The ASP drop reflects the popularity of the smaller and value-priced $349 iPhone SE.

Smart that Apple has an array of iPhones to fit all budgets.

Sure, there was a sudden mass rush to buy a more than two year-year-old phone. Because it certainly couldn’t have been that the people who had to have an X ASAP had already gotten theirs and the X began selling at it’s ‘normal’ rate. Give me a break.

Cook also discussed Apple's iPhone X pricing strategy, as he has done in the past. "We price for the value we're delivering," he said. "The iPhone X is the most innovative product on the market, and as I've said a few times, it's jam packed with technology that sets the smartphone up for the next decade. That's how we priced it.

So, if this guy means that the iPhone X can be used up till 2027 with updates, I will buy it. Otherwise, my 8 delivers the technology I would use for the next 3-4 years without setting me up EMIs for the next decade.

The SE is the best selling iPhone in some retailers, in fact according to the John Lewis website in the U.K. its the best selling phone out of all the models they sell:

So yes people are choosing a 2 year old design over the X.

No issues with Face ID here. Works I would say most of the time. It’s great in the dark which was one of my question marks from Touch ID. Not sure how it will work on the next iPad Pro but will see as it would be a different type of usage on a desk for example as I use my iPad for work as well.

Hmmm looking at those SE2 renders... that’s one tempting design!

They misquoted Cook...what he meant was "It's jam packed with THROTTLING technology that sets the smartphone up for the next decade."

Numbers from specific retailers don’t really matter here, since Apple’s numbers encompass all retailers.

"surprised" when the 8 is essentially the 7S? Of course the new design is going to be the most popular.

Everyone who I know that bought the X wanted it for one main reason - the camera. People want dual cameras and full feature sets on smaller phones. Making the Plus the flagship phone for so long was a huge mistake, because you force people to either have a huge surfboard phone with all the features, or compromise on screen quality and camera to get the size they want.

Good for Apple and Tim Cook that Apple is selling so much stuff.
But I wish I could still be really enthusiastic about their products.
Enthusiasm is a choice so if you want to be really enthusiastic, all you have to do is choose to be. You can be anything you want to be (except for maybe Superman [unless you are from another planet]).

The point, which you apparently missed, is that's just a valid interpretation as the other made up scenarios, trying to justify the lower ASP. Why some people get so wound up about how a particular phone performs in the market is just astonishing.

What some people fail to realize, those that get so wound up, is that Apple offers an array of iPhones for all budgets and needs. That's smart business. And has produced another record Q2 for Apple - that's the real news.

So much for all the highly paid “experts” and prognosticators predicting massive drop off in sales of iPhone X.
Same can be said for many posters here who predicted doom and gloom because the "lousy" sales of the X would be the ruin of Apple. I don't call those posters here as experts or prognosticators. That insults real experts and prognosticators.

Gee, Gruber is such an arrogant manchild emotionally invested in a mega corporation -- its hilarious! He's a bad look for Apple imo,

"So much for all that horsesh*t about iPhone X sales being disappointing — average sales price for iPhones is way up year-over-year."

scroll down a little, from merely days ago:

"
SAMSUNG SEES SLOW DEMAND FOR OLEDS USED FOR APPLE’S IPHONE X "

"
Starting to sound like iPhone X sales really are falling short of expectations. You often can’t judge iPhone sales from the perspective of a component maker, because Apple could have switched to another company for the same component. But these flexible OLED displays only come from Samsung. Apple reports earnings for the first calendar quarter on Tuesday."

When he isn't busy rambling about politics like a CNN jockey, he's contradicting himself.
PRICELESS :D I only kinda keep up with what he's spewing for the raw entertainment value

I'm thinking you don't understand his writing style. He makes comments on articles from other journalists, in this case Mark Gurman. In yesterdays article, he explained that he was wrong, and questioned why he believed the Gurman report in the first place. You conveniently left out:

"Not sure what I was thinking when I gave so much credence to Bloomberg’s take on Samsung’s remarks. Poor iPhone X sales would’ve only been a firm conclusion from the above statement if the iPhone X were the only phone using Samsung’s flexible OLED panels."

You know, the part where he explains why the articles contradict each other?

Are we supposed to be happy now for a company that keeps getting our money every year for a new iPhone?

you don't have to be happy about it. it's just the nature of business. if you keep buying the phone, they keep getting (y)our money. if you don't like the direction the iPhone has gone, or like it, or whatever. don't buy it. as long as Apple continues to make money they will continue to operate in their current direction

That’s moving the goalposts then, you claimed it was false to say people buy the SE over the X, I provided a little proof of them doing that.

I didn't move any goal posts. Using a single, third-party website from a single, low-population country, will give you highly misleading results if trying to correlate those to Apple's total unit sales. It's clear that this is exactly the case here, because Cook said the X was the best-selling iPhone model, which means the SE was not.

Valid as in possible? Sure. A likely scenario? Exceedingly unlikely.

Why does it bother people so much that the X is a success?
Probably because all the news about the device has been negative since it was announced.
First it was the notch and the pricepoint.
Next it was the sales numbers estimates.
Most recently, it was the sales forecasts from suppliers.
They want it to be a flop, so Apple will never attempt to make such an expensive iPhone again.
