I'd like to see an exact comparison of the weight and volume of these cases. That Mophie case is a whale in real life - - I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it is twice as big and heavy as the Apple Smart Battery Case.

That hump case is stunningly embarrassing.

Now I understand why it takes 6 weeks to receive an Apple Pencil. Tim Cook is having his third world slave labor prioritize assembly of this laughable hump case.

Better to distribute the battery across the whole surface so the hump is less noticeable and can't they use a better looking material than wrapping metal in plastic?

The Apple case doesn't even fully even charge the iphone to 100%
Apple introduced its iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case yesterday morning, and its distinctive humped design quickly led to derision and negative comments from iPhone users.Reviews of the Smart Battery Case were also not overly positive as the case doesn't have enough capacity to fully recharge an iPhone and it's missing some features that are found in third-party battery cases.

There are several OEMs that make charging cases....not just Morphie.......These actually charge the iphone several times over and over. This another example of Apple and design over function.

I think the Apple battery case can be quite useful and looks quite durable. However, it is not really at the standard level of Apple design. That hump is hard to look at.

My 2 cents:
Apple should make 2 types of battery cases.
1. for everyday used - double the battery capacity, thinner battery, thin soft silicone case, no hump.
2. for "you're out hiking and you go on overnight trips" - triple the battery capacity, bigger battery, thicker soft silicone case or some hard material case, with hump?.

If Tim was concerned about hiking or overnight trips and charging of Apple products....this is what he should have made or suggested. A external charger will not only charge and iphone a couple times over. But you can charge more than one device at a time including your ipad or any other phone you might have. AND it's about a third the price of the $99 Apple Smart case at $33

The iPhone is a thing of beauty, elegant in design. The iPhone in a smart case is still a thing of beauty. I would never ruin the look of the phone or add additional size and weight with a Mophie or Hump case.

??? What does that have to do with my post? I was comparing the physical size and weight of the two battery cases.

The amount opinions people have over this hump is hilarious. Did I actually read this is evidence that Tim should step down? haha It's a stupid phone case. Here's why I think this exists.

Apple doesn't think that a case is necessary - with or without a battery. Therefore, this case is meant to be used in very specific circumstances: traveling, long hike, etc. You're meant to take if off and put it away when you no longer need the extra capacity. For that reason, the hump isn't a big deal. Apple went minimalist and utilitarian, saying, "you need a bigger battery? Ok, here is our silicon case with a bigger battery slapped on the back."

Apple likely didn't want the thing to look too nice because that would cause people to use it more often and cover up the beauty that is the iphone, making it look thicker and uglier (hump or no hump - Apple doesn't want to see a thick iphone ever).

O've got mine today. Software seems to be still buggy. Battery level is only visible for a fraction of a second, then it disappears. When I plugged the phone in I even had a reboot.

There's a reason why apple's design philosophy isn't working. Check this out:

http://m.fastcompany.com/3053406/how-apple-is-giving-design-a-bad-name

And yes I think Tim is a huge part of the problem. I've been saying since day one that this man is not the right guy for the job. Jony should've left the company to go independent working with other projects than getting burnt out. I greatly suspect he's suffering from creative burn out. I think he's getting tired of the same old, same old.

Ditto for Cue and Schiller who needs to go, too.
Actually, the Apple Smart Case is disconfirming evidence since it places function over physical form.

Let's face it, this product was outsourced. "Designed AND manufactured in Foxconn". California is just there to create excuses using sensational hyperbole and marketing doublespeak.

Why are so many having a stroke over this? If you don't like it, don't buy it. You all act like putting out this case somehow tarnishes Apple. Its like because Apple put out an ugly case, all our iPhones are suddenly cr@p now.

I mean, seriously. Not every product a company puts out is going to be gold.

I don't think anyone is having a stroke about it. Its more that many are in shock that Apple, of all companies, produced a product that is this hideous of a design. Apple has often chosen a beautiful design over technical advantage. This is probably the other end of the extreme.

At some point, someone thought this was a good visual design... I'm just shocked that Apple would do it... and its also shocking that Tim Cook is diluted to think that there's nothing wrong with it.

I'm just wondering if people are doing other stuff besides using their iPhone the whole day. To get my battery empty before bed time I have to play with it all day.
This^ I dont know how i could spend more than like an hour a day looking at my phone. I can only refresh facebook so many times. I do about 4 hours of streaming radio, but with the screen off, that doesnt draw any power. i get home with about 45% at bedtime every night. i charge it in my car on the way to work and the cycle starts over.

obviously there are people that get much more business email than i do, but video streaming seems to be the only thing that kills my phone.

If its died while im out in public, thats my fault for not charging it before an event.

also the city you are in and cell service plays a huge role in this. My bro-in-law gets terrible battery life on his 6s in new york. and when i visited, so did i. Network just too flush with customers?

I don't think it does. The case doesn't fully charge the phone to 100%. The other companies that make similar cases charge the phone to 100% for days. So the new Apple smart charging case is not as functional as others in the same price range.

And how do you know this?
Simply believing the Apple marketing line?
Better than believing some unknown haters on a forum ...

Totally debatable.
I owned the Mophie and sold it after two weeks.
It is huge, cheap looking and difficult to put in/off ....

What's the obsession with charging the phone back to 100%? The Apple Smart Case is lighter than those other cases, has tight integration with iOS, and has built-in passive antennas so that it doesn't interfere with reception.

my favorite part about all this is people thinking they know steve jobs enough to know that these products wouldn't have come out.

fun fact, nobody knows steve jobs. could've been worse. steve jobs has put out a bunch of crap products in his day, just nobody remembers.
call it selective memories....

More and more evidence that Tim Cook needs to be replaced with someone who actually feels passion and has a vision. Apple has no visionary. It's led by a manager and bean counter. Cook himself has no ability to say "this isn't good enough, try harder" like Steve Jobs did. Cook relies on his soldiers to tell him when a product is ready and if it's good. He doesn't seem capable of looking at things in the way that Jobs did. Apple clearly cannot innovate and cannot create revolutionary new products like it once did. Case in point: iPhone and Apple TV. Disappointments.
I'm sure an high level executive like Cook need advices by an AZREOSpecialist on how to conduct a multinational company.
Tim Cooks is doing so poorly lately .... Reality check for haters: Apple had never been so successful under any other manager, Jobs included.

In my opinion the danger with Apple seriously getting into the accessories business is that products will start to be designed with cases and other accessories in mind. Previously Apple were focussed on the main product. Companies sprung up/expanded such as Speck, Mophie, Griffin etc. who would accessorize and 'add to' the device with their own take on either case protection, battery extension or some other thing. Releasing half baked things such as this battery pack will ultimately undermine the brand if design quality starts to be spread too thin.

Went to the local Apple Store. There is an incredibly large stock of iHump. I suspect they won't sell out any time soon. Hopefully they can divert resources to the pencil and keyboard case assembly.

It doesn't doesn't do the job it was designed for. If you search on amazon you will find a plethora of charging cases designed to charge the phone from zero to 100% in various sizes. I think they all do the job better. The bigger ones can keep the phone charged for days.
Sorry but just because it has an Apple logo in it doesn't make it good or functional.
