I don't think this s real. He doesn't look like a typical Apple engineer.
You are joking, right? Google it. This interview has been used for all sorts of Apple products for years now.

Of course, he is not an Apple engineer. The interview isn't even about Apple.

Our of curiosity, why did you order from them, instead of best buy, or apple, or amazon directly ?
B&H charges no tax outside of NY. They have excellent customer service and free 2-day shipping.

The keyboard initially felt a bit weird when I tried it on the 13" in the store. I still managed to hit 99 WPM on a typing test on the first attempt, as compared to ~110 WPM on my own rMBP. I think I could get used to the shallow travel. Brain and fingers just need to readjust over a few weeks.

when you return it, do you get a full refund?
It doesn't make sense to Apple since they now have to sell it for less since its "used".
Yep. Full refund. They don't lose money cause they sell it as refurbished for 10% less of the original price. So they don't lose money, they just decrease their profit margin, which in the case of this machine is ridiculous anyway...

I was recently helping my mother in law with her Thinkpad T60, a vintage notebook that I gave her after I switched to Apple years ago. Man, that was a keyboard. I was surprised that it's so much better than anything we're willed to accept today on a notebook. Apple now seems to have added something to the long way down of notebook keyboards. They successfully made the low standards even worse.

Just got my shipping notification. Apple seems to be stepping up the pace, a bit. My card got charged yesterday, moved to "processing shipment" around the same time. Then quickly this morning it went to Shipped. Strange enough, i've been hounding the UPS.com website and trying to track via reference number and, as it turns out, it shipped via FedEx. Strange, all my previous shipments have arrived via UPS. Best part, its expected delivery is the 17th - spot-on with the first day of the original shipping estimate.

My shipment was updated to the 14th. Looks to be back on track from yesterday's mixup.

I just saw the touchbar rMBP in a sealed glass case in the Apple retail store. It looks really nice (aesthetically). But I already know it's gonna suck because I tried the non-touchbar version... The keyboard is trash, like the retina MacBook's. They made it super shallow, so the keys almost don't push down at all when you press them, making it incredibly hard to type on unless your fingernails have just been trimmed. Even then, I can't imagine it being very good because it feels like typing on an iPad screen. Darn. MacBooks keyboards used to be among the best on the market, and now they're among the worst.

The Apple Pencil with iPad, on the other hand, was pretty impressive, but I have no use for it. I guess I'll be buying a used 2015 rMBP eventually. :(

First of all, the keyboard is actually updated from the rMB. It has a new mechanism and i'd estimate a tiny bit more travel, typing on mine now. Second of all. after using the new keyboard for about a week, there is absolutely no way I would go back to the old. You can type significantly faster with the new keyboard. I was also in the camp of not liking them but it's just a matter of getting used to them. I was typing on my friend's old Pro and they just feel so spongy and awful in comparison. Feels like an ancient typewriter now

refurbished section keeps selling out on select items like 15" MBP 13" MBA iPadAir2.

The keyboard on the new MBP's is exactly like the 12" macbook. For professionals they maybe able to justify the exorbitant price increase. Waiting for the new models to hit the refurbished section in a year or less is an option also

Hopefully this means they will be in Apple Stores to demo soon. I want to see for myself. I doubt seriously I will buy one because I would prefer an iMac but I might change my mind. The faster NVMe storage, touch ID, better screen, etc is almost enough to make me want to jump on board.
I wonder if the new iMac with get the NVMe storage? I also wonder if Apple will find a way to directly integrate touch ID into the new iMac.

Ordered a 15" top end machine with the 460 GPU to be delivered to my local Apple Store. Was schedule to be available for pickup on Nov 25 however today it is scheduled for a Nov 17 pickup.

Originally ordered on the night of the Keynote.

I had the exact opposite experience with the keyboard. The Apple store I visited yesterday – to pickup a couple TB3 to TB2 adapters, yes it has begun – had the 13" non-touch bar to play with. I brought up TextEdit and Terminal to try some thing things and I have to say the keyboard is going to be great, took me typing one sentence to appreciate the lower travel. I guarantee I will be typing faster on this thing. Imagine a butterfly flitting over the butterfly keyboard ;)

Umm..they aren't reviews. Neither of those guys have even touched the new MacBook Pros. They are just video rants. Like we get here at MR in text form.

Here is a review by someone who has actually used the machine for a week. Doesn't fit with the entitled whiner view though...

"For me, I love it and I think most people will do too... once they actually touch it."

Good point. I have edited the wording in the original post to reflect this. One of the videos is an opinion piece (not a rant). The other one is definitely a rant, but a pretty darn funny one.

I've also been hearing pretty good things about the keyboard, much to my relief.

How are people who dislike the removal of features "entitled whiners?" exactly? I mean, if you liked Toyotas and then idiots took over and removed their ability to make left-hand turns, wouldn't that be deserving of some criticism?

My understanding is that these machines fall under the festive season returns period. So we have until mid January to return them.

Given I have not seen this machine etc, I have pre-ordered with the Assumption of evaluating and seeing it for the first time, something that could have been avoided if apple had units in store.

I assume there will be a considerable returns once people use the machines and decide on the price/value ration.

Im almost certain ill go for a 2015 machine just for the cost here.....but as you said, Apple gave me no choice to see this unit they expect me to pay $$$$$$$ for.

So I plan to give it a good test drive and post reviews / comparisons for other users here who are undecided .

After playing with one in-store, I assume there will be very few returns once people use the machine and decide on the price/value ratio.
