Maybe in AUS and NZ, but not in the US. You can pick up various Tom Tom ONE models for < $120. And that includes a mounting kit and charger.

I'm all for integration, but not at those prices.
I think CoPilot price point of $35 is closer to the mark, but eventual they will find a < $20 sweet-spot.

Last December TomTom units were selling for about $70 - new, not refurbs.

Pricing above that would be ridiculous for the software installed in a phone - a PHONE!

Let's see, in today's Sunday Los Angeles Times (page A23), Discount Computer Warehouse in Northridge, CA 818-576-9111 advertised a TomTom GPS for **$49** !

No Tts

Just purchased the Australian version, and I can confirm that there is a complete lack of TEXT TO SPEECH. Bummer, I was expecting that feature reading this thread, however, now that I read the app store thing, there is no mention of it there either.....

Maps are up to date and UI is easy enough though, and seems to navigate well enough.

Will be handy to have on the phone, as I'm often in different work vehicles, and lugging around another piece of gear is a pain. But am disappointed as I was expecting text to speech for the price.

TomTom has lost there minds. $99 USD  Way over priced I don't even have to try it to know that much. One can buy a full TomTom PND for that price.

It's up in the US store now for $99.

I justified $3,500 for a an 8 core Mac Pro, but somehow just can't get myself to pull the trigger on a $100 TomTom app. There's something called being ripped off then there's something called being raped up the butt. TomTom has chosen the latter I guess.

Just posted on US Itunes store.

This thing is a full flegde computer system that happens to make phone calls. It is not just a phone. And the computing power of an iPhone would make dedicated TT hardware look like caculators in comparisum.

I just think this app is going to be a tough sell in the US for $99. TomTom ONEs sell here for $99 regularly and sometimes less. Good luck to them.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet or no.

But there should not be any differnce from other applications where you can have it on many mulitpe devises so long as they are using the same iTunes account.

So husbands, wifes and other family members all get a GPS navigition software for the low price of one sale.

Can't get a family plan like that from buying dedicated hardware from TomTom or others.

Well, at least the wait is over. Now on to the wait for a price drop to a more sane level or a sale or something.

Edit: good call on the sharing it with the husband, skritz... that makes the cost a bit more palatable.

I'm not seeing it in the US store. Not sure if that's because I'm in the midwest and not east coast.

Can somebody post the link?

Please feel free to compare the two. Gotta say, I'm beginning to lean more towards Navigon. UI just looks a little nicer to me.

Yeah I can't wait for users and the inevitable Macworld/ilounge review roundups to decide.

So far for me it is between, Navigon, TomTom, & iGo MyWay. CoPilot, Syngic, G-Maps etc. all seem to be less fully featured albeit less expensive alternatives.

So far, it looks like Navigon has the advantage of the best UI, iGo MyWay has free map updates until 2010, and TomTom has TTS out of the gate. Navigon seems to have some problems when searching for POIs/ their POI database though...

I want to know what Navigon/TomTom's map update pricing is going to be and who has the best routing and POI database before deciding. Also, I want to know if I can use the TomTom cradle with my Incase Slider Case (it doesn't look like it but maybe someone can verify when they get it), the cost, and if I can just buy the app on the appstore and buy the cradle separately at the store or if I have to buy the software/hardware bundled...

conparison: Navigon, TomTom, iGo MyWay, CoPilot, Syngic

is there a feature and performance comparison among the various nav apps? What about updates, etc?

conparison: Navigon, TomTom, iGo MyWay, CoPilot, Syngic

- cost
- feature set
- performance
- updates

I'll do my own research, but I was wondering if this has been done already? Thanks.

I think just the app is way too expensive. Others have already pointed out that you can get a TomTom device (with harness etc.) for much less.

My car recently got broken in and the Garmin Nuvi 760 got stolen though it was not visible. Important reminder! Take your GPS AND the harness/bracket with you or it will be stolen. While your car insurance may pick up the cost to repair the break in, the aftermarket GPS will not be and has to be claimed under home insurance which is pointless -- in that the deductible for the latter will also be $500 or so and not be worth it.

Now, if the software + harness was like $80 - $100, then it may be a good buy. Anyhow, people! I suggest getting the cheapest GPS device possible since the higher end models usually give you some extra features which don't really get all that used up anyway.

Just bought it and downloading the app right now. I'm going to drive around and test it once it's finished.
