I think some people may have had just stuck pixels and returned their ipads prematurely. On day 2 of using my ipad I found stuck pixels and anytime the screen was a solid color or if i was reading text filled screen I noticed it.

I was close to returning it but the next night I was using it and the stuck pixels that I thought were dead were gone. Ive used the ipad heavily ever since and they have not come back. screen is perfect now.

Some people may have seen stuck and returned right away when the problem might have corrected itself with use. granted you have a 14 day window and they didn't want to risk the chance.

I posted this elsewhere, but here is my 4th iPad and has the best screen so far. Im quite happy with it.

Congrats. This looks like a great screen. Nice to know they're out there somewhere. I saw one like this on display at the Apple store.

Well there are some people like me, who have gotten several duds in a row and have been told, sorry you can return it, but you can't have any more. That's fine. What exactly am I supposed to do with the $1500 worth of apps I bought?

Apple is a crack dealer. The apps are the crack. The iPad is the pipe. It serves the crack dealer quite well to do WHATEVER it takes to make sure you have a PERFECT crack pipe at all times.

really? you showed the staff a pink/yellow/light-bleeding/dead-pixel screen and they said you were correct, and could return it, but they wouldn't let you try anymore?

i assume the ipads on tv, in the store, and the ones bought by others were all defective as well, then. if not, why not buy one of those?

apple isn't a crack dealer. they sell a product and you can buy it or not. 1500 worth of ipad apps!? sounds like you have other problems you need to address as well :)

Yeah his other problems to address immediately is to learn to deal with sarcastic and judgemental people like yourself.

Ever consider the possibility that your idealization of perfection is higher than Apples and 95% of the rest of the consumer base?

That doesn't make you wrong and everyone else right, or vice-versa. It does mean however that you are unlikely to be satisfied by Apple products. So they cut you off accordingly.....they know you have greater requirements than they can meet. Simple business logic....and sound logic at that.

All of these "my screen is perfect but I can't take a photo of it" people just sound asinine IMO.

Most people don't have the skill or equipment to accurately capture what they're seeing with the naked eye.

I can go take pictures of my beautiful Pioneer Kuro plasma. The pics will reveal all kinds of purple and other elements of the picture structure that aren't there for the eye.

Heck, for all we know a truly perfect picture might just look yellow or blue on someone elses terribly calibrated monitor.

I have a feeling some people are just not visually sensitive enough to see a poorly colored screen, as evidenced by the post and photo above.
More like people are so obsessively looking for a flaw that they imagine one where none is present.

Having personally seen the pink/green color cast on a total of 9 different iPads, 5 of which came from different stores/shipments, I feel there are far fewer "perfect" iPads than perfect ones out there in the wild, that people are aware of.

There are several factors here.

1. Most iPad owners are not on macrumors.
2. Macrumors members without a screen problem (noticed or unnoticed) are not participating in the discussions about screen problems.

That said, I feel that there are a LOT of defective pink/green screens out there, and that people either haven't noticed, can't see it, or don't care.

Case in point, this post, whereby the poster shows the photo below and states "The backlight seems perfectly even on mine. The following pictures don't do it justice at all".

So far in the various threads, I've seen maybe 2 instances of a good looking screen, with photos. But I've read dozens of "my screen is perfect" posts.

I have a feeling some people are just not visually sensitive enough to see a poorly colored screen, as evidenced by the post and photo above.

So if you're gonna boast about your perfect screen, and call those who are seeing a problem crazy or OCD, how bout you put your money where your mouth is and show us a photo? If some of us are in fact OCD, some of you are, in fact, blind, and I just proved that.

What?

If someone lacks the ability to discern defects, then it's relatively perfect to them, and since everything is relative, I repeat...

What?

You have to look at the evidence building up. I have no doubt a number of users have a perfect (or shall we say hard to spot it's non-uniform) screen, but the majority of people who care enough can see the issues.

What evidence is this? A tiny, but extremely vocal minority of users who are unlucky with their screens? Out of the 10's of millions sold? That isn't evidence.

Most people here are complaining. We are real people and most of us don't have OCD. This wouldn't even have anything to do with most cases of OCD.

Not to mention that every time I've exchanged mine, I saw at least three other people exchanging theirs for various reasons. I'm sure they were all other MacRumors members with OCD though.

Here's a pic of the one I just picked up. Definitely seeing things.

Most people here are not complaining. And the number of people here is a TINY fraction of the people who have iPad 3s. I'm not sure where I mentioned OCD so I'm not sure why you bring it up. Sounds like you have bad luck. I personally would have given up after 2 or 3, but I have better things to do with my time than to keep driving to the store over and over again.

I have a white, 32GB, WiFi only, ordered directly from Apple ~March 11th (BDay present from my amazing wife :) ) and it appears to be pretty perfect.

I do some photography, have done my own calibrations on TVs (using service menus), and I like to think I’m somewhat discerning about display quality, though maybe not as OCD-ish as some folks (I reserve that for my cars :D )

One of our cameras is sitting close by, the D40 I believe, I could shoot a pic if anyone is interested. Maybe use auto settings and the Apple.com home page?

(Had a few BMWs and live at the beach, I guess I’m a man among men like BJ, hahahaha :D )

You are capturing artifacts that result from photography, the angle and orientation of the iPad and its subpixel structure relative to the camera, and the edge lit nature of the panels.

AND you have a trophy wife. Life must be good for you BJ!

Look! My The New iPad has light blooms all over the screen! It only happens when it's on the floor of my study viewed at a 10 degree angle inches off the floor. It's the reflection of the recessed ceiling lights and the candelabra on the mantle. I'm unhappy! It's defective! I'm returning it!

BJ

I agree with the OP. I was and am still pleased with my screen. It is very even, a bit yellow but definitely has the green tint on a black screen if I tilt it. But I don't view my iPad that way so who cares!

You proved nothing with your anecdotal "evidence" and subjective "feelings" and experiences. Your arrogance that everyone that doesn't experience what you have is "not visually sensitive" enough and actually "blind" is absurd.

My advance apologies if this is an April Fool's joke and I just fell for it.

Sadly, I don't think it is.
