It's a MBA. The Macbook insignia is a sticker. I followed every inch of my own as the video played. This goes to Wasteland.

Eww, two colors. I really don't like it. It wouldn't matter if the new MacBook looks like a thicker MacBook Air. After all, it has a good style. :D I remember that Steve Jobs said that this black MBA keyboard is "the best they ever made", so I expect it will be present on the new MacBook aswell. The MacBook Pro however, should get something more professional.

definately not convinced with that vid. If they so sure it is real new macbook then why dont they just show whole thing, rather than go around the edges and cover up the keyboard.

Why do these people even bother

If the new Macbook is half plastic, half aluminum, I will not buy it. That being said, I don't think they will be. It would completely go against their eco-friendly approach to all of their products. I am predicting a streamlined all-aluminum look for the entire notebook range and the "pro" being dropped from the MBP.

Here is my take on why the video is fake.

1. Color in video is bland like it is not even shot correctly.
2. why would they have the keyboard covered.
3. I make videos, with the right software, you can overlay the same color to:
a. Block out the Air part
b. Give it a macbook name.

All you have to do is photoshop MACBOOK onto the same color background as whatever computer you are using. overlay the logo on top of the location of the existing logo, then with some playing on the filter blending, combine the 2 pictures to be seemless as one. I know, I do it all the time with our worship videos (combine 2 pictures to make them look as one). Adobe Premiere Elements does that quite nicely actually.

I learned it how to do that from the following book:

Also, isn't that the song for the macbook air? Why go through all this trouble.....

Were the Ti PowerBook's not two-tone?

What would the purpose of the aluminum frame and plastic outer shell be? Weight savings?

I could be wrong, but I can think of three reasons. The first is price. I think the price of metals, in general, has gone up significantly over the past few years. Only using aluminum where it's necessary could allow Apple to shave a few dollars off.

Second, if engineers were trying to fix the "splintering plastic" problem of the current generation of MacBooks, they would only need to place metal in certain areas: the palm rest, along the ports, beside speakers and fan, etc. This would mean a metal inside.

Third, plastic allows for better wireless reception. The iBook and MacBook series are known for having much better Wi-Fi reception than their Pro counterparts.

But, hey, we'll find out on Tuesday if we're wrong :)

Ignoring the logo, the mac in the video looks exactly like the MB Air to my eyes. EXCEPT for the colour of the piece of rubber between the two hinges. In the video it is almost white on the real air it is medium-grey.

Misc

Didn't read the whole thread so I'm sorry if this is a double post.

Seems like Apple.pro is just spitting out useless stuff now to get as many hits as possible. Their first "leak" seemed legit but the other one is a bit so-and-so.. They even said that we wouldn't see any notebook updates and no event until at least November and then the event comes out a day or two later.

Hmm..

However.. I don't care that much about the leaks now that I know the new machines will come next week! :D:cool:

help!!!

does any1 know if they will be selling the new macbooks in Mexico through apple.com.mx on the 14th of October also?

I NEED ONE!!!!!!!

i cant actually believe apple would ever release a two-tone macbook

Well, the original ibooks and imacs were two-tone, as well as the new imacs. It wouldnt be unlike apple to take and esthetical rather than practical approach to thier macbook design. They've tried that in the past.

I just hope that they get away from the cheap plastic casings. Miy ibook was scratched up badly in the first few months of use.

Trackpad Rumor

There's a rumor that the new MacBook's will have a glass trackpad, the question is... What keyboard would you use! LOL

I hope it isn't two-toned...

Actually, I don't mind two-tone so much as I mind a plastic backing.

No plastic please.

Why is this video even questionably legit again?

I just watched a video of a MacBook Air on my MacBook Air. it was a pretty weird feeling . Kind of like the revealing moments the Truman Show.

This belongs on page 3 imo

I'm not worried about the looks of the new laptops bcs I trust Apple's design judgement. I'm more interested in the new specs/any cool features we will get...trackpad, blueray, etc etc

I'm wondering why this video wasn't just disregarded as soon as MacRumors saw it. The video has no credibilty what so ever, according to pictures of the new MacBook casing, the power button is higher and more to the left. You can even see the thickness of the machine from the shadow it casts. the shape also consists to the same lines as the Air. Also, the "Air" text has just been covered over by a duplicate layer in After Effects or similar programme. If you look to the left also, check out the bottom of a MacBook Air case. It's a dissembled Air in the video covered by a piece of paper.Bloody stupid. their site should have no credibility from now on.

'flares out slightly'

Hmm, looking at Apple, video, iFixit, yep definitely an Air. One thing you have to think about is the way a camera angle distorts. This is identical to the Air even the bottom plate they show is the MBA's bottom plate. There's no 'flares out slightly" that I can see. I'm matching each piece up with the stock pictures and yep it's def an Air.

It only occurred to me to say something because I watched the video on a MacBook Air, and the video of the thing I was watching doesn't seem to perfectly match the device I've been happily using these past six months. Like I said: it could be a fake, but the bevel edge appears to be slightly wider at the top (the camera-end) than at the bottom (the hinge-end), like the old iBooks. See attachments.

Because the distortion is not consistent through the entire video, only on the sides, I don't think it's a lens artifact or a trick of the light. It could be Premiere-ified; cheers to whoever took the time to be consistent on both sides. But it's not a simple video of a MacBook Air.

I agree that there appears to be a suspicious gap after the "MacBook" badge.

And will you stop making new accounts to try to prove your video? RichardH1 and energylad both 1 posters and both claiming it's not the MBA. As if we couldn't figure out who you are.

I can't speak for RichardH1, but for myself I had nothing to do with the video. First-time MacRumors caller, long-time MacRumors listener. If it's important for you to verify this, let me know.
