In a new interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook said he's worried about the "endless, mindless scrolling" behavior that social media inspires people to undertake and is generally concerned that people are "using technology too much."
So the new iPad mini's jelly scrolling is not a hardware defect or iOS bug. The jelly scrolling is a feature designed to stop the "endless, mindless scrolling." 🤣

"Using tech to much" is maybe not the mindset I want my tech guy to have. Just saying.

It's not the technology, the ability to scroll, it's the mindless content. Social media is full of too much mindless junk because many people need constant stimulation. Social media celebrity culture is pure mindless junk food.

Tik Tok with its 30 second videos can easily spread misinformation. I've seen the zombies scrolling Tik Tok videos one after another. Bit-size chunks of mostly stupidity.

I think being glued to screens makes people feel more important.

Wonderful, maybe stop focusing on small screen devices and get focus on making amazing computers, that's where the creativity happens. The real magic for them is to figure out how to get more people off their handheld screens.

Maybe clear to you...but not clear to the hundreds of millions of customers who buy Apple products, the board and shareholders..
Not the 1st time in history that money and power corrupts. Some people even are on the same train as they don’t know anything else, poor souls.

Sure as a generalized statement that could be true depending on the circumstances. But who do you believe has been corrupted? The hundreds of millions of Apple customers, because they are the only reason that Apple is in business because they buy the products. So are the hundreds of millions of Apple customers corrupted?

Very true. I’m calling it - a return to the Victorian Age, and the sight of an ankle making us swoon!
Actually, the sight of an ankle meant the woman was poor and likely a prostitute as the rich could afford multiple dresses and didnt care if the bottom of them got dirty since they could wear another while one was cleaned. The Poor had to worry about keeping their dress clean to wear multiple days to attract men. The sight wasn't "sexy" it was a sign of a prostitute.

One does not simply go about buying the world. It leads to lawsuits one may not be able to buy their way out of.

I agree that Apple should only buy Adobe if their lawyers think they can do it safely. But Apple Photoshop, Apple After Effects, Apple Premiere.... an entire company focused on regular releases of industry standard creative pro applications. It's hard to think of a better software team acquisition.

I think Tim is more concerned about what we might see and discuss on their devices rather than that he wants us to create something great. Their censorship methods and privacy blunders are an evidence of that.
Our apple iOS device is never owned by us anyways, every since the release of iPhone. Jailbreak brought a bit of the ownership back but it didn’t last long.

Well that’s my history lesson for today thanks 😂 I bow to your superior knowledge of ankles 😁

Pretty stupid of Tim Cook to NOT know that ALL Apple needs to do is replace the two Marketing Weenies who run the App Store, Schiller & Fischer, with others who have much more appropriate backgrounds !

There are UN-Discovered Gem Apps in the App Store that would achieve Cook's stated goal, but they don't get their Day in the Sun, so they are UN-able to gain traction & get noticed !

As a reminder, neither Phil Schiller OR Matt Fisher, the two guys who run the App Store, have ANY software development experience OR ANY experience running a third-party software company !

I refer to it simply as the App Store Leadership's "Technical Incompetence" !

This is an admirable goal. Are they actually doing anything to make that happen? That's the important part

I do not use any of his products and have browsers and ad blockers to prevent his and others' trackers, the hate for him is warranted though, he is profiting off of those mindless scrollers, their offspring, and anyone they are connected to. And despite all of his scandals (one example is cambridge analytica) he is still in the seat not being held near accountable.

As to the thread topic, Tim forgets the typical user, mindless scrolling is far easier to do.
The people who use these social forums do it by choice. No one is forcing them to use fb.

Sounds like he is winning to me. Made
Billions.

Ummm, Tim boy, you built a device without a useful file system that is geared towards entertainment and mindless scrolling, how else will it be used. Give it a real file system that works with other file systems, and a true OS that takes advantage of the horsepower and allows people to be creative. Otherwise shut the bleep up! The current state of iPads is that they take at least 2 or 3 times as long to edit photos and videos in a professional manner than does a computer, and the apps just don't support such activities anyway. You can doodle on it, you can watch YT until the cows come home, you can play games until you are so damn old that your parents finally die of old age and you finally have to get a job to support yourself, but you can't do professional level editing of phoos and videos, you can't do architectural and engineering Cad drawings on any meaningful, usable level, you can't really do much more than play on it. Make it a real tool Tim boy, or again, shut the bleep up!

It’s not and has never been about “technology serving humanity.” It’s a 2 TRILLION DOLLAR company, not a public interest group.
Sure, then Apple can just harness the power of technology to destroy Facebook so they could destroy humanity instead of Facebook doing it the “wrong”
I never understand the hate for Zuck. Don’t use his products, simple. I use zero social media. Except for a couple of forums. But hate the man? The fact you don’t know him makes that seem silly

Don't need or miss it. I’m not the most social person. In fact I don’t care for most people. Prefer my dog and cats company over people anyway.
Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean others don’t, and somehow others hate on Zuck goes unwarranted. Plus for quite some people, they have to use social media account as that’s part of their job.

what don’t I care about? Zuck? Not at all. Wish I had his $$$$. Everyone here would do the same thing he is. Your lying if you say otherwise.

It would suck if I had to use social media for work. Would probably leave and find another job.

I don’t have total insight what’s going on inside of Apple today. Neither when Steve was CEO for that matter. But as a customer I notice and feel the huge difference in how things are running.
Apple is just a product to me today.

Apple are not only in the business because people buy their products. There was a reason people started to buy there products. Some of us just buy the product today, but not the idea behind today’s Apple.
Like any other product we need for our use. Like the Airpurifier I bought recently. Have no idea about anything about the company behind those products.

I buy no ideas from Apple or Cook whatsoever today. As long as I find use in the product I will buy them.
But they are not providing or inspiring anything for me today.
Steve was all about planting new ideas into people, creative ideas, think different!

There’s nothing different in Apple today, just a big successful company that still lives on the different thinking Steve and Joni was capable of together.
Investors or buyers in general don’t care much about, not often, the idea behind companies either.
As long as they get benefits from their investments.
I am no different when it comes to Apple today.

I learned plenty from the years Steve was CEO, it was inspirational to many.
Tim, uhhh, would even reject an invitation to talk with that guy almost regardless of what I got payed for it.

They did have and do have some truly amazing apps. They killed some of them, and thankfully continue to keep the remaining.

How about an article:

Users Want Apple Devices to be Designed as Efficient and Intuitive Devices That Happen to Also Look Nice, Not Designed as 'Endless, Mindless Fashion Statements.’

Interesting that Apple’s solution for “technology serving humanity” isn’t improved working conditions but… a new lifestyle app with a high annual subscription model (and Apple taking their large cut).

Not very convincing.
What the heck are you talking about? Name a company even a quarter the size of Apple that works harder to improve the working conditions, assiduously insisting they're documented.

I agree that we should limit the mindless crap in such a vast world of information and entertainment. I think it starts with self discipline.

I'm a Ui artist for a large games company, yet i don't spend lots of time playing games these days. Despite all the creativity, all I like to do at the weekend is get away from the screen out in the countryside with nature as it grounds me. I don't have much time for endless scrolling on so called "social media" I think it's quite the opposite of social and distracts on what's real.

I guess you could also call me a hypocrite as I make shooting games that could affect someone's mental health.
