I have two Apple gift cards. An Apple employee told me not to load them into my account and to wait until the morning of the pre-order to do so. I'd rather do it Thursday so it's one less thing to do during the actual pre-order process. What do you all recommend?

So if I want to get the phone financed through the Apple Card, I have to pick a carrier but I’ll receive the phone unlocked so does that mean I can just get the phone activated with my current carrier and not activate through Verizon?
With Apple Card financing, you will need to activate the phone on your pre-order with a carrier you have now.
Once you receive the phone, you can change carriers as it is unlocked.

That's what I am doing - pre-ordering with my current carrier (TMO) and then when I receive it, switching it to Visible MVNO (VZW).

Visible has a fantastic offer: $15/month unlimited for 5 years guaranteed - if you port your phone # and bring your phone from TMO. $35/month if you want the VZW UltraWide 5G access...

This is my first year using the IUP, on my pre order I selected “trade in with upgrade program” and “I am replacing my current iPhone on Verizon”, on Friday will I need to log in with Verizon info or will it be as simple as selecting my pre order, then hitting checkout?

Ended up biting the bullet and signing up for a T-Mobile Essentials Saver plan at ~$55, going to cancel once the phone is in hand and activated with Mint. Like I said before, cheaper than staying with a major carrier by far. Fun to have two SIMs for now, though! Weeeeeee pre-order ready

Skipped last years upgrade to 15PM . Finished my pre pre order just now, 16PM desert sand 512GB. I do like the desert color but torn with white also since it’s been a long time since I’ve owned white. Might change my mind last minute.
I just hope my credit card issuer doesn’t decline my purchase on friday and put me in the back of the queue for a October or November delivery date 🥲
If I were you, I’d call the credit card company BEFORE preorder day and let them know you will be making a purchase at Apple, and the approximate amount you’ll be spending, as well as the date you’ll be making the purchase. They will notate your account, which should avoid the transaction possibly being declined. I used to work at a major bank and clients were always advised to do this before making a major purchase or making purchases while traveling.

Except for Amex NPSL & Apple Card - they seem to know that people will buy pricey phones on their cards.....

But all other cards - should notify to prevent "fraud" flag on a large transaction not normally seen.

Have never had to do this in 20 years

Same but I also routinely have large purchases (looking at you pets and the vet visits) etc. Maybe if you don’t regularly have large amounts going through cc it could flag but otherwise never been an issue for me either.

I will say I'm with some others who were very underwhelmed with the color choices for the 16s. I'm excited that they seemed to make the Black a bit more metallic this time around though so it doesn't feel as bad not getting a fun color this year. I wasn't into the 15s either so I just skipped last year altogether.

No No you just simply checkout on the Apple site. No need to do anything on Verizon.

I just don't understand why people who want the pro features can't have fun colors!!!!??????

Clear MagSafe case arriving tomorrow. I never want to hide the phone's color inside an opaque case. Belkin says they're working on a fast 3 in 1 charger. All they have now is 15W, I already have one of those and it's compatible with the 16 but I'd like to get that fast charger.

Quick question on trade in..

  • Can I order the new phone now and then go to an Apple Store to trade in my old device?
  • Is there a chance that the store offers me a lower price once they know I already have a phone?
  • If I ship my device and the price quoted is way too less, will they ship the device back to me? Do I have to pay for shipping in this case?

The iPhone 16 Movement...

Once our orders move to process we should start seeing some movement to 'Preparing For Shipment' over the weekend. This usually happens Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon (PST time).

Once this happens you should be able to get details on your phone and let the tracking begin!
Here are some notes to help track orders:
If your phone status has changed to "Shipped", you can view the invoice on the Apple site.
That invoice has the serial number on it.
Go to Apple.com, then pick the ORDERS page (the little "shopping bag" icon at the far right on the home page... go to your orders page). Now, login, find your iPhone order... and click on Print All Invoices to see your shiny new iPhone serial number.

Track one or multiple packages with UPS Tracking, use your tracking number to track the status of your package.

Another way to find it, enter your phone number + zip:
Track your UPS shipments here using your reference number
If your phone number isn’t working for UPS tracking, use your order number but subtract the last two numbers/letters. For example: Say your order number is: W123456789, You'd put in: W1234567 - make sure to use the tracking by reference feature.

Apple today announced the iPhone 16 Pro and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max—its latest flagship smartphones—featuring larger displays, an all-new Camera Control button, and the A18 Pro chip.

16 pro

The ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ has a 6.3-inch display, while the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max features a 6.9-inch display – the biggest iPhone display ever. The borders around the display are the thinnest of any Apple device. The titanium frame now features a new blasted finish and a refreshed selection of color options: a darker Black Titanium, brighter White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and a new Desert Titanium.

The new devices contain the A18 Pro chip with Apple Intelligence support. It is faster and more efficient than the A18 in the iPhone 16 and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus. The A18 Pro is made using 2nd-generation 3nm technology and offers a new 16-core Neural Engine with 17% more memory bandwidth. Apple Intelligence tasks run up to 15% faster than on the A17 Pro. A new, faster 6-core GPU runs up to 20% faster than A17 Pro. A new 6-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores is 15% faster and 20% more efficient than A17 Pro, with next-generation machine learning accelerators. It also supports faster USB-C speeds and two-times data processing for video encoding.

A new "Fusion" 48-megapixel camera and refreshed camera interface offer a 2nd-generation quad-pixel sensor, with 0 shutter lag for 48MP ProRAW and HEIF photos. There is also a 48-megapixel ultra wide camera for the first time, with a quad-pixel sensor with autofocus. The 5x tetraprism telephoto camera is also now present on the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌.

The Camera Control is a dedicated, flush sapphire crystal button with haptic feedback dedicated to camera app functions. Clicking the Camera Control launches the camera app. Clicking again takes a picture, while clicking to hold records video. The Camera Control also offers touch gestures, allowing it to distinguish between a click and a lighter press. A light press reveals a new clean preview to help users focus on framing the shot, while a new overlay allows for quick access to camera functions like zoom. Users can press lightly twice to see other controls and slide to the preferred one. The camera app also has intelligent audio treatment to reduce wind noise.

The Camera Control also gains Visual Intelligence, a new Apple Intelligence feature exclusive to the ‌iPhone 16‌ lineup. Visual Intelligence is invoked by the Camera Control, allowing users to point their ‌iPhone‌'s camera at something and pull up contextual details such as information about a restaurant, as well as take actions like filling out a calendar event.

Are you going to upgrade your iPhone 16 this year?
Almost forgot to start following this thread! Jumping it at page 10 I guess. Great start and well put together. Cheers. Looking forward to following and tracking our phones again.

512GB 16PM Desert Ti pre-pre-ordered for Friday! Was able to get it in just before 2pm PDT yesterday (9/09). We even have a bonus event going on 9/20 - where a new Apple Store is opening in Torrance, CA, so I may try and do ISPU and reserve the earliest time. Wonder if that might get me in a separate line to get into the store early!

The Trade-in Process in store is sometimes done on a separate transaction - or you have to make an appointment to do that. You can always try, but if you show up to pickup your new phone and don't have trade-in already set up, they may tell you to file for it online because launch day will be so busy...they may not want to hold up for an impromptu trade-in.

Price wise - if it's pre-arranged, they can't lower the value unless it doesn't meet the conditions you say it meets (cosmetically, functionally, glass, buttons, power on, etc.) I would be worried though, and I think it's the norm that on Launch day, trade-in prices tend to drop. It's why a lot of folks trade-in their devices, or at least set that up with a confirmed offer, BEFORE launch day.

If you send it, they evaluate and lower the price, they do offer to see if you'll accept it or not. No, I don't believe you'd pay for the return shipment back to you. That may be in the fine print of the offer though.
