People might as well wait to upgrade if you don’t manage to reserve it. It’d be stupid to get the phone in March only for the new one to be announced in September.

1. (If) The front depth sensor is indeed the bottleneck
2. (If) Many customers care about the OLED display instead of the Face ID and Animoji

The team could have given us:

7s
New Design, 1080p display, Back Touch ID

7s Plus
New Design, 1080p OLED Display, Back Touch ID
64/256GB storage

iPhone Edition
A bit larger 7s with both Touch ID and Face ID
Better Facetime Camera
128/512GB Storage

Now the widely available model has a 4yr old design w/o the OLED display that many want and the iPhone X may not be easy to grab due to Animoji.
No way hate back Touch ID. Would need a holy case.

Psychologically this type of delays and constraints will make people want it more coz they'll think it's rare and hard to get.

NASA and DARPA push tech to the limits. Apple is hacking together a "facial recognition" system that animates poop emojis.
Don’t be lauding NASA, DARPA and such too much. They can’t get difference between metric and English conversions. Had some spectacular failures using wrong measurements.

This isn’t true. Craig Federighi told John Gruber Touch ID under the display was plan B. Gruber also confirmed the same with Apple engineers who said they’ve been working on Face iD for over a year.

Well obviously they're not going to admit if they totally screwed up. We won't know the real story for years.

I suppose Apple should have charged even more for the iPhone X, lol. As someone who has never received a new iPhone beyond the launch date, I'm pretty sure my chances are slim to none that I'll get it on the launch date. Hopefully iPhone Upgrade Program users will have access to a separate pool of stock since we're the most loyal and most of us upgrade every year.

doesn't apple have like $200 billion in the bank? like jesus christ buy some factories, companies, or whatever to get production what it needs to be smh

what you are advocating for is slave labor. what Apple is trying to avoid

Getting something right sometimes takes a bit longer than just schlocking together face ID that can be fooled with a picture, Samsung. You have phone, right now, correct? So use it a bit longer, big deal.

We need some cheese to go along with all, the wine on here. The iPhone cheddar, new gold color for next year.

If true seems Apple did time manage properly esp after the original AW ramp up fiasco. The difference here is Apple has its neck on the line with iPhones being its life blood and current reputation. Can’t help but wonder if this is true how much of Kuo’s tale is of the fish variety. An iPhone X back ordered to April is a disaster that will deflate earnings for several quarters. Apple knows that. Would they risk it on a camera sensor? Seems unlikely.

Another year. Another day of insiders saying shortage. Apple gave an extra months for x. I’m sure they took the constraints into consideration.

Most loyal? Based on signing a payment plan agreement? C’mon. Silly. Some of us here have been using Apple products since, even before maybe, Apple was born. Some of us just like buying outright vs financing. Does that make us less loyal? But why even pretend Apple owes us anything for buying their products other than the product we bought in working condition and upholding its warranty for that product?

I'll just say it right here right now: Facegate is upon us!

you heard it here first.

Customers participating in the annual iPhone upgrade program should be allowed to trade in their iPhone 8 for the iPhone X when it ships next year.

I wish Apple would have not shown the iPhone X and called the iPhone 8 the iPhone 7S. The iPhone X could just have been the iPhone 8 in 2018 with some improvements here and there. No reason to rush it out the door.

What evidence do you have that this is being rushed out the door? As far as I'm concerned, the iPhone X is far from being rushed, and I don't think Apple wants to rush this product and they want this iPhone to be ready when come November 3. Constraint will happen, but given the demand, that's expected.

Not sure which business psychology class you learned that in because that is the opposite of what is shown to be true. We are not talking about a true rarity here like a Faberge egg. It’s a mass produced item that Apple needs to book as many sales as quick as possible. If it puts customers in a virtual corridor to wait for a slow elevator some customers will tire of waiting and leave. Others will take the stairs. Long delays tend to be deflating for consumers who have short attention spans. They’ll find another place to spend drop their coin.

It a Kinect. Thats all it is. how can they mess it up so bad it slows production.

You have to step back and see how pampered we've become. Whining how a miracle of technology isn't instantly in our possession while some people are wondering where their next meal is coming from.

We are just at a different place. Human nature. Maslow's hierarchchy of needs. Doesn’t mean we aren’t concerned about those in need of more basic items.
