Also, who is the UK scheme aimed at? In my area schools and colleges start next week so if it was aimed at them is it not really late? If it's aimed at Unis then I guess mid Sept would make most sense for UGs but not for PGs like myself.

Probably aimed at the most common new users ie UGs, which are also a massive cohort in comparison to post grads.

I'm no longer at uni but one of my student friends will probably be buying my mac if this offer comes into fruition. Also getting impatient.

Yeah I know how you feel... my course starts then as well but i also want to wait for updates!

Do they always offer 12 months 0%? That would make life a lot easier for me and allow me to get an MBP instead of the MB!

I guess undergrads.

i got fed up and went ahead and bought an imac, couldnt bare sitting here with my current G5 coughing up blood with 1400 in the bank.

shame on you apple for torturing me like this.

Don't Worry...

You won't regret it. I run Pro-Tools in my recording studio on a G5 dual 2Gb and last year decided to buy an iMac just to run email, accounts, internet etc.

I have to say that the iMac is just so fast and cool that I end up spending most of my time using that.

I too missed the boat on the upgrades by a few weeks through wreckless impatience however I don't regret it for a second. The iMac rocks... ENJOY!!!

yeah, well my g5 was an imac, and has served me well for the past 3 years but when im running battery 3 / space designer etc in logic 8, it just falls at the first hurdle.

now i can run all of my VSTs and my imac doesnt even flinch, with its 4gb of ram

i dont really mind in all honesty, i have an ipod already and the ipod touch (although awesome) doesnt really appeal to me much as my music wouldnt even fit on there. plus ive heard apple are being cheap this year and only making it a £100 rebate so i would still have to fork out an extra £100+ for the ipod im not too bothered about.

£100 rebate

Well that would be rubbish - isnt a touch ~$300 in the US?

Where did you hear that from? Was kinda hoping for new macbooks to be released at this ethereal 9th september event then get a macbook with a free touch (even if it was the old one!)

Hi guys,
First post here. I'm waiting to buy my first mac until the offer starts as I already have an iPod classic but want a base model nano to use with the Nike+ system.
I rang up apple on Wednesday to enquire about higher education discounts and mentioned that a "friend" in america had told me about the offer and the guy I spoke to said, "Well, it's just a US offer. I'm not going to give you a definite 'no, it's not going to come over here' but we don't know when."

Can't wait much longer. I'm going in to my final year of a degree and want to get familiar with the Mac OS before term starts.
Frustrating!!!!!

when this thread started i was going to buy a imac 2 days later but i decided to wait for this offer to come but i can't wait as i start a art and design course at college on 8th september and decided to buy a imac 24" 2.8GHz yesterday which should come on monday
and i wanted a ipod for college but i said forget as i will just use my iphone and i had to get the imac a week early as i want to experience it as ive only has a macbook and a macbook pro in my past and transfer all my stuff = 212GB of stuff on to it before i start college

Usually when the apple stores go down, you get a sign as below, however it does appear that it's just the education section of the site thats having problems which is VERY interesting. I got the 'Error Serving Request' then refreshed and it worked fine.

it loads the site but there are still invalid links
and the mac pro doesn't have a price shown
click the discount for student at the bottom and look what happens

Also, I've just noticed that alot of the prices are missing, and when you click on say 'Macbook' to go to the Macbook Page, it doesn't give you the usual options of different specs. (Apologies for the screenshots being in Windows lol).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on my 2nd screenshot it says under 'Mac Pro' "From £1369".

I've just been on the Apple site again, and it says "From "£1608.58"

Could we be in for a price reduction???

I've got a feeling that they will be giving it out within the next 2-3 weeks. They currently have the Apple TV advertised on the store page, which is a oldish product, so they will be wanting to make the store page look different from what it did 2 weeks ago. Then in about another 2 weeks they will change it to ' Free iPod with Mac Purchase'.

I can hope can't I :p...

Seriously When is it going to happen Apple !

i'm looking to buy the imac 24" 3.06ghz, but i'm just gonna wait the rumoured apple event on the sept 9th and see if they will be bumping the specs up... if they do bump up the specs, i sure hope they have the "back to school" promo too =]

I'm getting/thinking the exact same thing... a few more weeks wait will definitely be worth it if there gonna be even faster for the same price! And they say it may be before the holiday season, which season Christmas ?

I guess it depends which country they're referring to... if it's the US then perhaps Thanksgiving (Nov) is the next holiday season whereas here in the UK it would be Christmas (right?! lol!)

I'm in almost the same situation. Shopping for a 24" 2.8ghz, but waiting either for a speed bump in september, or the start of the back to school promotion. I really fancy an iPod touch i could use as a dedicated AppleTV remote!

Sod's law say that if i give up waiting BtS or speed bumps will happen the very next day...
