For some reason, a natural titanium unit became available at one of the Apple Stores, so I reserved it for pickup. I don’t want a direct swap for the one I currently have with touch issues that I am returning tomorrow, since I’d prefer to have the two-week return window again in case the new one has the same problem. Hoping I get lucky like some of you and receive one without any touch screen issues!

I am not sure if it’s hardware or software but we won’t know until 18.0.1 is released. My 14 day window runs out on Saturday so I’ve ordered a new phone…..order time is three weeks.. if 18.0.1 cones out and fixes the issue then I will cancel my order. If 18.0.1 isn’t released or fails to fix the issue then i will initiate a return in my current phone on the 14th day. By the time, the returns packaging arrives and I take a few days to package it up and send the phone back, my new one should be on the way

I don't know I feel like you maybe right on this. I really do think it's hardware. If it's software, how can one have issue while the others don't if they had been reset completely and no backup was restored. It just doesn't make sense.

Because Apple is using different manufacturers (Samsung and LG) for the displays. It could be an issue that they don't have the same calibration/palm detection algorithm and that is why some phones are unaffected. I still believe this can be fixed with software.

What we need from Apple is communications. Real simple. Communicate with the customer and that was actually relieve some of the anxiety that some of us have. But they won’t do this for some reason. Why? Arrogance perhaps, but for me it’s stupidity and lack of maturity. So I sent mine back. This won’t solve apples communication issue one bit, but at least I did my part.

I also requested the return but I'm not understanding one thing, with the return I will be refunded €809 because I purchased the new one by exchanging the old iPhone which they have already refunded to my account, doing the calculations with the value of the exchange refunded is €1489 but in the email it tells me that I will be reimbursed for the value of the trade-in via gift card, I don't understand, will they still reimburse me beyond the €809?

They have to give you your full value back. Otherwise, they would have taken a phone from you and given you back just a portion of the money. Hence they are giving you a gift card for the value of the trade in device.

As an aside, I’m having to order my third Pro Max now. Though I have no touchscreen issues on my current Pro Max device, I have a really prominent red tinge on the left side of the screen when the brightness is low and I’m looking at a white or light gray surface. 🤦‍♂️ Honestly, this is the worst QC I have seen on Apple devices since I began ordering them about a decade back.

so they are giving me back the value of the new iPhone, €809 on my card and the remainder on a gift card right?

I am scheduled to get my Pro Max within the next two weeks.

1. What specifically should I look for with regards to the possible screen issues? Lag between pressing a button on screen and it responding? Other?

2. For those who have these issues, were they present as soon as you got your phone, or did they develop over time?

Thanks!

My advice is to just use the phone. You will notice if something is off. If you don’t then just enjoy your new beast.

In my case the screen is generally not as responsive as prior iPhones. The typing is particularly bad. You have to press harder and many keystrokes are ignored forcing you to repeat. I noticed the problem immediately upon setting up the phone. I had installed a spigen screen protector which is something I've always done with my new iPhones so my initial thought was did Spigen mess things up? they're usually pretty good. I went online and founds scores of people with similar problems. I contacted Apple and they blamed my screen protector so I took it off. The problem persisted so I put it in its box and shipped it back.

Yeah, as stated above, you notice the issue right away. If you really want to test it, go to the Notes and start typing up a new note. Just type normally whatever stream of thoughts you happen to have. You will notice that some keystrokes are just ignored. Or appear to be severely delayed, or the screen seems like it just randomly doesn’t respond to touch input any more. It’s very obvious because it feels so incredibly unnatural and annoying.

I have had several times where my display is not responding to touch, it is for sure a real issue on mine.
I actually recorded the non-responsiveness and showed it to the manager at the local Apple Store yesterday. First question I got was “do you have a screen protector on” but I didn’t so the answer was “oh wow, strange”. It’s a real problem and it’s not on all devices.
