meh, unless you use your phone for the latest games just keep the old one, take the lower bill and buy an ipad mini

Amazon main trade-in shows ship within 45 days but when I submit mine it says I need to ship it by 9/17. Is this a mistake?

no they dont do 30 day price locks and typically want it shipped to them 7 to 10 days.

The Verizon Trade-In program is legit. Spoke to a representative on the phone and in store today.

Either in store or online, you can trade in a 4, 4s, 5, 5c, or 5s for $200 dollar credit.

And while I'm using my 5c at the moment, I have a good conditioned 4s as my back up phone that I'm going to trade in for the 6.

There's no way I'd get a $200 trade-in value for a 4s right now. I just hope I get there on time next Friday to do this in store.

I'm getting conflicting stories on twitter and here w/ att's trade in program. I think i'll still be pre-ordering through apple tonight and take my old iPhone 4s into the store and see what they say.

I don't believe it's trade in credit on the spot towards your new device. I think it's a promo card, some which have said expires in 90 days and can only be used purchasing products at an att retail store. no where else.

The website says the promotion card you receive for trading in is "good towards the purchase of products and services." I called ATT. They confirmed that the credit can also be applied to future cell phone bills.

I tried looking at my upgrade options with ATT but is was only offering me to upgrade my phone on the Next program where I turn in my existing phone and gt the 6 for free. dont think that is a good deal. Trying to figure out how to get around that. Anyone have ideas?

Try checking this on Apple's site. I only get a message that I'm eligible for Next, but on Apple.com I get more detail -- i.e., I'm eligible for an early upgrade on 9/21/14.

Anyone think a craig's list add for a *perfect* flawless unlocked iPhone 5s 32gig @ $600 is unreasonable? I'd include the Spigen case it is in and an OtterBox I bought, but stopped using for it's bulk. Still has it's belt clip too.

Has a year left on AppleCare+, as well.

Might be a little ambitious. Don't know where you are, but in my area it looks like similar phones are selling for about $450 (based on average listing price).

yea I got clarification w/ att via twitter just right now. same thing, only those with the Next plan cannot pay their bill with the promotion card. per @ATTCustomerCare

the terms and conditions are pretty clear that it is a promotional gift card with a 90 day life and it limits it to in store or online purchases.

do the in store apple values match the online values?

Likewise. I don't see anything on AT&T Wireless that confirms any trade-in value for an older iPhone. When I click the upgrade button I get a message that I need to call AT&T or visit a store to learn my options. I am long off contract, so that is not the reason.

Same to me - I just tried and it came back with 09/19 as the returned date - not enough turn around time - I don't have another mini-sim iphone to tie me over before the 6 comes in.

Where are you finding this? I don't see it.

Meh, no thanks. I'll get more money for my factory unlocked 5s on eBay rather than through trading it in.

The value quoted for any device is only valid for the duration of the trade-in transaction.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, AT&T, ITS VENDORS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR MORE THAN THE TRADE-IN VALUE OF THE DEVICE. IN NO EVENT SHALL AT&T, ITS VENDORS, AND SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, WHETHER FORESEEABLE OR UNFORESEEABLE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, ARISING OUT OF ANY TRADE-IN OF YOUR DEVICE.
In exchange for the AT&T Promotion Card or credit that you are receiving, you agree any disputes regarding this Trade-In program are governed by Section 2 of the AT&T Wireless Customer Agreement regarding the resolution of disputes by binding arbitration, which terms can be found at att.com/wirelesslegal and are incorporated herein by reference. Section 2 provides in part that we each agree to resolve those disputes through binding arbitration or small claims court instead of in courts of general jurisdiction and that any arbitration will take place on an individual basis; class arbitrations and class actions are not permitted. For any non-frivolous claim that does not exceed $75,000, AT&T will pay all costs of the arbitration. Moreover, in arbitration you are entitled to recover attorneys' fees from AT&T to at least the same extent as you would be in court. In addition, under certain circumstances (as explained in Section 2), AT&T will pay you more than the amount of the arbitrator's award and will pay your attorney (if any) twice his or her reasonable attorneys' fees if the arbitrator awards you an amount that is greater than what AT&T has offered you to settle the dispute.

Also, I just checked Apple's website -- $600 is ambitious considering the unlocked 32gig iPhone 5s brand new is itself $600. So clearly I have to knock off, probably $100. I'm outside of Chicago, in a big suburb.

Amazon seems to be offering $400 for my phone right now, or 80% of (let's assume) $500 max value. Not bad, but that's credit not cash. But, then I do buy a lot from Amazon.

I have a locked-in offer from Gazelle for:

iPhone 5 32GB: $190 (or $199.50 Amazon gift card)
iPhone 5S 32GB: $310 (or $325.50 Amazon gift card)

We have one of each. I got an offer on the 5S by accident and followed up with a request for an offer for the 5.

Offers have already dropped to $170 and $285 today. I just have to send the phone in before 10/10. But, I don't think I will do it: we'll give the iPhone 5 to my daughter to upgrade her phone.

As a result, I'm not going to worry about pre-ordering so I get the new phone in time to accept the offer from Gazelle. I'll wait a few months... probably just before the holidays.

Thanks, but I think you misunderstood my question. According to AT&T, I have to call or visit a store to find out if I have any upgrade options. These credits for trading in an older iPhone don't seem to be documented anywhere on their website.

Just checked AT&T trade-in site Minimum for iPhone 5 16GB is $200 included the $50 bonus..

I'm gonna check again in early Oct to see if $200 reduces or not ...

Likewise. I don't see anything on AT&T Wireless that confirms any trade-in value for an older iPhone. When I click the upgrade button I get a message that I need to call AT&T or visit a store to learn my options. I am long off contract, so that is not the reason.

I put a Att trade-in link in my earlier post -- Just put the Serial # of phone etc into the site answer couple Q's and hit continue

gotcha. if you are not going to their NEXT program then you have to wait until your contract expires. at least that is what i am seeing on both ATT when i log into my account and on Apple when i do the check upgrade availability.

use to be they would let you upgrade at the promotional/subsidized cost after 18 months, but the are pushing NEXT to make more cash.

Curious if anyone knows. If I go into the Apple store to trade in my phone for credit on new phone, and that new phone is purchased with the Next plan. Does that credit then reduce the total and hence the monthly payments that I will be responsible for? I probably get less value out of it if I trade in to upgrade next year, but I could also possibly pay it outright before then too with the credit applied.

$50 not $200 ...

I put an AT&T trade-in link in my earlier post -- Just put the Serial # of phone etc into the site, answer a couple Q's and hit continue

I found this same link earlier today and when I entered my old (but still pristine) iPhone 4 info it said it was worth a $50 rebate, not $200 ... and I can't find any link on the AT&T site to confirm these $200 trade-ins for the 4/4s/etc., either.

(You'll notice MacRumors posted a link to a Bloomberg article for the AT&T info, which in turn doesn't link to any official AT&T link/post, either.)

What gives, AT&T?

Use the apple store app to check your availability.

Or you can go to the att website. When I look at the view upgrade options it says I can upgrade under the Next plan or I can upgrade with a 2 year contract and a $40 upgrade fee.

If I click on the View Details link under my phone there is a pop-up window that includes a view contract link. That will say when your contract expires (which is the date you can request to unlock your phone).

I did the same thing this year that I did right before the iPhone 5 came out two years ago: I put my old iPhone as a trade-in on Amazon the Monday before the announcement. This time it was an iPhone 5 64GB Verizon in black. Ended up getting about $340 that is price-locked for a week. I just have to send it out by next Monday to get the credit. I'll be without an iPhone from Monday afternoon until Friday morning. The price has already dropped from $340 down to $265, so I feel like that's a decent amount of money saved.

My Retina iPad Mini with LTE will get me through those few days ok. I have an office phone line too. I could always pop a sim in my old Motorola Rokr (which I did in 2012 and it worked fine) but I think I'll pass this time. I mostly text now anyway and have iMessages going on my iMac all day at work. Unfortunately it's impossible to get my original iPhone to activate and I have Verizon now anyway. Actually that means my Rokr probably doesn't work either. Oh well!
