There's little hope of being able to partition them, right? I'm probably going to have to look for an external hard drive then :(

Or is there a good chance the information earlier was wrong?

Until someone gets their hands on one and tries to, we won't know.

I know I am going to hold off until I know Time Capsule backups/restores are working flawlessly. Plus I want some benchmarks, especially for those of us stuck with Airport Wireless-G cards and not the newer Wireless-N cards.

Darn I ordered mine on Feb 16 and it hasn't shipped yet, just Prepared. I did use Standard Shipping though, are those of you who got shipment tracking numbers using expedited?

Apple Online Store has changed from "Shipping: February" to "Shiipping: 5-7 business days".

You could always crack it open and do it yourself. I would assume that would void the warranty though.

Mine (500GB version) shipped out from Shanghai as well on the 28th. Not sure if that was local Shanghai 2/28 or not. Estimated arrival date is 3/4. I got my MBA a day earlier than the original prediction so it's possible it will arrive Monday.

FWIW, I didn't order the first day, I think it was a couple weeks after.

Mine has shipped too. I am ready for this thing. Can anybody answer this question for me though. Can I use my 500 gig time capsule and move my tv shows/movies from my MBA to it and sync my Apple TV with the time capsule? Essentially I want to remove everything but music from my laptop and store on the time capsule and Apple TV. I am wanted to avoid taking up so my HD space on my MBA. But I know that the Apple TV has to be synced with that particular library. Can you do it with the time capsule? Also if I can I am going to keep my MBA synced also so I can listen to my music.

If that were a feature, I imagine Apple would advertise it. So my guess is this is not a feature.

Time Capsule is meant to be your wireless router with built-in backup (via Time Machine). It isn't meant to be a central point to sync all of your computers and devices.

I like the idea Microsoft has with the Windows Home Server. I have seen it in action and the concept is really cool. I hope at some point Apple will do something similar. My guess though is that the market for such a server is too small at the moment to justify making a new product.

Per Time Capsule Page on Apple website:

Works with iPhone, Apple TV and more

Time Capsule works flawlessly with Apple TV, iPhone, iPod touch, and all your other Wi-Fi devices that use the 802.11a/b/g and 802.11n draft 2.0 wireless standards.2

This would indicate to me that it will sync with your :apple:TV, iphone, MBP, etc

any thoughts?

Apple advertises the product as a wireless hard drive.

You can do with it anything that you can do with your hard drive.

My guess is this is for the wireless router portion of Time Capsule. Or else they would specifically say syncing.

Syncing is too big of a deal to be limited to a small mention like that.

Not used an :apple:TV before how is it connected to your broadband?

Is a wireless connection practical in terms of transfer rates for downloading HD movies etc?

My reasoning being, that if not, then for it to work flawlessly with :apple:TV it may be for more than just acting as an internet access point

I am not that wide in the ways of transfer rates so excuse my ignorance if this is not the case!

Well, I'm not streaming anything. But I know with my airport extreme base station and my :apple:tv I have no delay times when buying a tv show and watching it or renting a movie.

hmmmm...

time will tell. it will be interesting to see what happens when people finally receive theirs

Apple TV can use either ethernet or wireless. Anything downloaded via the Internet will go just as fast wirelessly or with ethernet, since just about every home has an Internet connection slower then their wireless network's max speed.

In theory if your streaming say a HD movie from a Mac to Apple TV, it will take longer to "buffer" on wireless, but it shouldn't be much of a delay. It may not be even be noticeable.
