Pay attention. Again, the message of acknowledgment is the key. Watch Apple in India as we go forward.

Oh, right. The message of acknowledgement. Pay attention. It was a lame, obvious attempt at this "acknowledgment" you seem to be so happy with. Very much an "Oh, brother" moment if you truly think this was designed to be a step down the road of winning the hearts (and wallets) of that country. Do you think they are that gullible? Or maybe I should ask, do you think Apple sees that entire culture as being so easy to manipulate? Lame and transparent.

Apple is becoming more and more a SJW playground with Tim and his peers at the rudder...

Because they put some funny sounding hoidays up on the Calendar app? Oh brother. I guess it's time to buy a Korean smartphone or a Chinese one.

Or maybe you can just uncheck the box that is adding holidays that you don't want to see. I'm sure there are plenty of people who've done that because they really don't care to have Groundhog Day jamming up their date cells.

1st para: That’s really offensive, sounds very racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic.

2nd para: I agree with that point of Groundhog Day, that is not needed, as well as Flag day.

How often do you or your peers celebrate Eid al-Fitr? That is literally now in the Calender.app.

Cute, but you really ought to polish up your English and learn how to spell calendar correctly before trying to be this clever (of trying to make it sound like I was the one making xenophobic remarks).

You’re making too much of the actual event, as if it’s a bad thing. It just tells me where Apple is headed and how they think.

Apple is already a major aspirational brand in India. They have already won.

Did you just assume English is my first-language. America is a nation of immigrants. You just prove my point.

Pixel 2 beats it. I've used both and ended up keeping the Pixel. It's even more amazing considering it has one lens compared to the X's two, all thanks to the software. You hear that Apple? It's the software that counts. Something you've been lacking in lately.

C’mon, while what Google can achieve with 1 lens is impressive, Pixel 2 can’t even zoom properly and the photos look almost fake cos of all filtering applied to each photo.

Also, as you mention, iPhone X has more potential to improve upon its superior hardware through software refinements whereas Pixel’s upside is limited.

And what point is that? You're the one who had an issue with foreign holidays appearing in the Calendar app. It's probably in there because it's useful for some people to know. Half the entries don't apply to any single random person anyway so just turn off the holidays if you don't want to see them. Problem solved.

I literally can’t even right now.

if I wanted a good camera I would buy a Nikon F or a top of the line Cannon.

I'm not totally sure what point you're trying to make here.

Are you saying that Apple should stop improving camera technology because a $5000 DSLR with a $3000 lens would produce better results? In that case, why should anyone bother improving anything when better, more expensive, specialised products produce better results?

Or are you merely pointing out that an $8000 kit would take better photos than a $1000 phone? Because no one is debating that.

There are many people who enjoying having a good camera in their pocket. I ditched my DSLR because the quality of my phone is now good enough. And I only have a 6S. Sure, it's not as good as my DSLR was. But the convenience of having it on me at all times far outweighs the quality of the photos I wouldn't have taken because I didn't want to lug my DSLR around.

However, I will admit these photos aren't very good. I've seen much better iPhone X photos. Probably has more to do with the holiday rather than the photos.

I bet you never read the TOS of either. In some areas Apple is much worse than google eg Apple will share your data with third as it deems fit, while google will only do that with your permission...

Apple is not the saint you think. And they are very weak on privacy, giving keys to iCloud data to the fascist communist regime in chine. It’s really sad when you think about it....
Googles lengthy privacy policy (https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/)
Apples privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/privacy/)

Google clearly does more with your data.

Some nice reads for you:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_and_privacy_issues?wprov=sfti1

I'd like your evidence on Apple misusing the trust of its users to use with their ad platform. But, I think Apple quit their ad platform because they couldn't get the targeted effect google has (morals maybe?).

I think it's sad that people actually defend google on this. People actually say Google taking their data is a good thing. Hint: it shouldn't be done unless you get something good out of it. I don't think paying premium for a phone that has a camera feature mined off user data is good when the user is getting milked both ways: data and money. If Goog had their phone for cheaper for their Goog users (like substantially) I'd be ok with it. I think the price increased though (pixel to pixel 2)...

With China, Apple can't break the law. I don't know what you want from them. If they don't give in the the government obviously it isn't good for them. Yea capitalism blah blah. The fact is different countries have different laws and Apple is a foreign company. You can't expect a foreign company to change the minds of a nation, right? That's politics. And people around here don't want Cook/Apple with politics. Or is this another one of those, "I'll hate on anything Apple does" scenarios?

I wonder how a dSLRs would fare at a Holi festival if it were protected in the kind of sealed case that's used to bring dSLR style cameras underwater on scuba dives.

I'm pretty sure everyone would look at you like you were completely insane, but the camera would probably be fine. :D

Actually the difference is small enough that it’s not as noticeable as a camera phone, unless one is pixel peeping.

The difference is even smaller when both phones are compared to a DSLR. So let’s not oversell their capabilities.

But not to diminish what Google has done using software, which has its own limitations, one example is horrible artificial bokeh effects.

You might find this interesting. https://www.androidpit.com/camera-blind-test-results-samsung-apple-on-top-pixel-2-tanks

They all do it, although Google gives you some value back. For example, I get alerts from time to time saying "found a new restaurant you might like..." and things like that. They're brilliant!
I don’t agree the value that Google provides, if they really wanted to provide value to users, they would give users like me freedom to pay for services in return for no advertising or nefarious implicit data collection.
But that option doesn’t exist where they won’t collect my data for advertising if I paid them for the ad revenue they would lose, that’s simply because they want to sell the information collected with implied consent of the unsuspecting user. This is exactly opposite of users best interests in mind, and that is Google and Facebook for you.

I thought you were being facetious, but if you weren't, I apologize for going off on you.

If you go back to my earlier comments and read the comments I was responding to, you'll see the guy I was replying to was making xenophobic comments so I was being sarcastic in response to his comments.

I actually thought you were a troll trying to stir up trouble, but perhaps you just didn't understand the context of my exchange. DM me if you want a full explanation.

The point is pretty clear unless of course one is being over analytical or reaching for a reason to disagree but IMHO Apple should maybe focus more on improving the mentioned handicaps of the 1k phone and not tout as much on the camera quality and ability. After all it is called the "iPhone". ;)

So why are you here on this forum? We can only assume you own some Apple hardware or you wouldn't be here. You cannot deny that combining two or more Apple products increases the convenience and workflow power greatly. At least that's my experience using Apple products both personally and professionally. Surely you understand the difference between a dedicate pro camera and a smartphone that takes nice pics but also does about 10,000 other things.

"So why are you here on this forum?"

My Bad! I was under the impression that this was an open forum for discussion, civil rants and honest opinions and not exclusive for those who polish the "apple" on the teachers (Mr. Cooks) desk.
The point was clearly directed toward the photo op that was displayed... therefore with the upmost respect, consideration and regret I'm sincerely sorry if my opinion didn't jive w yours and my comment bruised your feelings. Forgive me???....maybe even one of those Anderson Cooper hug outs?? :)

"Surely you understand the difference between a dedicate pro camera and a smartphone that takes nice pics but also does about 10,000 other things."

Except having to use an adapter when using wired earbuds, questionable battery issues, a flawed Siri along with the other mentioned handicaps.... so without splitting hairs ("10,000 other things." lol) surely you understand the difference?

It's great that phone cameras are finally catching up to digital cameras from 10 years ago. You cannot beat physics, the sensors in phones are tiny and you'll always be able to tell when a photo was taken with a phone. Seriously, are those supposed to be good?
