I don't carry my GPS around either. It stays in the damn car. And passengers can play with the iPhone/iPod Touch while the GPS does its job. Can I see a case for device integration? Sure. But if it costs MORE than the various component parts? Forget it.

What TomTom are saying here - is that the device you buy from them now, is worth exactly £0.

Great point - if you have stand alone GPS unit already this is a waste of money as you tie your iphone to routing which not allows any passengers do anything else.

I have left my TomTom in the car, in plain sight for over 3 years. Never had an incident - but I do live in Australia.

I spoke to TomTom support this morning about the release and the car kit. They had no idea the iPhone version was released over the weekend, and didn't know when the car kit will be available. Nice one, TomTom.
You could leave it in plain sight in New Hampshire also but that is one state in fifty.

Since I can't find this app via my iPod touch's App Store, I assume any hope of iPod touch use is done? I bet that the new iPod touch will be able to use it. Should have waited 8 months to buy, I suppose.

Those of you who bit the bullet and bought it, give us a review. Does it have TTS? Some say yes, some are saying no.

I have been waiting forever for this release and just purchased it. I had some extra money just sitting in my paypal that covered the purchase. It is downloading now, so I'll let you know when I have a chance to test it out. Still 20 minutes left on the download.

Thanx, looking forward to it :)

No problem. I have purchased and used

Gmap West
Navigon
Sygic

and now tomtom. Sygic was by far the worst and had horrible gps reception and routing, it almost always took forever to lock onto a satellite. Then the rerouting was the worst, it would be so inaccurate and have me do numourous u-turns even though no u-turns was checked

Gmap west was a decent app though the UI sucked. It was so cumbersome to choose a destination and navigate. Though this app was a lot more accurate than the Sygic was so I used this more often and it was only half the price

Navigon was by far my favorite of the three. The UI rocked hardcore and I love that it included the speed limit for all the streets, that feature alone was totally worth it. It was very accurate and quick to aquire a satellite signal and was very easy to pick destinations. So this one was worth every penny paid.

I chose to go with TomTom because that's what I used and loved before i got my iPhone. I am really hoping that TTS does work on this and that they will eventually have cool voice add ons for the app. still a little bit left on the download, then I will take it out for a test drive :)

Thanks for the quick pre-review. I would say that among other things, I'm most interested in how the two apps compare with regard to the ease of simply opening the app and specifying a destination as that is what will be done each time you use the app. In other words, can one select a destination without any typing or in fewer menu screens than the other app, etc.

I'd like to see reviews. I like this interface. looks pretty much the same as my standalone tomtom.

I found a bug:

This is actually a really good deal if you share accounts with friends. If you have enough people you can easily get the cost down to $20 a person.

I hear ya, I share the itunes account with my wife so it's nice being able to share, plus I just got my two kids ipod touches, so now app costs are split in 4 :p

I wish tomtom would now release info about ordering the mount, I would like to order that and get it on it's way.

No Real Time Traffic then no $$ Tom Tom. I would love to ditch my standalone Garmin unit but not without some sort of 2-way communication for features like traffic, fuel prices, etc.

I can buy a standalone Garmin with lifetime traffic for $149, which comes with the cradle, power adapter, etc. This is a rip off at $99.99.

The only reason I'm waiting for the TomTom is the hardware mount. Is that going to be quietly placed in stores too?

The website doesn't have an info yet. Not even links to the App Store. Strike 1 TomTom.

Thank you MacRumors and all you wonderful MacRumors users. Keep the information coming.

Finally downloaded and installed. I am really enjoying playing around with the interface. I wish it had the logo for POI like Navigon, but that's no biggie. Going now for a drive to test it out.
