This issue has been the thing holding me back from upgrading up to this point

This release has been chaotic. I spoke to a seller at Apple Store who told me that they have never had more issues with a new product. Right now buying an iPhone 16 Pro is a lottery and it should not be like that.

They better get their s*it together and fix phones that are affected.

And 17 Pro must be a smoother release.

Yeah just today I've found this link on a banding with night photography. Ofc I understand it is a marginal use scenerio but like to get a nice unit and just have a feeling that I spent my money correctly I have to:

-check for touch problems
-check for screen uniformity
-check for faulty camera

Where are the times where things were much easier ;/
forgot about hte link sry:

I think it's a software issue, I don't have such problems while playing Genshin Impact, I was also in the apple store where they checked the phone and no found problems with the hardware. They told me to wait for an update.
It's not that annoying, I can type normally. 99% of the time everything works normally. It just sometimes doesn't catch a one touch.

Of course, an Apple employee may be wrong or lie, but I will wait for further software updates and if the problem is not resolved, I will return the product for repair or replacement.

Hi everyone! I’ve been quietly following this thread as I’ve had the exact same issue since purchasing my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Today, I wanted to post an Instagram Story with some background music, but I encountered a bug where the song’s duration would consistently reset to 8 seconds, despite setting it to 15 seconds. I decided to delete and reinstall Instagram, and the music limit issue was resolved. Surprisingly, the phone has also become much more responsive when typing, and I haven’t missed any touch inputs since this morning (I live in Germany).

I’m not entirely sure if the two issues are connected, but I’m quite surprised by the improvement. My phone wasn’t performing well at all, even with iOS 18.1 RC. If you’re using Instagram, it might be worth giving this a try!
May I know if you are using screen protector no matter before and after reinstalling IG? thanks!

so you too sometimes don't take a touch and you have to touch it the second time

Yes, sometimes the screen still doesn't register touch. I've noticed that it happens most often in the corners of the screen, near the edges, but for others it happens in different places. People on Reddit say it has to do with the new algorithm that rejects accidental touches, because the new screen one has smaller bezels, and that it’s software related.

ios 18.1 is coming out today, we'll see if it's solved

Opinions on 18.1 are divided, I've seen posts that it helped some, while others didn't. But even people who received their phones in the last few days or even hours also have problems with touch, so exchanging it for another one may help, but it's still to lottery.

but with yours they did a firmware update...
For sure they did something that we (normal users) cannot do because when I got the phone back the screen has a completely different calibration. I almost suspect they did a screen replacement but didn't list it on the repair log.

I almost wish I would have had some micro scratch or something on the old screen so I could prove 100% that they did replace the screen. Calibration can of course also be firmware also but that is something new for me if that is the case.

They replaced the screen but wrote that they did a software update. You can see how absurd that sounds. They have to write the truth about what they did, they can't just write whatever they want. It's possible that they updated some display driver for you that will be available for the rest of the users in one of the future updates.

Of course. I am just 100% transparent and share all my findings with you to draw your own conclusions.

Having sent many iPhones in for repair, I have so far never got it back with a completely different screen calibration unless the display was actually replaced. This is my experience.

As I said - it is 100% possible that all they did is software.

in the incoming iOs 18.1 do not mention anything about the touch in the changelog.

The screen protector makes a huge difference. You have to tap much more firmly compared to a bare screen.

In general, missed taps are, in my opinion, a software issue that gets amplified when combined with the screen protector.

Do they? It is a warranty repair and not a paid one meaning the way of bringing the product up to a desired by a customer spec is up to them. They can communicate but they can easily not at all. Ofc if you would pay for the repair, they need to give you the exact range of work and parts you have to pay for.

I don't see here any mention of Apple being obliged to communicate anything. They are obliged to give you a fully working product.

@jajo.j Out of curiosity, is there any chance that they did replace the whole device without mentioning it? In short, are you sure you get the same device repaired and not replaced?

It still has the same serial number and one small scratch on the frame so I know it is the same device.

Hoping the second update to 18.1 RC has some tweaks for the touchscreen.

It looks like the new iOS 18.1 update fixed the touch screen issues. I tried to type some sentences, and it worked way better than iOS 18.1 RC and before.
