Just saying, Face-ID in iPhone 13 is getting tested with masks and all sunglasses, so we could see it at launch or a software update, and Apple is not really behind the competition as no company has dual-authentication, however, Apple should've had dual-authentication in iPhones as they clearly have the resources for it, however, timing could be a concern too, overall, a bit disappointed in Apple, but I guess the tradeoffs are balanced, so, I am really just disappointed in all smartphone companies not making dual-authentication possible, it would be so useful
I'm using Samsung S21 and it has both Face Recognition and fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone. It's very convenient.

And again, if under screen is not ready, put it in the power button just like iPad air. Just get it done already.

Default face recognition on Android is not considered to be secure. It's not at the same biometric level as FaceID. It can be used to unlock phone, but it doesn't pass security requirements for other things like banking apps. So far, I believe there are only 2 Android phones ever released that have something similar to FaceID, the Pixel 4 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

I have bought every iPhone until the 8 (my current phone) since this is the last version that has a fingerprint scanner. Was really looking forward to the under the screen fingerprint scanner but will hold off yet again. My wife has an iPhone 11 and using it for Apple Pay is a pain. This may be the last straw as I move on to an android device.

I would be happy to accept a physical home button with Touch ID. No need to hide it below the screen. Still back on track to get the 13 nonpro.

Why is it a pain for your wife using Apple Pay? Masks aren’t mandated here (where I live) but I wear one indoors anyway. About 1 minute before I have to authenticate with Apple Pay, I take off the mask quickly authenticate and put it back on. Not ideal, but I’m not going to android because of a lack of a fingerprint reader.

Well Apple is not going to sell me any new Phone as i am still using my iphone 7 plus 256GB.
Since there is no upgrade possible which does include the touch id.
Why i do not want face id, you clearly never shop with your phone do you, in my country you can pay at any shop with your phone. Those pay terminals are tiny and are often placed on top of high counters or behind the most awefull places, especially because they are small. When you need to put your face in front of a camera i can promise you you will need to shrink to about 10 cm in size todo so.
The touch id does not have that problem all the machines and places they put that tiny devices in to pay with your phone are fairly easy to keep your phone near and put your finger on the sensor.
So why i do not upgrade to a iphone se then ...
A) it has nothing i need which the 7 plus already has, B) there is no better battery life time or any future which makes it better in fact most complain that the battery lifetime is shorter. I do not give damn what camera it has i never use it besides for sending proof to certain postal firms about their destructive behaviour on packages.
So in short this far i see Apple only selling new models which does not sport anything better or worthwhile new futures i actually can use. Wifi 6 nobody needs it besides junks with a house full with toys and useless products.
The new 5G is not even used in our country because the lead owner only allows its own customers to use it at half the speed it actually is able to function and you pay a fortune for that half speed.
So in a short period i seen all new models appear which actually really have nothing USEFULL new futures besides a slightly better Camera which i kinda never use.
The only feature Apple was doing great for me is the touch id which helps me with my bad memory, so i do not have to carry a book with passwords and login codes to get into my sites or whatever.
Yes even the pin code from my bankpas i can't remember sometimes, so for me touch id is a life safer and handy for everything login to sites, control if its me really a breeze. So yes i hate the Face crap its worthless and really often works flunky i actually got access to my friends phone and i REALLY do not look like him at all, i can tell you he was shocked and went instant to the apple store to get his money back. So do not post it old and is not an option Apple should stop with, but yes there are some minor risks with it especially if nasty persons want something wtih your phone.
But that risk does help neither with face id it still can be used without you liking it. Do i need to explain how i could get to your money or into phone without you liking it....
I am just pointing out there is absolute no reason for not having the touch id on the phone it actually would even be smarter to have touch id or side or the back of the phone than incorperated in the front. but it needs a wider space for really have enough contact so it probably needs to be at the front. for me its the best Apple ever made and i really not gonna buy another Iphone till they come with one else i have to say goodbye to apple and buy a DREADED android.
And believe me i hate android but i kinda feel forced todo it rather sooner than later.

I fully agree its slowly becoming time to leave apple into the paste and move to dreaded android.
With all its flaws and endless spyware.

Not one new model has actually really anything new besides the camera REALLY nothing else.
No real new screen so your simply buying an old phone with a new camera thats it, with a massive chunk of metal on the front which you really gonna hate.. i least i would its massive.

But i guess most customers are wannabee camera people and think they need it and am able todo what pro's can do.
Well lol they still keep using the massive digital camera's simply because they allways are better than your phone and more versatile.

The best camera is always the one you have with you. Most people will always have a smart phone with them, they will not always have a dedicated camera with them.

And most people like taking photos but never used the "massive" cameras. They used simple point and shoot pocket sized ones (using cartridges or instant film in the film era) and these are what smart phones replace, and do very well.

Plenty of Pro photographers will happily use a high end smaert phone camera if that is all they have with them. Because a "massive" camera and a collection of massive lens is not convenient to always have with you. And things worth capturing will not wait until you can go and get the right gear.

And plenty of regular folk will never want to use a "massive" camera for that reason. They are heavy, cumbersome, inconvenient, with decent lenses cost more than the best smartphone, and do not allow you to add a filter and share an image with all your friends around the world in a couple of clicks.

To many people as smart phone is a communication device, whether that happens through voice, text, video, or photo. But the latter two of those require cameras. It is a long time since people wanted a phone that could do nothing more than make voice calls. And they do not want a separate camera that can do nothing more than take photos.

The camera aspects may not be of importance to you, but they are for many people. Which is why that is the area which has seen the most development. Because a smart phone is as much the modern replacement for a dumb phone as it is for an instant camera. And you disdain for people wanting their photos to look good is unfair, and shows a lack of understanding of photography, their expectations, and what the form means to people.

I mean if they include it now what stick will they dangle in front of you to update next year?

It seems as if the your mileage will vary is an accurate description. Seems like there has been a myriad of improvements in iphones since the iphone 7. But if one's use case is email and check facebook, and that works, there really is no need to upgrade. For me the better cameras, better screen, better battery life etc. Made the upgrade worthwhile.

I totally get this is in your opinion, but I disagree on face id. Using apple pay with face id on my xs max is no issue at all. I can verify either though authenticating with my face of passcode about two minutes in advance of when I need to use apple pay.

That totally depends where you live, in my country you will have a huge problem paying because your phone needs to stay close to the pay screen and that means you need to shrink to 10 cm size to get above the screen and under the security screens because there is only at most 20 cm between it and the counter so how do you get your face above the phone. If you move it 1 cm towards you that triggers the pay to be broken. There is no way to pay with face id unless you willing to drive alot of distance to find a shop which does not have Corona screens above the pay processing device in some cases its even impossible for me to pay with my phone... because some have so much sell crap around the terminal that you simply have to pull a fysical card to pay.
Anyway i indeed do not care at all for pictures and never will, i am alone in the world now family wise so nobody has interrest in my pictures at all. So i do not need to keep pictures for anyone.

But i am not the only one who is not happy with Apple its decision to leave it out of the newer models for a long time now. Anyway i am stuck at the 7 till i had enough and make the step back to android and never look back.
Actually that also mean apple looses each time more and more income from me, i am simply closing everything they had me as customer. Today the last they sold me is over also ... bye bye itunes.
So now they get no more income from my part i already bought myself a massive nas where i can store my stuff and do not need any cloud storage anymore either.
Sure i am old school but was in the begin very happy with apple devices, but the recent changes did nothing for me and actually there are really no improvements in batterylife at all. the phones become bigger and use more power so where is the benefit. If you simply say that the lifetime of the battery has improved by the battery power than your mistaken.
My mate has always the latest phones and already was shocked that my 7 plus lasted longer than his 12 pro.
He kept on babbling the same story that it was lasting longer than mine and it does not, sure it depends on how you use it and how often you call and so on. But we tested simply by switching the sim and both used the phone normal as it was my own. It proofed that i was right and he indeed uses it a bit more but my phone lasted longer even while he was cheating.
We did kinda the same things what we do normal and that showed that i do not turn stuff off like he does and do not use flightmode so often as he does. So a brand new phone looses from a ages old phone ......

Unless I’m misunderstanding it appears you may not know you can trigger Face ID Apple Pay about 1:30 before you have to pay for something. Giving you plenty of time to activate Apple Pay.

Well lol that i did not know but i never see any of the people i know with the new iphones pay in shops with their phone.
So i guess its not as handy and easy as you tell anyway i can not explain why its not used by my friends while i use at EVERY situation. So why nobody of my friends pay with the iphone while always use it and some even told me that they where amazed that it worked so easy with my old phone....
Guess Apple really needs to check how many people like face-id for paying ..... and they don't use if with that silly face-id.
Anyway you cant change a old stubborn goat like me, its too much hassle for me and apparently not only for me.

thanks Apple i can save up for paying tax this time.

still no solution to unlocking the phone by face ID with mask on, dare to tell people it's a technology company?? almost 2 years into the pandemic and still unable to provide solution unless u also wears the apple watch. just ridiculous. i can't count how many times i had my hands full of groceries or takeaways or in a crowded underground and had to unlock the phone by entering the passcode. no choice now so have to switch the main driver to samsung. very sad as a long time iphone user.

I guess the SCREAMS WILL BE HEARD when ABYSMAL SALES OF iOINK 13 will be debated... look for A MAJOR DEPARTURE FROM APPLE...

I mean if they include it now what stick will they dangle in front of you to update next year?

If they had included it now it would have been the difference which made me buy an iPhone 13 Pro. My very old iPhone has needed replacing since early summer, but I waited for the new model to be announced in expectation of buying it.

Instead I am now buying a refurbed phone from a third party, so will not be looking for a new phone for several years. Which means a bunch more years with Apple not getting any money from me. (And I still have around £50 of credit in my iTunes account from a previous promotion, so even if I buy apps they will only be getting their own money back!)

Maybe I am not typical, there are plenty of people will buy the new model every year regardless of what Apple do. But if they constantly hold things back to next year then I will never buy anything, because there will always be new and desired features, and there will aways be a next year.

I prefer Touch ID and that was way before the pandemic & no USB C, this is not going to be upgrade year after all.. Apple milking it for one more year, which honestly I don’t mind waiting for.. Nothing new in this model I can’t wait for.

Does Face Recognition authenticate for financial transactions without ancillary authentication?

I haven’t tried as it’s for leisurely checking social media, browsing websites, Spotify n stuff at the moment and able to unlock with mask on and no need to enter passcode is a much smoother user experience. I think that’s why Im finding myself more likely to pickup the S21 when I need a phone to do sth. So maybe I’ll switch financial transaction tasks to the S21 very soon.

I don’t think Apple cares there are customers who would purchase their products sooner if additional tech was included. Apple doesn’t seem to want to throw tech in phones, like android, until the tech is ready.

Consumers never win. There is always the next great thing thing coming out next year.
