Anyone found a 13" touch bar model with 16GB/512GB in store, which wasn't 3.3 ghz CPU? I'd like to not sacrifice battery life any further...
I was told the 3.3/16/512 model is only 16GB model they're stocking.

Thanks for your help, that is quite a bummer. A £250 premium for actually, no noticeable performance gains but noticeable battery drain .
I'm not sure about that, and residual value is a factor too. :)

The faster the CPU, using medium/higher loads results in a lower battery life. On light loads, it is more similar, although still favours the slower CPU (This is according to some benchmarks which compared battery life across different configs, e.g. the Macbook Air). Was this the Regent or Covent Gardens store you went to?

I want to secretly hope I can luck out and find one with the 2.9/3.1 CPU...

Apple charged me 5p for a bag after dropping >3k on a MacBook!! True story!

Stores have to legally do this - although I know sometimes the shop keepers in various shops just let it pass by (albeit this isn't actually right for them to do :), not that they care, chance of getting caught is 0%).

Both. I was looking for 3.3/16/256 to replace my one that came DOA on Tuesday. Screen issues. Was told the only 16GB they had or will have is 3.3/16/512. Regent Street had one last night; Covent Garden had a few more so I went there.

There are lots of benchmarks that show lots of things! A spuriously chosen set of test tasks can show anything. At full load, faster processor = more power consumption, but less time is spent at full load for an equal task. For the average user, the battery difference between the base and upgraded processor will be minimal. Random factors like their personal preference for how bright they like their screen will make a bigger difference. I'm not for a moment disputing that the faster-clocked processors use more power, but whether that translates to less battery is arguable. Get the 3.3 and save waiting four weeks! :p

They didn't charge me 5p yesterday - perhaps they consider their drawstring bags reusable and hence exempt from the mandatory fee?

She was friendly and chatty, I wasn't going to moan about it. Got an Apple TV last week and o charge for the bag. Also, she realised that the MacBook was heavy in a single bag (after I paid) and then doubled it up, but didn't;t charge me for the second one.

Absolutely not a moan, but found it quite amusing! :)

I think it was found that it taking slightly longer at lower processor speed was more efficient than it being done quicker by using a faster processor speed. Probably down to heat/thermals and just how energy consumption works. Might be similar to how running through the rain will get you more wet than walking through the rain, although you will be in the rain for a shorter period of time.

I believe it was done via identical scripted testing so I would think the results are quite reliable. I think some engineers can probably shed light to why it is this way better.

Damn I was going to go to regents street tonight to pick one up...

I think when you call up the general line, they will only give you information as per "online" store and not accurate. Best to go instore.

It is very common for Apple to say something isn't in stock when it is, sometimes even in store, some of the staff are unaware of the stock availability - and you have to firmly ask them to check their POS system.

Yep, just called white city. CS said at first there are no 15" in store, but then i pressed her and she went into the stok inventory portal of her system (not just the apple retail website). She confirmed White City have the two 'off the shelf' 15", but no BTO configs.

I've got no doubt in my mind that everyone who has a later delivery date will find their configuration in store. Looking at the Apple Staff's inventory in-store, looked like they had every configuration in-stock.
[doublepost=1480007315][/doublepost]Btw, just checked my online order (which I'll be cancelling as soon as I unbox my in-store purchased MacBook) and delivery date has been bumped up from 4-5 weeks to 3-4.

Seems like supply is beginning to catch-up demand...

Well so far the only sighted in-store non-standard models are 13/3.3/16/512 and 15/2.9/1TB/460.

Remember when they go into the MacBook Pro section of their little scanner/stock checker iPhone they also have listed the 2015 models and duplicate listings for silver and space grey so it peeking over their shoulder it looks a lot more padded out than it really is!

Picked up a 15" base model from the Arndale store today. Cancelled online order (28th-5th).

Only thing is was given a Silver one and not Space Grey, read the box before leaving the store guys :p

Although I'm not that fussed...

Guys I just picked up 15 inch 2.7ghz stock unit at Westfield Stratford. They had this one and the stock unit and loads of them.

Ah, that could be correct. I had a good look at the screen, but was only interested in the last two items (spec i was after). I know they definitely had my MacBook in silver (as they brought that one out first; probably weren't listening to me correctly!). Then they got the Space Grey one out.

I wouldn't mind the space grey 15/2.9/1TB/460.
