I'm sure someone discovered they had the TSMC chip and invented a reason to exchange their phone. Now, they're scheming another exchange.

I have no idea which chip I have, or really care - but my 6s battery is definitely much worse than my 6, which is odd as I thought iOS9 would improve things and i never even bothered to install iOS9 on the 6....

iOS 9 is better. The battery life on my 6+ improved when I went from iOS 8 to iOS 9 (and it was already pretty steller - I rarely end the day with under 50%, even now after I've had the phone for just under a year.)

Unless I'm mistaken, the batteries in the 6S and 6S+ are smaller than in the 6 and 6+... that's why their battery life isn't as good.

I'm extremely happy with my 6+, and happy I finally got off the S cycle last year.

So most likely during performance specs that were sent to the public, the least common characterized specification would then be used to determine all benchmark scores. TSMC would be just a performance bonus for any customer that happens to get it.

It's the same when Apple changed the Ipad design years ago from one fab process to a lower process without telling the customer, but in turn resulted in better battery performance.

Yes we likely would agree more than disagree (say 60/40 ?) if employed by these parties.

But this is popcorn time, frontier exploration

Btw.. The Martian is A-Mazing popcorn time

Btw.... Go Cubbies !

Iphone 6s with not dimmed half screen, battery benchmark 3.5 hours i think i have a samsung one :( is there no option to read out cpu information or manufacturer?

iOS 9.1b4 for the win !

But before we hit the collective panic button (I know, too late), let's wait to discuss once we've seen similar results across a much more statistically significant sampling.

Or not.

Since there is no way of knowing from the box which chip is being used, we're going to have to keep opening and returning phones until we get the TSMC. Apple should publish serial number ranges or something.

if confirmed, I'd laugh so loud about the Samsung lovers of the forum desperately wanting the Samsung's A9 chip on their iPhone ....

Is it conclusive that the battery life is worse because I'm not noticing it with m 6S. I'm getting the same battery life I had with my 6.

I have the TSMC chip. I was actually pretty happy with my battery life, I always see around 7 hours battery usage in the Settings app when I'm around 10% battery left, even with no low power mode.

Not sure we all know the details quite yet, but there is a lot of data suggesting at least this particular battery benchmark app is showing a significant difference between the Samsung and TSMC. I think that enough folks have done it now to say that there is definitely a statistical difference (although maybe not with a "scientific" approach, or whatever the **** that is to mean).

What this leaves us with is this:
  • Results don't reflect real-world usage.
    • Although both chips are A9, it is possible that the differences combined with the methods used by this battery benchmark are leading to these results, and that real-world usage doesn't follow.
  • Results are reasonable and real-world usage shows TSMC gets better battery life
    • Samsung iPhone 6s may still meet Apple's specifications, just the TSMC iPhone 6s exceed it.
    • Samsung iPhone 6s may not meet Apple's specifications. When (if) that conclusion is reached I'll be ready with my pitch fork (since I own the Samsung one).

Remember a week ago when everyone was saying they were going to return their TSMC devices for Samsung devices?
I do.
I spent some days trying to cool down all the hysteria made by the "usual suspects" on the forum, all of them convinced that the Samsung A9 was better because 14 is better than 16 (???) and ... Samsung is better than everyone else (!!!).
There were people pushing other users to return their perfectly working iPhone because it hadn't the samsung chip inside !
I'd like to read them again

and two weeks ago EVERYONE in the thread was hoping they'd have the Samsung one assuming it was superior cos Samsung and smaller (and based on no knowledge about anything what so ever, so blind faith)

I have no idea which chip I have, or really care - but my 6s battery is definitely much worse than my 6, which is odd as I thought iOS9 would improve things and i never even bothered to install iOS9 on the 6....
blind faith in Samsung .... lol
And i tried hard to convince them that TSMC has a solid background as a major foundry.

Apple quotes the 6s battery life as the same as the 6. The battery is smaller, but the A9 soc is more efficient.

It's quite funny, a week ago people wanted Samsung chip and this week TSMC :p

I honestly doubt it differs too much compared to each other. People just like to make fuss about every little thing.
especially on MacRumors ....
Hey, I know I returned my 6S last week for a samsung chipped one, can I please swap my samsung one for a TSMC one this time?

No you may not

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE, I'M GONNA POST THIS ON THE INTERNET!
Im sure there will be people doing exactly that.

Data from geek bench's dev show that there really an issue.

iPhone 6 battery score for the 2 procs are normal:

But for the 6S there is really a huge difference on battery score between TSMC and samsung.

Chipgate... here we are

Seriously, maybe his 6s with the Samsung chip just has a bad battery. 2hrs difference seems way to obvious. I really don't think Apple is that stupid.
Ahhhh, how cute - You actually think Apple still cares about individual users experience still.

Not sure if it makes a difference or if it’s already been noticed but one phone says Rogers and the other says No SIM. This tells me the tests might not have been the same?
