I personally had the atrix and loved the fingerprint reader and larger screen, but I could not stand the plasticky feel of the device and the retina display did look a bit better.

I honestly the feel of the Atrix doesn't bother me at all. Sure it doesn't feel as solid as my iPhone 4 did, but I don't feel like I'm holding a piece of junk either. Another plus is that I can have 48 gigs of memory with the 16 internal and 32GB micro sd card. Of course the next iphone will probably hold 64GB, but we are talking right now. I have not had a chance to theme my phone so I can't compare it to a jailbroken iPhone yet.

OK why do people rate build quality by feel rather then actual test? I think it is fair to say that the Samsung Galaxy S II has a better build quality thin the iphone 4. Don't flame me read this post first. The iphone four is known for its screen shattering from short falls, while the hard plastic phones will fall to the ground bounce once or twice and only come out with a scuff or two.

Access speeds with the MicroSD is vastly slower than Flash internal, regardless of card class.

Doesn't matter to me. I only store my music on the external card and it accesses it fast enough. Pictures, videos, etc on are kept on internal storage.

Will you be selling the Atrix once the new iPhone comes out?

The next iPhone would have to be a huge upgrade including at least a 4" screen for me the jump back. The Atrix is fairly future proof with a 1Ghz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. People say Android phones don't get software updates as consistently as iPhones and they are right, but with all the custom ROMs out there I think I am set for while.

Oh yeah the Atrix is also 4G...so that is another plus for being future proof.

Don't really know or care what Apple does with Macs, but is any one else moving on to other smartphones because Apple is determined to keep behind in technology? Of course the iPhone would be a full year behind on 4G just so they can "save" that as new feature for the 2012. That is all Apple does...release phones with outdated specs so then adding them later and calling it in upgrade when it has been other phones for ages. Just like the excuse of not having Flash...who cares if it will be obsolete soon if we still need it to browsing webpages today? /endrant

I used an HTC EVO for a week..and i couldn't be happier when i got my iPhone 3G back. iOS is just the best mobile experience for me.
Apple to keep behind the technology? Not with iOS 5, it isn't. But before iOS 5, i definitely thought Android was a better OS only because of the notification system.
4G? Well i'm all happy with 3G, and 4G technology won't benefit me at this point. So i can wait for a year.
Flash? It's proven to be horrible on mobile devices, it's even been said so for Android phones. Apple looks to the future, and HTML5 is the future.

So yes i'm moving to the iPhone 5 from my iPhone 3G in a few months.

The iP4 is no question easier to break in a short fall, but that's just the glass and/or screen. It can be replaced easily. You can't equate build quality towards user mishandle. If users want or need a tough phone, they will buy that instead.

The iP4 is one of the most solid(in terms of feel) I have held in my hand. And even though it's not tough when dropped on to concrete, it's pretty tough in my pocket. I can't tell you how many other devices I had that the screen cracked or just stopped working because of it being in my front pocket and kneeling down during work. The iP4 pass the test for me, and is more resistant that people think.

Flash is terrible. It's unneeded and it's dying. 75% or more of the internet is now H.264 or a non-flash medium.

Plus, any designer/developer who develops flash websites should be shot. It's just because they are too lazy to learn CSS3/HTML5 and use a little AJAX.

I love reading complaints about "specs!" Are you seriously dumping the iPhone because of specs? What doesn't it do in terms of specs that you'd need done? Are you crunching video editing software or something?

There is nothing on the market right now that the iPhone4 can't handle (spec wise). It works just as fast as the day it was released. The OS is smooth and rock solid.

You guys and your triple core, mega power smartphone needs....it blows me away! In terms of 4G, do you honestly think the entire country is ready for 4G this year? Apple will adopt 4G when they determine the user experience will not suffer. Currently, 3G suits 98% of the country just fine with WiFi a predominate backup.

It is a smart-phone...NOT a super computer. I for one love the fact Apple controls the experience (a great experience) and doesn't succumb to idiotic spec warfare at the expense of battery life, fragmentation, etc. Does this mean the iPhone is for everyone? No, but jumping ship because of specs...give me a break. You signed a 2 year contract knowing full well specs would continue to advance months after you paid for the iPhone. You'll never (and I mean never) have the latest and greatest unless you get a new device every month. If that's you...good luck!

For me and the millions of other iPhone users, we can "get by" on the old technology just fine.

Most people think of LTE when 4G is mentioned. I personally don't expect LTE anytime soon nor care for it until it's implemented enough. However the next iPhone will most likely have 4G HSPA+ which I will be more than happy with. I'm speaking as a ATT user though. Could it be possible that the GSM version is HSPA+ capable and the CDMA(Verizon) version is LTE?

You're assuming facts not in evidence.

Here's the truth: 4G is not ready for prime time yet. It's a battery hog and disappointing in throughput to-date in many key markets such as the US.

It'll happen when it's ready. Meanwhile, mind that little hate issue you have, it's corrosive.

Hate. I have purchased at least 7 iPhones since the the first one launched in 2007. I don't love or hate companies like some people on here do. I go with whoever serves my needs at the time.

Off the top of my head, one thing would be streaming 1080p video, particularly with video out (preferably over hdmi). Of course on such a small screen 1080p isn't warranted but it would be nice to be able to do video out to a HDTV with 1080p.

I'm not saying Apple's business practices are worse. I'm saying they make lesser phones for the time they are released. The phone are great quality with great support, but they always leave out things that could reasonably have been implemented early. I'm not even talking LTE here either.

Copy & Paste? It kills me that Microsoft left it out of the first version of WM7. My issue with Apple is they just don't finish things and they lock us out of things we should be able to control.

My wifes 3Gs is more stable than my 4. Once a day I go to answer and when I swipe to answer...nothing. I end up missing the call. There's lots of other things that tick me off.

I'm off (I hope ) to check out an Infuse today. It's time for something different. I don't know if I will get it or not but I'll at least look at it and the others. WM7 phones, as much as I want one because I can develop for it....they are just like Apple.... Sorry, you can't customize that.....

You pay more for Apple products because for the most part it gives you a much better user experience then the competition.

The only thing that your paying for with a mac is the software.. There is no difference in hardware from a PC to a Mac..

The software is what makes it work and it works great on mac..

I'd say 75% is a little high, and I certainly wouldn't credit Apple for that move, things were going in that direction long before they showed interest.

Wow, just like the PC versus MAC thing.

PC person: It has better hardware!
MAC person: It's all about the software, baby!

Ring a bell?

It comes down to personal preference, leave it at that.

im pretty new to apple but ive learned they dont just ram every feature in a phone wondering how it will work, but they do try to make the features they do have on the phone work properly

I left for an android device and while it was a good phone, i felt the quality was just not the same on many levels.
Pics
video
apps
hardware build
call quality
battery life

If someone handed me an android device and said "he's your new phone" i'd still be happy, but overall the iphone is a better experience.

I'm currently happy with my iphone 4.

Arguing the merits of one form of high-end consumer technology over another seems asinine. When one gets to the point at which they are willing to pay $200 or more for a device, the question of which device is better becomes moot in the sense that, on the one hand, both forms of technology are highly capable for consumer use, and on the other hand, that high-end technology will likely be usurped by something else within a few months, perhaps a shorter period of time.

In the end, there are differences between higher and lower functioning technologies; this much is obvious. However, at both poles of the consumer marketplace, differences are ones of scale and less of concrete, noticeable, and useful function. In other words, consumer choices are more about how one associates oneself with a product, how one uses it, and in relation to these two things, how that product is marketed and the image associated with it, ultimately relegating debates about the merits of high technology irrational.

You obviously haven't used a current 4G LTE phone.

Its not that Apple doesn't want to add 4G LTE connectivity in the next-gen iPhone, its just that Apple is smart and has a great reputation and is known for making products that "just work", give great experiences, and get great battery life. Those three main things must all be present for Apple to EVER release an iPhone, and with the current 4G LTE technology that's available, one major thing out of those three things cannot be met to Apple's standards: battery life. This is exactly how it was for when 3G was being rolled out and put into smartphones and Apple opted not to put it into the iPhone when 3G was first being rolled out. They waited for the kinks to be ironed out because after all, 3G then was new and had it's flaws, one of them being poor battery life, but now the 3G chips that are in current smartphones are more efficient. The same will happen with the 4G LTE chips that are in current smartphones. They are not efficient at their current state in time, but as time goes on, they will become more efficient and the kinks will be ironed out. So, by next year when Apple will most likely add 4G LTE connectivity into the iPhone, the kinks will be ironed out and the 4G LTE chips then will be much more efficient than the 1st Gen 4G LTE chips that are being used now.

The current Verizon 4G LTE phones have TERRIBLE battery life. I owned a Thunderbolt and it died in 3-6 hours with LIGHT use on 4G, with most of the time being spent idling, to be honest.

So no, its not that Apple doesn't want to add in 4G LTE connectivity now so that they can announce it next year as a feature, it's because it doesn't meet their criteria. An iPhone with 4G LTE connectivity would get awful battery life which is something that Apple would be very unhappy about.

Hope I was able to explain this out a little bit better lol. :)
