I don’t hate Elon, but everyone I follow in tech circles moved to Mastodon. Just installed the new Ice Cubes Mastodon client and it is great. The third-party app market is hot on Mastodon

Yet the monthly active users decreased from 2 million in December to 1.5 million this month. Still hoping that developers can take chances well to bring more people. There is also a good trend that servers are growing more and mastodon.social is no longer the only choice for newcomers.

Elon should write a book and call it “how to alienate and lose users”

Someone beat him to it.. 114 years ago.

since I’ve called you out for misinformation prior. I’m going to need you to cite all these claims. Thank you.

Oh you have called me out on this before? If that were the case then you would have already seen my sources for the claims I made, and knew that those sources were legitimate, as they were posted across different threads where I made the claim.

However, if you have called me out on this information before, and seeing that you have yet to appear on my notifications until now about any post I have made, it can only be presumed that you are here on a duplicate account; in which case I would be more concerned about the mods coming after you for duplicate accounts than calling me out on my posts.

But I digress.

Elon Musks bans people on Twitter who disagree or make fun of him:

Elon Musk bans journalists:

Elon Musk claims he doesn't like doxxing, yet doxxes Jared Kushner at the World Cup:

But yeah, I'm the one with "misinformation". I'll await the claim of these sources as 'biased'.

Online articles and mainstream publications can be unreliable sources of information due to potential inaccuracies, foreign government influence, bias, sensationalism and financial incentives. They may contain false or misleading information, propaganda, disinformation, and have an agenda that distorts facts.

Fact-checking and considering the source's reputation is crucial before accepting information as fact. It's essential to be cautious of the information presented and to cross-check it with multiple credible sources.

It's also important to note that just because an article or publication is from a reputable source, it does not necessarily mean that all their information is accurate or unbiased. Therefore, critical thinking and evaluation of the information presented is crucial to form an informed opinion.

When someone obsessively complains and only focuses on the negative aspects of a company and its CEO, it can be detrimental to productive discussion. For example, if someone is constantly bringing up their negative opinions about Twitter and its CEO, Elon Musk, in every thread on an internet forum, it can create a toxic environment that is not conducive to productive conversation.

First, it can be frustrating for other users who want to discuss the company and its CEO in a more nuanced way, as this person's constant complaining can detract from the conversation. Additionally, it can create a one-sided and unbalanced view of the company and its CEO, as this person is only focusing on the negative aspects and not allowing for any positive aspects to be discussed.

Furthermore, this person's constant complaining can also discourage others from participating in the discussion, as they may not want to engage with someone who is only negative. This can lead to a lack of diversity in perspectives and a lack of productive conversation.

This kind of behavior can also be seen as bullying and harrasment, as they are constantly pushing their negativity and not allowing others to express different points of view.

I do hate Elon, or rather how he behaves. But I don’t think Mastodon is the magic bullet that some people in tech think it is. Mastodon is (has been?) in its honeymoon period, where people will accept its flaws because “it is not Twitter”. Reality will hit soon.

Yes, because running a public company in a manner in which it tries to turn a profit is such a Karen move.

That isn't to say that this move sucks for the developers behind these apps, and for those using them. Having said that, though, you're piggy-backing off of someone else's platform, and thus are at their mercy. No guarantees, and was always a shaky ground for developers to build a revenue stream off of.
You don't think pre-Musk Twitter was trying to make money? They had content moderation that made sure really vile content didn't get on the platform. Musk got rid of it and immediately unblocked some blocked accounts. Then he introduced Twitter Blue which allowed anyone to pay $8 and impersonate massive companies and their brands. That made advertisers think twice about having their brands associated with hateful content. Twitter's revenue dropped by 40%. Yeah, Musk is trying to turn a profit by destroying the Twitter brand and business.

twitter business model is selling ads
other clients did not show them
they also didnt pay them anything
makes zero sense to support them. like, do you know any alternative instagram client for example?
Twitter wouldn't even exist without all the 3rd party services. It offered nothing except a bad user experience. But they had an open API that saved them.

People like me have been busy and I haven’t been on Twitter either. It’s going to take a while for all the dust to settle and, perhaps, Mastodon isn’t where all the dust eventually settles in the end. It could just be a waypoint for some of us while the next social media paradigm emerges. I think the Twitter deathwatch cult is going to be disappointed that it’s not going to end with a definitive bang but a long drawn-out fading away marked by stupid events and bad decisions along the way and no clear winner is going to pick up the mantle and carry on with the user base.

Why? I assume cause you hate Elon. But nothing the company has done violates App Store rules or even disrespects anyone’s freedoms.
Just note that Twitter and the App store have had a long history of back and forth because of moderation (or the lack thereof) violations. Once Musk took over and fired the moderation team, I was seeing a lot more NSFW content in my feed. Twitter could end up out of the store not because they don't like Musk, but because his actions cause it to run afoul of the App store moderation guidelines.

Those developers can go make their own Twitter.
Mastodon is full of child porn.
🤪 You probably just seeked and joined the wrong server. Mastodon is federated but decent servers are moderated.

Anyway, the internet is full of child porn, you better delete all your internet browsers. /s

The issue is that the social media space can only handle so many companies. You need a massive number of people using it and creating content.

As an Android user this is even worse news on the Android side of things as the official iOS app is atleast smooth and serviceable. On Android, the official app is a stuttery mess while scrolling and third party apps were necessary to use the platform. I was using Talon. I am deleting my account after this move. I cannot use a stuttery POS app.
