Tim Cook: Apple Watch on Schedule to Ship in April

Can't live without it? Really Tim? Lol. Im a huge Apple fan, but Personally, I just don't see the need for the iWatch. I just don't see it being a big hit. Guess we'll find out in April.

Are the stainless watches going to scratch less than those original iPods?

I hate to admit it, but I am getting pretty excited about opening the Apple Watch on day one. Now I just have to decide on which one! Space Grey Aluminum with Black Plastic band is a leading contender for me, but I hate the idea of not getting the sapphire glass.

What is your source for this as it doesn't jive with anything Tim Cook has said.

You can learn more from an animal by studying what comes out of the back end instead of the front.

My predict is that Apple Watch does not see the light of day til May. Even then, big shortage with units in warehouses timing a strategic roll-out.

Let's be honest.
Like Steve, Tim "IS" the companies main salesman.

Whatever he (Apple) does not make is useless and not needed.
Whatever he (Apple) does make is something you can't live without.

That's what any salesman should be saying.
What else would you expect him to say?

Be Honest?

What if he said, yea, I love my Apple watch. Bit of a pain to have to remember to charge it every day, and be nice if I didn't have to carry my phone around all the time also, but, it's still good.

Errr, no :)

It's going to be AMAZING as Apple have spend and will spend a TON to do everything and anything they can to persuade us we need to buy one.

It's Business :)

On schedule ?? April is not begin of 2015 anymore

Nobody ever said 'beginning of 2015'.... Apple said 'early 2015'.

Early 2015: January, February, March, April
Mid 2015: May, June, July, August
Late 2015: September, October, November, December

nobody did personal phones before the 90s, now practically everyone does.

The gym use-case of the Apple watch will be huge. I'm looking forward to this in my morning workouts. The watch can be worn alone (without the iPhone) with wireless bluetooth headphones to listen to music. No more being 'tethered' to an iPod. Wires will no longer tangle in the equipment. And if the iPhone is back in your locker, within 300 feet, you can still get alerts on the watch. I missed any events during the 1 1/2 hours I was working out before, now I can easily glance and be notified if I have to leave for some reason.

I thought this about my iPhone. I've got jaybirds and sadly quite often since getting my iphone6 I have to revert back to my apple earbuds as the bluetooth won't keep a connection at the same time as my vivosmart. Lets hope the watch can maintain two BT connections better than my iPhone currently does...

Apple has been talking about the iWatch since since September 9. September 9! That means an April 9 released date would a full 7 months for Apple to finalize the watch and release it. Something is quite amiss with this new product.

Not really. First Gen iPhone was almost 6 months between reveal and launch. His is only one month longer. Not that abnormal in that respect.

So June 30th is early 2015 and July 1st is late 2015? :ehem:

Can be. Depends on the person. Though Apple clearly have the year split as either early/mid/late or q1,q2,q3,q4. Early/mid/late is obviously a split into 4 month groups, so April still counts as early. If they release after that date, then people can moan that it's delayed or missed the early 2015 slot.

My thoughts after reading through the issues discussed in this thread:

  1. Of course the software is laggy and not done yet. Writing an all-new OS for an all-new product is COMPLICATED. Updating iOS to work with the watch doubles the complexity. Optimizing all this to maintain battery life in a tiny form factor increases the difficulty another 10x. I bet the software engineers are working 90 hour weeks right up until early April to get this done, and I suspect that's been the case with EVERY major iOS release as well. Just how it goes.
  2. Lots of people (me included) don't wear watches/jewelry these days, but I have a feeling this product will change that for a lot of people. I also swore off big phones several years back, but now I own a 6+ and love it. Apple has a way of getting people to change their minds. And it's not because they have a "cult following", it's because their products are pretty darn great. They earn their loyalty. I haven't worn a watch for 20 years, but I'm likely to get the Apple Watch, because it looks amazing.

Wait, stop the press!! You don't see it as a big hit?? My god.

Common sense called ... Asked to let you know this is bs.

i dont do watches in general

How many people do you think "did tablets" before the iPad?

----------

I'm still not sold on that digital crown

on a real watch on average you use the crown, what every few months? not multiple times a day (of course that excludes watches that need to be wound up but even then it's not as often as you'd have to use this digital crown)

You do realize this watch will require more interaction than those other watches, right?

Haha. Still trying to argue against this? Did you not learn from the other thread a few days back where you also tried to say March is not 'early 2015' either?

Apple have historical precedent where they've used early/mid/late, showing they split the year into thirds. You choose to ignore this just so you can bash Apple. For someone that has no interest in the Apple Watch, you sure post enough in threads about it..,

Painfully similar. I just cant understand how this product has any appeal.Isnt it enough for people to consult their phones every 5 minutes like anxious gerbils. Now you need a watch to check notifications every 30 secondls. I dont know which is more disheartening: this ugly product or it what it suggest about the culture.

#1: I think you're reading way too much into use cases for the watch and what that could potentially mean about 'the culture'. There's a lot of bias evident in the phrase 'anxious gerbils'.
#2: I'm still dubious that you know anything about this device.

The first day of Spring this year is on March 20th and it runs through to June 21st - - and yet I have never heard anyone argue that Spring doesn't come early in the year.

All those who claim that the Watch is doomed to fail just because most people don't wear watches anymore, well most people didn't even spare $500+ for a phone 7 years ago, nor did the idea of browsing Internet on a 3.5'' screen excite them. It all changed.

No one is talking about the seasons. Only the common use by Apple of early/mid/late. Think you're being deliberately obtuse.

A month late? You're basing it on the rumours of March release from ropey sources then. Apple only said early 2015, which April is. Now they're confirming April. It's only late if that now gets pushed to May or later.

Nah, there were enough rumors that at some point even in Apple's timeline a March launch was something they were shooting for. It may be technically within the window, but read between the lines. It is just a technicality.

One other point on the watch which I find interesting is the screen can be flipped so those of us who wear it on the right can have the crown on the left.
I'm actually right handed but have worn a watch on my right hand after sitting next to a kid in school who was left handed and I just copied him (I was about 6 in my defence). It would be entertaining to see if my non dominant hand can mentally sort the crown being on the left...

People are actually arguing about Apple's definitions of early and late, here? o_O You know this is the downcycle for product releases when...

How many notifications do you get per day? That is one of the key benefits - removing the need to take the phone out to check a notification or getting a better notification.

I get probably 100 emails per day, five to 10 msgs and up to eight/10 meeting notifications. Have separate and easy ways to identify the notifications will be beneficial. It will also allow for more notifications - scoring updates in cricket matches for example.

It will also save phone battery life. When travelling for a couple of days I can massively drain the phone battery pulling it out constantly to see emails, meeting reminders and locations etc. The phone battery being preserved will be great.

Also when travelling I can see when a call comes through if it is someone I want to talk to or someone I need to talk to without pulling out the phone. Call screenign wil be easier (not that it is that hard at the moment).

I am not going to be looking at the watch every 5s for notifications - I will be looking at the watch when a notification comes through.
