Despite all the complaints here, I think this looks like an interesting ATV upgrade. I'll wait to see what apps are being developed over the next few months. Personally, I don't give a hoot about games but think that the app store still could be of interest. Apple has always been about making something that no one ever knew they needed but then can't live without once they see it. The apps will determine whether that's what happens with the new ATV.

I have two ATV3s and we use them frequently (along with a Roku and FireStick). Apple might get my money for the new ATV but not until next year when the apps mature and I can decide whether it's amazing or just meh.

This one is pretty worthless. It's missing so many features for those that don't care about mediocre video playback...

Plus Siri LOL.

Ever since Siri exists it hasn't done one thing I asked for. Not even close to the subject I am asking about.

"Siri, play: Be Yourself.
Siri: Connecting to face time with Abe
proceeds to dial that number.

A typical real interaction

This is the least excited I have been for any Apple product. The have to prove to me they will actually have content before I will buy. My current ATV is collecting dust, and has been for a long time now.

Then you don't need this product. Why are you wasting your time talking about it?

We use our Apple TV every day. Our family is VERY excited about it, and how we can do things like have family game night where we can play games like Crossy Road with multiple people on the TV so everyone can watch.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'm going to wait until I see how the App situation develops, and specifically what networks push out "live streaming" or "on demand" apps similar to the ones they have for iOS. That would be my only motivation for upgrading from my ATV3. I don't use iTunes so none of the other new features interest me.

I don't get this. Siri is a time saver when you know how to use it. Why are you intentionally trying not to use it right? Not everything works the way YOU want it to work.

You're being lazy. You understand that Siri can't understand certain things, so find ways to rephrase it so siri gets it. Maybe something like 'Siri, play the song be yourself.' then Siri will get it. Right now Siri isn't perfect, but you can make it work. It's not too hard.

If my "multiple people," you mean two, then yes. But ATV4 can't handle more than two controllers at one time unlike traditional game consoles.

As an ATV2 owner, I am tempted by the new one which will give me 1080p playback as opposed to 720 which is getting a bit noticeable now.

The other draw is that unlike many other devices - Roku, Chromecast, etc the ATV seems to handle both 50 and 60Hz very well and doesn't seem to judder on my TV anywhere near as much as other devices. Even my YouView STB being locked to 50Hz means whilst Netflix looks great, the motion judder is just too damn irritating. I don't get this at all on my ATV2.

Plex is a win, although I hardly use it now.

I have a Samsung ESeries TV, but the SmartHub is utter rubbish. Slow, always updating, poor playback and interface. I got so fed up with it, I disconnected it from the internet just to prevent the annoying 'Updated' messages popping up when watching TV.

However, UK content from the BBC and independents is a must and that is the 1 thing that is making me wonder if I should wait.

Same here, I don't mind waiting a month or two to see how it turns out.

I remember doing Frogger (same game basically) on the Commodore 64 console thirty years ago.
Amazing how far we have come in that time.

No need to attack the poster. He has a valid point. Siri is not 100% accurate or even close. What you are suggesting is a compromise not a convenience. Apple products are suppose to be the latter. For as long as I can remember Apple products were sold as ones "for the rest of us" that didn't want to do things like memorize DOS commands or complicated key commands. It was about simplicity.

Siri is matured yet it's still unpredictable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. That makes it a waste of time. I think THAT is OP's point. If the user says the "play 'be yourself' " then Siri should be programmed to recognize that "play" must mean "Be Yourself" is some sort of media and then proceed to search music, then video, not jump to a contact list.

It's hard for some to accept imperfections.

Siri isn't perfect. Perhaps it should be, but I think that's unrealistic given what it does. So you'd rather throw it out than accept it's good points and work around it's weaknesses. I don't think like you do. I love Siri. It save me a lot of time and I accept the few times it isn't perfect.

I am soooo excited about the concept of non-linear TV. I cut the cord and have Sling TV, basically to stream ESPN. This allows me to sign in to the Watch ESPN app and use it on the Apple TV. The Watch ESPN app has their live channels, as well as video clips and other live and archived events in what they call ESPN 3. It gives such a better experience then just watching ESPN and ESPN 2. If all channels were like this, we would not need a DVR either.

And it does exactly that. I just told Siri "Play be yourself" and Siri play Be Yourself by Audioslave. I'm not kidding. And my accent is really bad. (Not native English speaker)
It seems the original poster has an agenda against Siri.

Could someone please help me? I'd like to have two Apple TVs. One for the den and the other for the bedroom. Would there be anything wrong in buying this ATV for the den and the $69 for the bedroom?

Of course there things that I can ask Siri for in natural language like the weather or a sports score or a reminder or opening up an app, and it works 100%. But there are other things were it may or may not work like asking it to call someone in my phone number. I don't use Siri for the latter because it's quicker to punch in then hope Siri gets it right. That was my point.

Regarding Siri on AppleTV, we'll have to see if its been refined. It is can't be near 100% on my TV then yes, I'd rather use the remote old school because that does work 100% of the time.

My ATV gen 3 is gathering dust and I'm not convinced the new ATV would be any different if I bought it. The only time mine has been spun up recently is for some of the Apple Events, and to AirPlay one thing from my iPad. All my other streaming needs are handled by my Xbox One (with netflix and amazon prime video) and Plex.

So the new apple tv, which I've waited forever for, is the weakest link in my av chain. Lacking 4K.

You can argue that content is the weak link, with an awful lot of it being in "just" high def. But I do have uhd content - including stuff created, ironically, by apple devices, and I will need to figure out a way to route these sources around the apple tv.

Continue to be very disappointed in apple's short term, and heavily shareholder driven, approach to providing what they think is the bear minimum they can get by with . no 4K, soldered in memory, cripples mac mini, 5400rpm drives, lack of unpradability and even maintainablity of new imacs.

I have a ATV2 and ATV3. No conflicts at all. They both show up in Airplay on my Mac and in the iOS Remote app. BTW if you wait a bit I'm guessing ATV3s will be even less during Black Friday. Also Apple sells reforms for $59. Yeah, I know $10 hardly worth getting excited about but it's still $10 more in your pocket than you would have had. Apple refurbs are great. Same warranty as new, just different box.
