It's almost 2AM here and it's time for people go to sleep and get ready to work tomorrow morning instead of driving... Im going to test this at 7AM.

Its about 2AM here also. Im in Ohio. Can't Wait though Thanks!

WOW...Navigon jumped up to #1 on the paid apps list in the navigation category. Guess a lot of people weren't too impressed with TomTom's offering. I am leaning toward Navigon too.

I wonder if the TomTom cradle will work with the Navigon app or any other app...hmm.

A lot of people have been sleeping and TomTom has only been available for a few hours. Of COURSE it trails in sales behind any other navigation software on iTunes.

Navigon will NOT work with the cradle since the app needs to access it actively, and it has not been designed for that. And even if they would try, you can be sure that TomTom will have built in some type of authentication between the cradle and the app so the cradle will work only with the TomTom app. Unless Navigon pulls a PalmPre of course..

Wow, no text to speech?

Makes driving dangerous. I use GPS software on my smartphone and have frequently used stand alone units too, I could never imagine using these without text to speech. I'd rather keep my eyes on the road than GPS display.
I love the way they integrate multiple voice speech.

Please dont go with Navigon.. Ive tested iGo, Sygic, Navigon and G maps, and Navigon performs the worst. iGo so far performed the best, sat lock was quick, precision tracking and very fast refresh.

However, I'm probably getting TomTom since I cant imagine that app being bad.
Just stay away from Navigon.

Navigon is very easy to use for beginners with 3D.
TomTom is like a MAZE to me without 3D.

Here's my video of me preparing TomTom for tomorrow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6va9AKTZEY

Can anyone post any screens of the lane assist feature?

Where is eastern europe too?

I was waiting for this app for quite a while now, but $99  i dont see how can i justify all that for navi app, if it had live traffic then id consider.

Well ill follow the news and perhaps there will be going out of business sale  .

Correction

Does anyone know if this will work without an internet connection? For example when your on vacation and don't want to be roaming?

The other user who quoted this is semi-correct in their answer. Every app DOES require them to use their own map tiles, which means all the maps are stored on your phone (thus the 1.21 GB download...) but there's one problem. The iPhone 3G and 3GS only have a chip that's called assisted GPS in it. What that means is that it can receive the signal from the satellite but it can't interpret it very well without towers. It might work ok without towers but it is designed to be assisted by towers offering data as well as network triangulation to pinpoint where you are. I'd be interested to see some reviews on people who try it without cell signal, but I can tell you it isn't designed to work that way.

Can anyone confirm that you can input hyphens in street addresses? Here in Hawaii we use hyphens for most residential addresses. Example: 92-168 Usa Dr.

Thanks!

This isn't quite accurate.

While the chip may get weaker signals, leading to slow fixes, A-GPS can function as a stand-alone GPS chip, or it can't. There isn't any middle ground.

The problem with GPS in general is usually in the "Time to First Fix", where the device may not have a general idea where it is, which helps calibrate it and reduce the error of the actual calculations. For example, TomTom stand-alone units have the "QuickFix" feature which is a pre-download of location data for the GPS sats for the next couple of days.

A-GPS uses the cellular data network and the cell locations to get this quicker fix, and to assist with corrections to the GPS data to reduce error (sometimes with more accuracy than a stand-alone unit). While you can use the iPhone outside of cellular range, the sacrifice you make is slow Time to First Fix, as no ephemeris data is kept for very long, nor does it make any predictions of where sats will be later... so it has to wait for a clear transmission of that ephemeris data from the satellites (which can take a couple minutes if you are in an odd location or have weak signal). Once you have the fix, there should be no difference between an iPhone and a stand-alone unit with the exception that the iPhone might not get a strong signal from as many satellites as the stand-alone.

I believe A GPS mostly speeds the initial position fix. Once you have that it doesn't really matter if you lose your data signal due to a hill or something. If you don't have a connection to the mobile network from the start then it will take the same amount of time to fix it's position as some other GPS units (a few minutes) every time you turn the app on.

Actual size of western Europe app vs uk/ Ireland?

Can someone please post the physical size of the western Europe app?
Is it possible to select countries stored on the iPhone to reduce size?
I don't want to carry the full app around always if possible.
How have people found listening/selecting iTunes music (plus receiving calls) whilst tomtom is in use?
Thank you

Great Job TomTom:mad:
Overpriced app and no eastern europe. Its a joke. Waiting for upgrade on navigon for safety cameras and TomTom is dead for me.

Can I install this on more than 1 iPhone?

I have 2 iPhones that I use with one iTunes account. Will I be able to install TomTom on both of these devices, or is there an additional registration step required?

This will be the dealbreaker for me.
