It’s fixed for me. But I didn’t have any touch sensitivity issues, only the dead spot next to the camera control. I also don’t use a screen protector or case (16PM).
I can still replicate it on left side not only near Camera Control button but anywhere. Try left side?

Is it something hardware related that they tried to fix by changing something in the algorithm to pass it as software issue but it’s truly hardware?

Redditors with the 16 PM are still reporting keyboard issues after the 18.0.1 update on this post, check comments. Apparently people even tried taking it to the Apple Store and diagnostics came out to be fine. Maybe it is software since someone with a 15 PM reported the same issue on iOS 18 and downgrading to 17 fixed it for them. Sigh.

My games that were almost unplayable with 18.0 now run fine with 18.0.1. Much better touch sensitivity. Perhaps not quite as good as 15PM on iOS 17.

The issue hasn't been totally fixed for me. Typing is still off! There's just something wrong here. It's better with the update but it's nowhere near being totally fixed. The screen is less sensitive and still requires a firmer touch to register. I'm so disappointed. I'm no conspiracy theorist but something tells me they did some software trickery to ameliorate faulty hardware.

Agreed however if this is a faulty hardware issue, it wouldn’t be occurring on the 15 PM (or even older iPhones). Not sure though.

Games feel fine but something is still a little off with keyboard. Most noticeable when quickly tapping the backspace on keyboard.

I’m glad to hear that your phones are working good now. I returned my 16 Pro Max and was able to purchase a different color, still the 16 Pro Max. It works flawlessly out of the box. I’ve installed a screen protector, and it continues to function properly, unlike the one I returned, which didn’t work properly especially with the screen protector. Unfortunately, I can’t upgrade to the 18.0.1 version because I’m currently running the developer beta version however the keyboard is definitely 100% better than the one I returned (both running the same developer version 18.1. beta 5

after a few reboots and a trip to the Apple Store for diagnosis, the phone responsiveness seems a little better. While it’s not as responsive as my old 14PM it’s a little better than before the update. I did buy a belkin protector from apple, it seems to be a little more responsive. I did put my old protector on a demo unit they had in the store and it too wasn’t responsive with the Esr protector. I hate settling for mediocre performance but I already traded in my wife’s 13PM, so I’m kinda stuck.

Out of curiosity, does that ESR protector have the black borders around it or is the whole thing clear?

So they’re 2 manufacturers for the screens? Wonder if there is a way to figure out which screen we have?

It’s funny because the apple techs really didn’t know about any touch screen issues or the 18.0.1 update and what it’s addressing. He did see the missed taps I was showing, but the diagnostic test came back good. Verizon would have replaced it, but they didn’t have any in stock.

I don’t think it’s a hw issue so a replacement wouldn’t do much

If it’s a software issue, I hope they bump up the sensitivity a little more.
Go to keyboard settings, delete the bilingual keyboard, just leave one type of keyboard, I tested and found that typing is more accurate without delay.

My issue is more with the overall sensitivity of the screen. The update helped, but it’s still far from the sensitivity of my 14PM.

It did for me. Running the same software as I stated above. This one is much much better by a long shot. I can now type on my keyboard like normal finally after being so stressed out with the first iPhone 16 Pro Max I had for almost two weeks.

I am still having intermittent issues when pressing the back space on the keyboard. Anybody else still having it? It happens when you press it multiple times.

I somehow feel it hasn’t been solved completely but one things that did get solved is the scrolling issue when the thumb is placed next to the camera button.

Please let me know so that I can decide if I need to return it.

It fixed the scrolling issue caused by placing the thumb near Camera Control BUT I can still replicate it on the left side with my thumb placed almost anywhere on the left edge. I tested it on the Settings page. Going to Apple Store tomorrow
