You guys think April is final or can it move to May and so on? Does it have to be on Friday?
I'm waiting to book my flights to the U.S based on the apple watch available in apple stores

My friend who is an engineer at Apple (and has used the watch) gave me the impression they still had a bit of work to do when I spoke with him recently.

That would make him an ex-engineer formerly working on Apple if his boss found out.

----------

I wasn't convinced that the Apple Watch will be a success, but I'm starting to adjust my thinking a bit, especially after seeing last quarter's revenue broken down by percentages. It's painfully obvious that Apple *IS* the iPhone. 70% of the company's revenue is iPhone. Without iPhone, Apple is toast.

Without iPhone, Apple would be a highly successful and very profitable company. It wouldn't be the worlds highest valued company, but it would be valued very highly.

I hope it will be available in April for Germany too.
Can't wait to get an :apple: watch.

I even will buy an iPhone, if the watch on it's own won't do well.

To replace my 18 year old Casio calculator watch, it only has to have the following features:
Time
Stopwatch
Timer
Alarm
Calculator
Schedule
Database

I don't think anyone can say that with certainty. The iPhone has clearly helped build the company to where it is today. If you remove that from the equation, it's questionable to me where they would be today. Now if you're saying they stopped TODAY making the iPhone, then perhaps you're right.

In either event, the iPhone is often a gateway purchase to Apple's computers. If there was no iPhone, no doubt it would affect everything else Apple makes and does.

I'm still not sold on that digital crown

on a real watch on average you use the crown, what every few months? not multiple times a day (of course that excludes watches that need to be wound up but even then it's not as often as you'd have to use this digital crown)

i dont do watches in general

nobody did personal phones before the 90s, now practically everyone does.

The gym use-case of the Apple watch will be huge. I'm looking forward to this in my morning workouts. The watch can be worn alone (without the iPhone) with wireless bluetooth headphones to listen to music. No more being 'tethered' to an iPod. Wires will no longer tangle in the equipment. And if the iPhone is back in your locker, within 300 feet, you can still get alerts on the watch. I missed any events during the 1 1/2 hours I was working out before, now I can easily glance and be notified if I have to leave for some reason.

I'm sure dozens will reply in flames but here goes:

1)The iWatch will be Apple's biggest flop in a long time...signalling exactly what I have said for many years...that Apple is running low on the iDevice gravy train.

2)"My expectations are very high on it. I'm using it every day and love it and can't live without it. " Really? To make a statement like that means that he's had it for at least a month...yet it's not being released until April...so why is it taking 5 months for it be produced after being introduced to the CEO? I call BS. Either a)he has no iWatch or b)somehow production can't make a watch within 5 months of Tim possessing it. Which do you think it is?

Apple has been talking about the iWatch since since September 9. September 9! That means an April 9 released date would a full 7 months for Apple to finalize the watch and release it. Something is quite amiss with this new product.

Apple uses the same "My expectations are very high on it. I'm using it every day and love it and can't live without it. " quote on all sorts of announcements...here are some I recall:

-toilet fixed on 3rd floor
-new printer installed on 2nd floor
-shades installed at the Jobs household
-Johnny Ive's new toothbrush
-Snuggies distributed to all Apple employees Christmas 2013

The software isn't done yet - it's still in Beta. In September, Apple showed a very controlled demo. Only what they showed worked, and in that order. That's why nobody was allowed to play with the watch at the event.

The hardware is probably not fully finalized yet either. It will probably be finalized sometime in February, so they can begin production. People who are using the watch are giving their suggestions, and that will be included in the final product - like, a corner is too sharp - can it be rounded a little - or can the back of the watch have a little rubber, because it chaffs against my wrist. Those types of things.

Apple is working through bugs and glitches by giving prototype devices to close partners. The product was not 'finished' in September.

My, you don't really know what goes into making a product, do you? Apple had to get FCC approval for the watch, something that would be leaked to the public. So, they presented the watch before submitting the paperwork, just like they did with the iPhone. Now that everyone knows there's an Apple watch, they can work on other secret stuff that they'll reveal in April.

3 months to go. What if I can't wait that long?!!!?

I need it NOW!

There is something similar, for about the same price.
The price per year is even about 10 times less than an iWatch.

Shared features:
- display time
- wearable

(+) for the Tissot
- infinite battery life
- lighter
- more resistant
- lifespan over decades
- is a piece of jewelry

(-) for the Tissot
- does not show messages

(+) for the iwatch
- show messages

(-) for the iwatch
- the name is a scam
- need an iphone
- still need to take the iphone out of the pocket, which make the iwatch features unuseful
- Battery life close to 0
- Average Lifespan < 3 years
- produce a lot of waste
- Is the "watch" that pollutes the most
- can't be wear as a jewel

So June 30th is early 2015 and July 1st is late 2015? :ehem:

There is nothing about April that would count as early 2015. Of course people will rationalize however they can creating time tables that suits their agenda.

I wonder if midday is early morning ... Hmmm ...

Of course Tim Cook isn't going to say Apple is behind on the watch so he says he considers April early 2015. I'm not sure why it matters, especially to those who have zero interest in this product.

----------

A few here and there ...

1) Consumer interest in the Apple Watch has been less than expected.

2) So is developer interest. The amount of WatchKit SDK activity has been much less than expected.

What is your source for this as it doesn't jive with anything Tim Cook has said.

I have bolded two points on your (+) list for Tissot require clarification...

In order to achieve these two features, mechanical watches need regular maintenance servicing which ends up being quite expensive. $190 USD every 2 years is not a trivial sum - - if the lifespan of the Tissot is indeed measured in decades, the requisite additional cost could add up to $5000 or more!

I personally love self-winding mechanical watches, but it is not a longterm human-machine relationship into which you should enter with your eyes closed. ;)

I'm unclear how the watch gets its cell signal, does it go thru the phone, have it's own wireless radio, how does that work exactly?
