The current u.s economy has had little impact due to trump. The seeds were planted before trump became president. The u.s economy has just followed the trend path.

Did you say the same thing when Barry was the President and the economy barely creeped along or were you one of the ones who screamed “It’s Bush’s fault” for eight years.

No need to answer, I know what the truth is.

Presidents in their first year vs. stock market performance. Let's just say Trump isn't the best (as he claimed). We'll see how he does after a few more years of disastrous "leadership." It's kind of funny that it was Icahn who sold all the steel stock a few days ago. Remember when he sold all his AAPL back in 2016 at $100/share? It's now 2018 at $170+/share. He isn't the smartest rich cookie.

Wrong. Trump has been talking about this for decades. His focus used to be on Japan but now more so China, which influences China to do something about NK.

Shame on you for failing to realize why our local industries are failing.
Which part wrong, tariffs are taxes or Trump needs revenue. Tariffs Are taxes, no question about it. Conservatives hate free trade agreements, they loose badly needed taxes in Tarriffs. The engine that drives their agenda. Does not matter who the Evil country is today, they will find one, as one is always needed.

You mean the Rasmussen poll, which consistently gives Republicans and Trump higher numbers than all the other polls? Cherry picking results to try and offset the fact Trump is the worst President in history?
Rasmussen was the only polling company to predict a Trump victory. You're free to listen to whoever you want.

This. We're gonna piss off a bunch of allies before even getting to China. I wonder if he knows we get more steel from Russia? Even GWB tried this and rolled it back in less than 2 years to avoid a harmful trade war.

We elected the dumbest mothereffer out there.

yes we did when we elected Obama but we learned from our mistake and elected Donald Trump to clean up Obama's messes thank god we still have some smart folks in this world it is time America to become the Great Strong country it once was.

Good thing I have a Mac mini and iPhone 6, won't be buying anything new Apple anytime soon.

And to think it's cheaper to build product in China and ship it to the US in fossil-fuel CO2 spewing cargo ships is cheaper than producing them here? Something's fishy....
Fishy?... it's a global economy. Some places have lower wages so countries with more money hire workers there instead... this is not a difficult concept to grasp lol.

literally can't tell if that's a parody post.

A trade war is here....the E.C. in Bruxelles is looking at what they could put tarrifs on from the US now that Trump has started a trade war.....this would be a big help to Samsung smart phones etc. and would affect sales of Mac Computers too.

I am selling all my apple stock.....this cannot end well....it never has in recorded history...

Sorry but no. Are you getting your news on Fox? According to Gallup, Obama never went below 40% in the 8 years of his presidency. Trumps last 2 results were 37 and 39. But Obama spent time in as high as the 60's. Something Trump will never do.

And why had Obama such a high public approval? Honestly now, was it because of the good job he did as President or because of the fact that he was the 1st Black President in the history of the U.S. and that gave him an instant pass on everything?

There's no way to avoid buying computers from China. Other things, sure.

I'd think a big tariff would make a compelling reason. And save the planet too! No more CO2 spewing cargo ships.

Have you seen their working conditions? Those factories with dormitories and nets to keep people from launching themselves out the window and killing themselves? I think there are better, more earth friendly and more people friendly ways to make iPhones and such.

From the article, I could care less, but context is important:
Presidents Harry Truman and Barack Obama scored the biggest first-year stock market gains, largely because they came into office following deep sell-offs.

Find a new way to hate the POTUS every day.
He gives the world a new reason pretty much every day.
[doublepost=1520104754][/doublepost]
I don't know if this really is good... or bad... but I would be hugely surprised if Trump backs down. His overarching MAGA directive has so far proven effective.
No it hasn't. Stupid decision after stupid decision, his presidency has been a disaster to the point where our standing among the world has been eroded and both China and Russia are taking advantage of it. The leader of China suspended term limits a few days ago, because he knows that America is currently without a competent leader.
[doublepost=1520104981][/doublepost]
About time we try to protect what manufacturing we have left with tariffs. Short term economic pain, long term economic payoff... every other country has huge tariffs but they hide it in their VAT. This is an issue that Trump and Bernie Sanders actually overlapped on. But like everything else I doubt much will really get done because every decent idea Trump has gets overruled by the bribed and treasonous Republicans.
Hint: Trump is one of those treasonous Republicans.
[doublepost=1520105180][/doublepost]
So the headline of the article states “Trumps planned tariffs...would likely apply to Apple products” then concludes that they would have no effect. Just another article to rile up the resistance.

The reality of these tariffs will most likely result in more $50 per hour jobs in steel mills in the USA.
Thats not how reality works. 50/hr is 100k a year LOL. Instead of accepting the need to learn a modern skill, uneducated Trump supporters think they're going to walk into a steel mill with no qualifications and start making 100k. Companies never eat the cost of these changes. Domestic workers will get paid about what the Chinese get paid (adjusted for cost of living and area), the only difference is steel will be more expensive for consumers like us.

Rasmussen was the only polling company to predict a Trump victory. You're free to listen to whoever you want.
Rasmussen also predicted a Republican victory for McCain, Romney, and pretty much every Republican who lost a seat this year. The truth is Trump's victory was unlikely, but a combination of collusion with Russia and pure freak luck put him over.

The other polls were accurate to predict that it was unlikely. Rasmussen is extremely Republican-biased, but even a broken clock gets it right occasionally.
[doublepost=1520105879][/doublepost]
Trump has a higher approval rating than Obama's at the same point.
No he doesn't. His approval rating has been the lowest in modern history ever since a month or two after he took office. He broke 6 month and 1 year records for being the most disliked president at those points.
[doublepost=1520106085][/doublepost]
For some, I guess it's OK if other countries like China tax the hell out of our steel, yet expect us to import theirs duty free. This kind of one-sided nonsense has to end. The US should match the tariff rate off each country that we do business with. That's the best way to encourage free trade. They get the same deal they give us.

And shame on Apple for using imported steel for the Mac Pro, when they could buy locally. That's going to end,
Because that worked so well in 2002!

It truly seems Republicans do not understand economics.

Being white would've given him a pass on everything (imagine if Obama had children with 3 different women, peeped on young women, cheated on his wife with a pornstar, had been caught on tape saying "grab them by the *****" and "move on her like a bitch", and constantly called people names on Twitter). It was precisely because he is black that he got a pass on nothing and was held to entirely different standard of behavior than Trump is.

Fox criticized Obama for wearing a tan suit but is silent about Trump bragging about molesting people.

Top sources of US imported steel, in order:

1. Canada
2. Brazil
3. South Korea
4. Mexico
5. Russia

China is #11. Not even close to Canada.

There's no Canadian tariffs on US-made steel. Why do you support Trump's trade war attack on our closest ally, partner, friend, and good neighbor, Canada?

I don't see this as a bad thing. We should make more products in the United States. Other countries like China and Mexico don't pay their employees fair wages. They are pretty much slaves. If we can grow our economy here, we can help more people abroad. Buy producing more items here, we can get out of spiraling debt. With the profit margins that Apple is making, 0.2% surely isn't going to hurt them.

China has been raping the US and the rest of the world for years with their one-sided tariffs. It’s about time someone fought back. I don’t like Trump but I support him on this move. If that adversely affects Apple then so be it.

Top five producers of US steel imports. Where is this China you talk about?
1. Canada
2. Brazil
3. South Korea
4. Mexico
5. Russia

This is a good thing. Nobody wants that Chinese metal. America F#€|< Yeah!!!!!!!

Trump is acting against Canadian metal, primarily.

Trump is now threatening tariffs on EU imported cars:

So, is he going to add tariffs on any goods that have a u.s trade deficit?!!

Ugh.

There should be a tariff on imported poutine, Canada Geese, and Canadian bacon. Blame Canada!

Rasmussen's last poll, the day before the election, had Clinton up by 2 points.

This is destined for PRSI. They already tax everything at what 17%. I suppose it varies by country.

Governments have to get their money somewhere. If income taxes are being cut. Then it can come from import/export. People aren't saving any money in the long run. They are just shifting how they pay their taxes.

Is it a good idea or bad idea? I couldn't say. I'm not a fortune teller. I'm not going to parrot what some news network tells me to think. May as well give it a shot.

Edit: Now that I've thought about it some. Going after Apple makes little sense. Pretty much everything they make is produced in China and are luxury goods not necessities. Wouldn't goods actually produced in the US make more sense. Such as agricultural, oil and coal. How about appliances and tires?

Given how rabidly loyal Apple fans are and their generally higher disposable income. Even with a tariff. I think most would keep buying.

Well, he had blocked the new import of lemons from Argentina, and recently slapped massive tariffs on biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia (let's see if the WTO agrees that there was dumping here).

Three percent of steel imported from China comes to the USA..... Herbert Hoover thought a trade war was a great idea too...in1929....how did that work out?

Someone forgot to tell him you guys purchase a large chunk of our steel and US Steel owns quite a few plants in the country. In any case, it's akin to pulling a Looney Tunes skit of using a long shotgun that twists around and shoots yourself in the bum.
