Still "Prepared for Shipment." Not worried...

Anyone else who ordered there's earlier (mine on Feb. 9) still waiting around for there's to be shipped?

I can't answer that now. Yet to get my TC. Might get one tonight after work. My previous post was based on the articles I read from gizmodo, apple forums and macrumors of course. Some say it creates separate partitions for multiple users to back up. Apart from the back up partition, there is the User accessible space which should show up as a network drive. This is my intuition of how it might work. :)

OK it seems that transferring from my macbook pro to the time capsule transfer speed 5-6mb/s

I am currently transferring a 7gb file and it says it will take about 20 minutes. Does this help?

Yes. Ordered the 1TB Time Capsule on January 15, it's still "prepared for shipment." Been like that since Wednesday morning, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, really.

Wow !! Thats amazing compared to what I get on my home network. My router (Trendnet 432BRP 802.11 b/g) gives me a meager 350 kbps while downloading big files (lets say a dmg from Apple.com). Although my Macbook peaks(max !) up to 1.2 Mbps, its nowhere close to the TC's 5-6 Mbps. Of course we have to consider that this is all internet traffic. To prove that its pathetic even within the Wi-Fi, we have had iPhoto stall on both our machines while sharing Albums (Even the preview stalls, forget about checking out the shared photos). I strongly believe its not the router to blame since it gives me about 1.5 Mbps on my other 2 windows laptops.
Just FYI, I got a new Penryn based MBP 3 days back and have been pissed off about the pathetic wireless throughput. That's the reason I was thinking about getting a 802.11n Base Station. TC seems to be a good candidate. And since I have 4 laptops at home - MB, MBP, and 2 windows laptop, we could have all our multimedia stored on the TC. What say ? ;)

Wow. Well the figures came from my MacBook Pro 2.2 4gb. My MacBook Air is backing up now. Do you think the new MacBook Pro's wireless is less efficient than the previous generation?

As far as using TC as a general backup it seems to work fine. I also put about 7gb of music on it and used it as a itunes music library for my macbook air. Songs played fine. Didn't have time to try a video. I synced my ipod to my air using the TC and not as fast as having the library on my computer but doable

Will i need to unlock my Mac pro to use the 802.11n? I have the first released Mac pro. I have my 1TB Time Capsule hooked up and i never saw anything the addressed this.

I have it connected via the ethernet cable as the first back up is being made.

About the new gen MBP's wireless, I cannot comment till I get to tweak my router and really do an extensive test to find out what's the problem.
Now about your other point, I'm getting confused now.
Your iTunes library is on the TC - understood.
The part which confuses(or rather makes me :D) me is that you could wirelessly sync your ipod-touch to your iTunes library (on the TC) over 802.11 !! This is getting exciting now. ! A multimedia .N base-station-server !

P.S: As another observation worth sharing, my MB 2.2 GHz/4MB L2 Cahce/Santa Rosa/1 GB RAM boots faster(3-4 seconds atleast) than my base config 15.4" MBP/Penryn 2.4 Ghz/3 MB L2 Cache. I wanted to brag about my "fast" MBP when my gf started laughing on my supposedly fast MBP !!

Yes, but it was my iphone:).

Well, I love my 2.2. Screen is great. I read on one of the Mac sites that they are thinking the Penryn base Macbook Pro has a IPs screen not a TN. I could not see any difference between it and mine at the store. So I would assume the LED panel is still the same as my current 2.2.

What is also funny is that everyone complains how slow the MacBook Air's 4200 drive is especially boot times. My Air boots as fast as my Pro which is about 30 seconds. All this is soooo strange.

I had thought about selling the MacBook pro but wouldn't consider it until I could see if TC would work for my Itunes library and sync as I described earlier. It seems to work"ok". So what now????:)

Could you swap your own HDD into TC? Is that possible? I know no one has theirs yet, but isn't TC like an external with wifi networking?

Several of us have one. I just finished setting up one I picked up from the local Apple Store today.

No need to add a new HDD internally. In my case, it has a 1TB drive already - so it can't get any bigger unless a bigger drive comes out.

You can also hang at least one drive off the USB port. The menu screen shows room for about a half-dozen drives. Each one likely shows up as a separate volume. Since there's only one USB port, it will need a hub as well.

I'll be more willing to experiment once the Time Machine backup completes.

I had to restart my Time Capsule to connect my Wii. So i stopped the backup that was in progress. Now that i continued the backup, i see it only displays 13kb of 29.72 GB transfered in the last 10 minutes. This is via the ethernet cable. I hear my hard drive working away, so maybe this is a problem with time machine.

I did the same thing but setting up another pc. I said 13kb for awhile. I think I reset Time Capsule and it cleared.

I find it SO DARNED COOL, to be able to actually track ONE BOX from the factory to my front door, ISN"T IT GREAT to be living when we are, really!? Who would have believed ANY of this could be possible even ten years ago? Gosh, at age 59, I have seen things go from black and white TV with three stations with rabbit ears, to this. Amazing times we live in.

I agree and I'm in my late 20's. I've seen the internet grow from a dial up (loud) modem to what it is today and it seems amazing. I can't wait until the day you purchase things with your phone and watch it shipped to you and tracked via GPS.

At the same time I don't like to think about the ability to pay for things using my thumbprint, not that I've committed any crimes, but I do enjoy my privacy.

Sorry to get off topic but I thought TanToday made a great statement that no one was addressing.

I'm really hoping I get mine Saturday even though it was in Anchorage last I checked. Dear olé Alaska, how I love thee USA.

In the Airport utility menu bar, anyone figure out how to use the Music setting?

110v-240v compatible...?

could an owner just check, i would like to buy one in the states to bring back to europe, do i just ned a plug adapter and will it deal with the diferent voltage itself, like laptops, or do i need a whole power adapter?

Music is meant for AirTunes configuration. The Time Capsule doesn't support remote speakers through iTunes.

It's a feature only available on the Airport Express or the Apple TV (new).

Mine STILL says "prepared for shipment" and ships by Feb 29th. So, they missed their ship date and there is still no update on a new arrival time. I am wondering if anyone else that ordered theirs in early-mid February or any other time with the 1TB model has the same thing?

If you ordered the 1TB model and still waiting to, please post when shipped. Looks like maybe a few Apple stores got the 1TB model, but mainly the 500GB models shipped the most and first?

Damn, I was hoping it would be for a shared music library i could copy over, but I guess that would violate a few sharing laws.

I can't seem to get my damn Time machine to finish a backup. I've seen preparing and constant disk activity for about 8 hours! And for my first test run I only selected about 80 gb, and that was done a while ago. So something screwed up my settings when my timecapsule restarted.

Would also be interested in the answer... Thanks...:)

Mine just shipped early this morning -- 1TB model pre-ordered on January 15. The confirmation email's time-stamped at 5:15 am. FedEx reports that it's left origin Shanghai. Of course, it shipped a day later than Apple said it would (shipped on the 1st and not the 29th). :\

Well, I had to abort a backup and restart. It finished overnight last night, but the restart *looks* like it's hanging. That is, it will show some stupid number like 36k of 66GB remaining, and stay that way for quite a long time (2-3 hours here). The progress bar continues to move, but very slowly.

Towards the end of the progress bar - say 80% or so, the GB remaining jumped to a reasonable number and the backup completed shortly thereafter.

Throughput during this backup was extremely slow. So slow, I thought it was broken - just 2 or so MB a sec on GigE. Testing later showed performance for lots of small files was terrible, but large files transfer very quickly.

Ordered mine today, just noticed it is in prepared for shipment. It did say shipping 12th Mar del 13th-14th Mar.

I am in the UK are they shipping from Shanghai or from within the UK, does anyone know ?

I ordered mine on February 25th and it shipped today at 2:28pm. Says it left Shanghai China. So I guess it's on the slow boat from China.
