Dish Network has the ability to stream your TV to your device and it is not limited to being on WiFi or having to get your internet service from them.

Yes - I have this. Quality on Wi-Fi is excellent (HD) running on my Mac and iPhone 4 - "Other" wi-fi spots and 3g...not so good.

It is fantastic in the house though...watching the contents of my DVR, or live TV outside on the deck (this was last summer).

This is the receiver you need. Dish acquired Slingmedia a few years back. If you don't want Dish Network, you could always just buy the Sling Player.

Why are those people in that video sitting in my great grandmothers living room?

UVerse has had this for a while

I often hear of a show, open the app on the iPhone, find it, and click "record." Or I can look at the list of recorded shows and download one to watch.

Just take the plunge and buy a slingbox pro. If you go this route you can watch any provider ( cable, Sat or Vios ) in HD as well as another source such as a video camera, apple tv or dvd player. Now your not limited to these companies screwing you and you can always change to another provider. Plus you can view all of your DVR recordings too. Works on 3G too you just cant get hi-def when running on 3g but it works perfect.

You spend big money on your ipad, iphone and other electronics whats another $300.00 for a Slingbox. I use it in my car, boat and while in my office when pretending im working.

what a boring movie. These guys look like a Dilbert cartoon, except that it's four pointy-haired managers at once.

Someone better bring in Phil Schiller!

SCNR :)

Great except you can only use it on your home internet. The only place I'd want to use this is outside of my home.

Wait, aren't those your great grandfathers? Regardless, they sure do look excited, don't they?

Not exactly at the same level as an Apple presentation.

I'm less than thrilled about this. It would be cool if I didn't have to be at home to use it.

I like how TimeWarner is coming out with this "only good if you want to watch TV in the bathroom" app but they don't even have an app to program your DVR on the go. They have a site where you can do it, but you have to log in every time and it gets errors for like 50% of the things you try and do.

Does the uverse app stream tv channels around your house to you as well? If not, then its not really the same is it? I DONT have Uverse so don't know much about it....mostly curious about the app

How is it only good for bathroom using? That is what someone with no spouse or roomates says, and it's a lame answer. My wife can now take the food network with her in the kitchen, and do all the cooking while watching the healthy cooking shows whie she follows along! It means I can watch some NFL on my patio on a nice day, while the wifey is in the family room and we're just hanging out instead of arguing who gets to watch what on the TV the other person can view what they want! How many house holds with kids have only 1 TV and this opens it up to those people now? so yeah, lame thought process bro

Took them long enuff gosh they are lazy, I don't like TWC I have there service and it stinks sometimes. Also there stores are open like a day a week that is retarded and every time they come up with a new feature I need to get a new cable box, and most of the time I can't get there that one day a week they are open. So I dont like them but. They are just adequate , I'm happy I got to tell that all u people.

Also I can now watch tv in my yard thank god the wifi reaches, so I am just a little happy

Actually, if you have the VIP 722 or VIP 722k receiver you can do this too without paying the $200+ for the 922; however, you need to shell out $99 for the adapter. No additional monthly fees for this either, which is pretty slick. I'm not sure if one works better than the other, although the 922 supposedly has a better UI. Engadget did a review of this late last year. They point out that this is better than the SlingBox experience because you are controlling the TV2 tuner instead of TV1 which allows your family room viewers to not be bothered while you are browsing channels on TV2.

unless you use Time Warner Cable for internet, and then you'll be cringing at that .2 Mb/s upload speed

This. Upload speeds with Time Warner are abysmal. Here in North Carolina we're getting promised an 'upgrade' to 1 Mbps upload (currently at 0.38 Mbps), while Time Warner is trying to push through legislation in the state Assembly, putting a de facto ban on the few community fiber networks starting to catch on here (that happen to offer symmetrical uploads in the 15-100Mbps range).

Time Warner also wants to join AT&T in capping your data transfer.

Time Warner Cable's service is so ridiculously bad that I have extremely low expectations for this app. At least once an hour, we experience bad tiling on our TV, with sound dropping out regularly and sometimes not in synch with the video. There have been several occasions where channels just drop out for no reason for minutes at a time, or the picture freezes. TWC techs have no explanation for any of this, since they've tested our lines and replaced our equipment and declared "everything should be working just great." Plus, TWC has experienced major outages of cable and Internet service across giant swaths of California twice in the past year.

On top of all this, our area is sorely lacking in HD channels. We've been promised an updated lineup for the past year, but they keep pushing it back and no one seems to know when we'll get the same lineup that almost everyone else in the TWC system has -- even the people a mile away from us on TWC are fully decked out with HD channels that we don't get. It's like Comedy Central is teasing me every night when The Daily Show and The Colbert Report have the chyron at the bottom at every show open that says "Now available in HD."

The UI on the 922 is sweet. 1080P (best way to describe it), and the remote is much better too. Allows you to map a HT receiver volume control to it.

The 722 is also dual tuner, right? I guess you could use TV2 for the sling box (or use TV2 as the main TV), but I am not sure if they are HD. Plus - You need another $40 or so to get Dish to unlock the USB ports (crazy). I think the 922 is worth the extra $60, and to be honest, all TV content providers are the same...lots of faults. This just appealed to me, since I work away a lot. My kids love it too...they watch on their iPod Touches.

Knowing how Apple played Readability, I would not be surprised if Apple demands a 30% cut from the customer's cable bill :D

Apple should not be so greedy with the subscriptions. I would hate for publishers to go to Google's arms because their cut is 10% compared to Apple's 30%

The wife is going to LOVE this on our Time Warner System.

The Program Guide will never be the same. Brilliant. :apple:

p.s. A little worried about the CTO on the (L) however. Seemed Dazed and Confused. The CEO was into it.
