Kong would have pictures of your wife's underwear drawer by now! ;) :D  And you wouldn't even have needed to have such pictures on your computer. That's how bad it would be. ;)

I'm deleting the images as we speak: you can never be too sure!
 :D

Your wife does a Spotlight search for pie recipes and finds more than she expected in your so called secretly hidden "cream pies" folder. You'll have a lot of explaining to do.

Other than having to clean reinstall and file transfer and then delete HTTPmail so mail worked I have had no major bugs so far. My 4D client does not work so I will not be updating the machines on the network nor the server and my Cisco VPN is also a no show but it doesn't get used much so no biggy. Just wait for the updates to those two. Then I will be installing tiger on 12 machines what fun and joy. Only my new 17" uses it at the moment 2 finger scrolling is great. I am using it now.

Okay, clearly we all need to do some safety checks here, as new technologies enable new and hitherto unforeseen problems. Much like the rise of home networking meant we needed to shields-up on our firewalls. It looks like I'm safe. For now. ;) :D But we must remain vigilant!!!

But did you try "Chains and Whips"? :D
