Nope. My iPhone 16 Pro Max behaves perfectly from the touch point of view.Did you experience issues BEFORE RC2 update ?
I can't remember-- are you using a screen protector? On your family's phone that works, is it using a screen protector? I never use screen protectors. I wonder if screen protectors can cause issues on screens with tiny bezels if the screen protectors don't 100% cover the active area of the screen...maybe if the active area isn't fully covered, it could cause some slight capacitance variance that could mess up the screen's ability to detect touch elsewhere? I dont knowFor me, this new update, don’t will change nothing on reactive screen and os.
Perfetto analysis! So i've been following this post for a while. I've currently gone through three iPhone 16 Pro max's so i can chime in here a little.
- First iPhone 16 Pro max 256gb black (unlocked tmobile) variant. 18.1 and 18.1.1 and battery code of September. No screen stutters or delay. Everything worked fine. No issues with any IOS update or screen protectors.
- Second iPhone 16 Pro max 256gb black (unlocked) variant. 18.1, 18.1.1, 18.2 RC1 and RC2. Serial number starting with LG and battery build date of August. I tried everything and the phone just throttles, stutters, lags, doesn't detect input in multiple apps, keyboard, runs extra hot etc. Noticeably slower. Tried restarts, force restart, DFU mode on PC to restore IOS, did the remote chat check with apple care, setup as new, copied from icloud, setup with cable. 18.2 RC2 helped A LITTLE. Used no screen protector, ZAGG, Spigen etc. No difference.
- Third iPhone 16 Pro max 256gb black (unlocked) variant. 18.1, 18.1.1, 18.2 RC1 and RC2. Serial number starting with F9 and battery build date of October. Phone is amazing. Snappy, no stutters, no lag, no miss clicks etc. Using with a spigen screen protector on 18.2RC2 right now.
Based on this im convinced its a hardware issue. It almost feels like a bad batch of RAM in some models. Not sure if its a screen issue. The stutter and lag makes me think its bad RAM. Curious what everyone else thinks.
where do you read the battery code? to understand the production batch. So i've been following this post for a while. I've currently gone through three iPhone 16 Pro max's so i can chime in here a little.

Yes bad Ram caused panc error, no touch issue, or i hope thisBad RAM would have caused many other problems, including several crashes
I only say RAM / memory because of the stutters the phone has. Whether it be ram management or physically bad memory. The “dead” spots in the screen seem to only be in certain parts at one time where other parts of the phone like keyboard or control panels work or having a freezing issue in an app then immediately switching to another or opening keyboard sometimes temporarily helps. Force restarting the phone also seems to alleviate some issues temporarily. And some things like keyboard typing issues don’t seem to be from dead spots in the screen but from the phone not being able to keep up. I guess it could be a combined issue of bad screens and poorly optimized software with bugs. The L serial number iPhone got a little bit better with 18.2RC but feels like a different phone then the one I have with the F serial number.Bad RAM would have caused many other problems, including several crashes
Interesting. My phone has a battery build date in July. The serial number starts with F and with RC2 I have no problems with touches. With the RC1 I had very few and with the 18.1.1 almost nothing. Definitely interesting. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent pattern of faults. It’s just odd how two identical iPhones can have an issue and the other doesn’t. Same software same serial number run. Etc. Hopefully Apple can fix this in a software update. But I’m thinking it’s somewhat hardware.Interesting. My phone has a battery build date in July. Usually when people think of hardware failure, most can't imagine what could fail inside an iPhone to cause issues like this. But just as a point of note, watch this video at around 2:15:Definitely interesting. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent pattern of faults. Here a user changed the phone once and the second phone changed the screen for a new one... and continue with the issues...Usually when people think of hardware failure, most can't imagine what could fail inside an iPhone to cause issues like this. It could simply be something as basic as that ribbon cable or cable connector (or a batch of bad ribbon cables). Everything that the touchscreen does relies on that flimsy ribbon cable, and if it's bad (or it's not fully seated in the connector on both ends), it could cause itermittent issues with the touch screen. I have an friend who's an electrical engineer, and when I told him about my issues on my old 15 Pro Max, the first thing he suggested was that it could have been a bad run of ribbon cables.
But like I mentioned a while back, getting Apple to diagnose itermittent failures like this is nearly
impossible...
Anecdotally, I had two 15 Pro Max phones that wouldn't swipe down notifications, and several I tested in Best Buy around launch had the same problem...but I know that ALL 15 Pro Max phones weren't affected. Here a user changed the phone once and the second phone changed the screen for a new one... and continue with the issues...
Yes, I changed my phone after 1 month and last week I asked Change screen, I will also OCD but I see every small thing. Here a user changed the phone once and the second phone changed the screen for a new one... and continue with the issues...
Yes the issue is very complex this time.Anecdotally, I had two 15 Pro Max phones that wouldn't swipe down notifications, and several I tested in Best Buy around launch had the same problem...but I know that ALL 15 Pro Max phones weren't affected.
Part of the problem is if it IS hardware, we don't know:
A) How widespread is the issue... is it thousands of units, or million?
B) Is it bad components from a particular manufacturing run? Or is it bad components being produced constantly in every production run?
C) Are the bad components part of the screen assembly, part of the phone assembly, or the connector assembly? Or a combination of all 3?
D) Is it due to a component that's not faulty, but instead certain components being produced out of spec, and the software is glitching out because it's not seeing a configuration that it expects to see?
We also have users who have changed phones and it's rectified the issue as well. So it's a very complex issue

I also have OCD with this topic. Today we had to make a birthday list and I passed my phone to my 18-year-old daughter to take note, make the list, take some photos and other things for 1 hour or so. I was by her side. When she finished I asked her if she had noticed any touch problem with the phone... she told me that I was crazy 🤪. The phone was perfect.Yes, I changed my phone after 1 month and last week I asked Change screen, I will also OCD but I see every small thing.

nothing. I bought it with the wrong payment method and couldn’t switch it. So they recommended I return and re purchase. Which was fine with me until I got stuck with that dud!So what was wrong with your first iPhone 16 PM ?
That’s terrible. Sorry you had to go through all that hassle. Especially when the first one was good.nothing. I bought it with the wrong payment method and couldn’t switch it. So they recommended I return and re purchase. Which was fine with me until I got stuck with that dud!
