I do 3d art. Am I a "professional"? No, I am a hobbyist.

My entire workflow is built around the number of cores & the amount of ram available. None of this software is very expensive, and apparently most folks here would be amazed at how many people use this stuff (with the exception of Zbrush)

Zbrush-Poser-LuxRender-Vue-Photoshop Elements.

I can't do what I do on an iMac - too few cores, ****** gpu & quite frankly, the iMac would melt under a heavy render load. I have a large stack of Apple products that died for Sir Idiot Boy's failure to grasp the concept of heat dissipation.

I can't do it with an iCan either - It is a TCO fail.

Everything that Sir Idiot Boy removed would have to be replaced. Perhaps some of you can live with 1 or 2 drives attached to the iCan. I can't.

As a minimum 2 4 bay external enclosures (for the data & iTunes HDs), and an external Thunderbolt dock (so I could actually connect all of the peripherals that I use on at least a weekly basis).
I didn't know he had been "knighted".

I wonder if they.... "Apple Exec's" ever do frequent these forums or others?
Where would they find the time? They're too busy piling up stock options.

I'm not buying another $800 phone while I sit here typing on a 2011 iMac. There needs to be some upgrades to the Mac line. And I'm definitely holding off on iPad purchase until it gets an A10 processor.

Of course the macs will be updated , the problem is the update cycles that follow. Tim wants everyone to buy an iPad Pro, it's higher profit.

To be fair , what else is he going to say in an email?

that's all single-core / high-clock hungry software.. at least the parts of it that are in use while you yourself are actually working..

what, exactly, type of improvements are you thinking you'll get from more cores and ram?
do you think you'll be able to work any faster? you won't.

say you spent 4 hours today modeling on your computer..
tomorrow, you use a computer with 8x the amount of cores... how long are you going to spend on modeling what you did today?

Yeah, you need new computers, unfortunately, I think Apple will disappoint you, or more accurately what Intel has enabled Apple to produce will disappoint you, I hope I'm wrong.

Then it should live up to its name and run OSX and have a microSDXC slot and Thunderbolt.

max out that imac, can be done and it's the best imac out there, if you don't have the faulty amd graphics card, LOL!!

Never had and iphone, and never will, same with iPad.

Mac represents little percentage of their profits, and, they want to stay like they are now, selling products for the elite, they don't want to gain share by selling cheaper macs, so everything is gonna stay like this.

Not to mention that, mac pro users might represent 0,000001% of their profit, for god sake, they even make them at USA, LOL. How small a market has to be so these dollar bitches produce it at USA.

If you expect anything better than this, or this situation to improve, you should re-analysis reality. It's not gonna happen;
New macbooks pro coming in 2016, next ones in 2020 or 2021, and so on.

Trash can is a **** product, pro users know it, it's a much much worse product than the watch.

I wonder how long we have to wait for all the wonderful products coming down the pipeine.

Maybe there is a clog?
Last I remember , 2014 , we were told Apple had the best products rolling out..... And we are still to see them .....

995 days: don't hold your breath.

At this point, I'm surprised if there are any Mac Pro users left that are still interested. What Pro would risk buying a product with an unreliable product release cycle, or pay the same price as at release for a 3 year old computer? Mac Pro releases have been 2010 and then 2013, so we're looking at a minimum 3 year release cycle on a Pro computer..

No, that is obvious. If someone says "I run a business where I need to transcode huge files and am limited right now because there are no Apple machines that have the power." then I would say "you've got a valid gripe."

What 95% of the people on here do with their computers is not that, and the current hardware is overkill for what they do right now. (yes I pulled that number out of my ***)

I have two Mac Pros and Two Retina iMacs, and in no way do I use all the power in them, which is why I don't attack Apple even though I would love something cool next month that made me want to buy it.

All very reasonable. But there really is no justification for not putting better graphics cards into the Mac Pro. Consider that is an amazing an beautiful design. But they are willfully not updating the graphics card. So even if you just want to buy it for appreciation of its industrial design and other things that made it an impressive computer at its release, Apple is selling you old stuff at top price. And no one can figure out why Apple can't get new graphics cards in there. It should be about a solid weeks work for a few engineers to get this done. What is the problem here?

Owning both, the trash can is a much better product. From an engineering point of view, it's an awesome product, well I should say design actually, it's a great desktop , but a **** Mac Pro . I marvel at its design and built quality, but if I was using to make $$$$ , I'd buy a PC instead, for performance reasons

Actually, this brings up a good point. If Apple wants users to move to lightning headphones, and kill the 3.5mm jack, then they'd better put a lightning port on the new Macs.
it appears their reasoning behind them removing the phone jack isn't because they want headphones to have lightning plugs instead.

it's because they'd like to continue the push towards wireless connectivity.

(see W1 chip for more clues alluding to this)

in other words, i think we're more likely to see these new chips inside future macs than a lightning port.

It is a great iMac. And I did have the AMD fail, but Apple replaced it for the cost of labor. So I'm good now. I've got 12gb of RAM and I'm running my OS and Apps off of a thunderbolt SSD. So it is quite snappy for a five year old PC.

I don't care about the percentage of profit from the Mac Pro. It would also take 0.0000000001% of the R&D budget for Apple to upgrade the graphics processors in the Mac Pro. God, at this point there are probably a dozen of engineers at Apple who have already done the work upgrading their personal Mac Pros in their spare time. It just can't be that hard to get the Mac Pro to run a modern graphics card.

Oh. I had a nightmare. "We are no longer a computer company, we are a mobile company. All Macs are summarily discontinued".

I'm going to be keeping my 5,1 for as long as I can. I've got a GTX 970 in it and planning on replacing it with a 1080 soon. I have zero interest in the nMP, for the very reason you state.

I'd love to get an external GPU for my iMac. I avoid doing intensive stuff on it because I'm afraid I'll end up with a beautiful screen with a dead GPU.

Given Tim only cares about maximising $$$$, the forced move to a proprietary connector can be seen as a money spinner.

I struggle to accept apples push for wireless connectivity as my MacBooks are the worst machines when it it comes to wifi issues . Took Apple almost 2-3 years to resolve my 2012 rmbp wifi issues . My Mac Pro, awful BT.... Had to go wired for mouse and KB.

I admit , once wired, I've had no issues with my macs, absolutely brilliant

Must be a "Commitment" issue.

As I wrote in a different Mac Pro thread, it looks like amazon may have spilled the beans early:
Not surprised. It was only going to be a matter of time before Tim killed the Mac Pro. The 2013 model was a markerting stunt anyway , with the made in the USA . I'm really happy with mine, but accept its a bad product for a pro user and will get canned

Not to mention there are so many freaking wires coming out of the back of my MP, it looks like a design nightmare.

My Mac Pro has BT issues as well.
