I just saw the touchbar rMBP in a sealed glass case in the Apple retail store. It looks really nice (aesthetically). But I already know it's gonna suck because I tried the non-touchbar version... The keyboard is trash, like the retina MacBook's. They made it super shallow, so the keys almost don't push down at all when you press them, making it incredibly hard to type on unless your fingernails have just been trimmed. Even then, I can't imagine it being very good because it feels like typing on an iPad screen. Darn. MacBooks keyboards used to be among the best on the market, and now they're among the worst.

The Apple Pencil with iPad, on the other hand, was pretty impressive, but I have no use for it. I guess I'll be buying a used 2015 rMBP eventually. :(
To each their own, I personally really liked the keyboard when I tried it in store on the non-touch bar version.

Is there a moderator that can throw this reply in the political section ?

refurbished section keeps selling out on select items like 15" MBP 13" MBA iPadAir2.

The keyboard on the new MBP's is exactly like the 12" macbook. For professionals they maybe able to justify the exorbitant price increase. Waiting for the new models to hit the refurbished section in a year or less is an option also

No, it's not. Why would you post blatantly incorrect information? Similar yes, but it is not "exactly like", they updated the mechanism.

Ah, mine too. But the estimated arrival is still "not available at this time" so no telling if it's still on track for the 14th or not. Guess we'll find out soon.

Mine still has no estimate but it hit Louisville this morning:

Louisville, KY, United States 11/13/2016 9:57 A.M. Arrival Scan

So probably will still be delivered by the end of the day Monday.

MY 13" Macbook Pro with Touchbar JUST SHIPPED! Should be here the 16th!!! Can't wait!!!

After entering the "Preparing for Shipment" stage on Thursday, the first wave of MacBook Pros with Touch Bars have begun shipping to customers for delivery next week. While Apple is quoting Wednesday, November 16 as the estimated delivery date, UPS is telling some customers that they can expect their new MacBooks on Monday, November 14.

macbookprotouch-800x453.png

When the Touch Bar MacBook Pros became available for pre-order on October 27 customers received shipping estimates ranging from November 17 to November 25, making UPS' delivery estimates a couple days earlier than expected. Thus far, the majority of the MacBook Pros that have begun shipping have been 15-inch models and custom orders, according to MacRumors readers who have notified us of their shipping status.

Many 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar orders still still haven't shipped, according to MacRumors readers. It's unclear when these models will begin shipping, but it could happen shortly after the 15-inch and custom-ordered MacBook Pros begin their transit.

The new MacBook Pros sold out quickly, with shipping estimates moving from 2 to 3 weeks to 3 to 4 weeks hours after they went on sale. Current shipping estimates are 4 to 5 weeks. Apple's Phil Schiller said that the company has received more online orders for the new MacBook Pro than any previous model. Slice Intelligence sales estimates suggest the new model has already outsold all competing laptops in 2016.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar starts at $1,799 while the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar starts at $2,399.

Those interested in tracking their orders and discussing their configurations and shipping status can join our dedicated MacBook Pro pre-order shipping thread.

Imagine a keyboard for $150 with the TouchBar built in and TouchID....

Add on accessory for any Mac... Take my money.

Apple will have to take my money, too, because once I get used the new keyboard, going back and forth to the current or previous gen Magic Keyboard on my desk is going to be tough! 1st world problem, for sure :)

If I open the box up and return within a week do I have to pay a restocking fee? I didn't cancel my order in time and Apple has shipped it. Trying to decide if I really want to keep it or continue to use my 3 year retina MBP a little while longer. I'd like to run some of my own benchmarks to see if its worth keeping.

[doublepost=1479061530][/doublepost]Mine hasn't budged. Still showing a Dec 13 arrival.

The Steve Jobs I know wouldn't have been married to any particular technology. He said it best - you decide on the end user experience you want the consumer to have, then work backwards to determine how best to provide that experience. If Magsafe meets that need, then include it in. If and when Magsafe no longer meets that need, excise it like a malign tumour, regardless of how awesome a piece of tech it may be or how much money has been sunk into developing it.

USB-C simply isn't compatible with Magsafe, so one had to give. You can't say that USB-C is the future and tout its versatility while still setting aside dedicated ports for charging or data transfer.

Apple wants to push wireless headphones, not lightning ones. Save for the puzzling delay in the release of the AirPods, I haven't seen anything that contradicts this stance of theirs.

We can only wait and see, since the 15" mbps aren't out yet.

All the points you mentioned are simply a by-product of Apple's relentless pursuit towards making technology more personal and portable, not due to cost-cutting at all costs.

The glowing logo is gone because the screen is too thin. We already saw it with the MacBook.

A smaller chassis, smaller battery and fewer (albeit more versatile) ports are all there to enable a thinner and lighter device, not to shave a few dollars off the final build cost.

If anything, I feel it says a lot that Apple is not afraid to get rid of iconic Apple features (magsafe, startup chime, glowing Apple Logo). Think about it - it would have been so easy to just do nothing, leave them in and avoid all this backlash. Why go through all that effort engineering new alternatives and workarounds and risk angering your current user base if you didn't think there was some merit and benefits to them?

Perfectly said.

Does anyone else think the touch bar is cheesy and stupid and gimmicky and slows down productivity and is a stupid little trend that people will get over very quickly and not worth the extra $600 and dongles and dongles and dongles?
Have you used the touch bar? Be honest.

After playing with one in-store, I assume there will be very few returns once people use the machine and decide on the price/value ratio.

You have to remember I'm in the UK. The price/value ration means it better be one heck of an upgrade.

I'm actually excited that they began to ship. Now I can eagerly wait for unboxings and reviews. It's the best part following any announcement ... until you receive the device yourself :p:p

Has anyone tried iOS dev work with one of the base 13" non touch models? With two USB c ports this thing seems to me like it would be impossible to use, need a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and my device plugged in to push builds to iTunes connect. Even on my current 2015 13" MacBook Pro with two usbs this is impossible without disconnecting something and it has an hdmi out.

The touch bar on a pro model seems like a misstep to me, I'm a professional software engineer and don't see anything I could use this for, are any professionals (who this product line is supposed to be for) actually excited about the touch bar?

The only non-trivial job I could think of would be scrubbing through video? But I'm not even sure this was a problem before.

I'm still waiting for a solid development oriented machine, Mac mini upgrade please.

Why are these things always reported for every new Apple product? Is this really newsworthy? Slow news day? Stop the presses....Apple is shipping it's new item to customers.
A lot of Macrumors readers like me, may have bought one and want to at least get the first update regarding the shipment. I got the 3-4 week wait so now I know I have another week
Why would you think this is fake? Because he does not 'look' like an Apple engineer and speaks a foreign language.. You need more than that to convince me this is fake.
or if you have a person who actually speak Spanish to translate. I took 3 years (3 years ago) and nothing in there seemed like he was talking about computers in the first place.

For some it is good information - I am for one waiting to decide to buy one after I have some real user experiances with the machine.

I'm curious why the review embargo hasn't been lifted yet. I know members of the tech community have review models with the touchbar. But I haven't seen their official write ups yet.

That's the beauty of USB-C. With so much bandwidth available, you can use ALL those devices on a single port.

The keyboard initially felt a bit weird when I tried it on the 13" in the store. I still managed to hit 99 WPM on a typing test on the first attempt, as compared to ~110 WPM on my own rMBP. I think I could get used to the shallow travel. Brain and fingers just need to readjust over a few weeks.
I was the same. I used the MacBook keyboard for a little while and found it actually not bad at all. The improvements they made on the mbp keyboard are fantastic in comparison.
