And not only that, you can’t choose between AppleCare plus full amount and the monthly amount on the veterans site. At least at this time.
i didn't even realize that! i always just pick the full amount (without theft). but it would be nice to get the monthly payment at the vet discount!

What is the least expensive way to buy an iPhone without getting into a contract with a carrier? Using the AppleCard through the Apple Store? OR is there something else?

right now at release? vet or student website. if you can wait... there may be sales coming up around black friday?

I have entered my Apple gift cards and credit card info. Hopefully I can breeze through checkout Friday morning.

I'll be sitting in front of my Mac mini at 8am with the iPad and iPhone ready as backups just in case.

No trade-in selected. I'll attempt to do that instead in-person once I pickup the 16 PM at my local Apple store. That's what I did last year.

I am hoping to do that as well. When I order the 14P i used delivery and UPS wouldn't leave the phone and of course, since I was at work when they came, they took it back tot he local UPS depot where I had to wait with a lot of other folks in the same situation. To make it worse my driver hadn't even returned to the depot yet so I had to wait for him to return, unload his stuff and they hey had to sort out all the undelivered phones. It took almost 2 hours. Never again. I'd have them deliver to my office but the same thing will happen if they deliver after the office closes.

This is something I'm worried about too - I can't figure out how to add business hours to an address that Apple lets me specify is a business.

The usual carriers all stop by pretty early in the day, so I should be fine. Anxiety is irrational though.

so you have a warm room of devices to order? ha!
You wouldn't believe my studio! I actually have 4 Mac devices and have them all available for awaiting Apple Store coming on-line on Friday morning.

Room is much cooler now that all are Apple silicon, it used to be a lot hotter with my old iMac and Mac Pro Intel processors running the show!

We did use our old 2010 iMac as an auxiliary heat source back in the day!

I plan to buy a new 16 Pro Max by financing through Apple. I also am thinking about trading in my 14 Pro Max to Apple.

1. After Apple gets the phone and confirms the condition, do they apply the full amount of the trade in value towards the 16 Pro Max OR do they apply monthly credits over the duration of the 24-month financing period?

2. If they do apply monthly credits over 24-months, what happens if I upgrade to the 17 next year? Do I lose the remaining credits?

Thanks

One year I ordered an OWC SSD and got overnight UPS delivery scheduled to arrive in pre-noon hours of iPhone launch day. The iPhone usually would be delivered late afternoon by UPS, but it was delivered early due to the OWC shipment. Bonus!

My usual strategy is to use UPS My Choice to request a hold at the local UPS CC and drive over to pick it up after morning rush hour. I've never had more than 1 person in front of me in line at the CC.

I often will stop by at the Apple Store on my way home just to see what is going on there.

I could just select the in store pickup, but I love the ritual of tracking the iPhone's flights and sharing the experience with the people in this thread.

My favorite tracking experience was hearing my UPS 747 flight go over my house on the way to Louisville from Anchorage, it had to fly over Cincinnati to go around a big storm over the usual route.

Another was when my phone arrived from Hong Kong and several days later my iPhone backtracked the route with me as I flew over Anchorage on my way to Hong Kong. The next week we flew back over Anchorage and I could see the cargo carrying planes lining up below to land in Anchorage while my non-stop commercial flight continued to EWR.

Interesting. My experience has been the opposite. I'll try both by clicking on the url links in the calendar reminder.
It was the first year for me where the website loaded first before the apple store app!! I was really stressed. I hope this year I can just order on my phone. 😅

If you finance with Apple and at the time of ordering enter your trade-in information, the trade-in amount is applied immediately and the monthly payment reflects the net prices of the phone (retail - trade in). If the phone doesn't meet the condition you specified, I'm not sure what happens. You would lose at least part of the discount, and I assume that would be reflected in the monthly payment but I don't know for sure. If you decide next year to upgrade to the 17, you still owe any remaining amount on your 16. You could pay it off in full at that time or continue to make payments on it, I expect.

Dumb question, if I may. What option do you select for a store trade in? Or do you select no trade in and when you get the new phone just take your old phone to the store for the trade in? Thanks.
I saw someone else answered but you also have the option to select what kind of trade-in you prefer when you do checkout on pre-order day. I always do my trade-ins at the Apple Store when I pick up my new phone so you do have that available to you!

I was in the main Apple store in New York surprising people in the store buying phones crazy 🤣

Right now this is all they offer. I wish that would change, and I don’t understand why not? If you go the normal route without the veterans discount and with the month-to-month AppleCare, full payment would be almost the same at check out with the veterans discount. But one has to add up all those payments over the 2 year period. If you keep it that long. 🤪

I have a dumb question. I’ll be upgrading a 13 Pro to 16 Pro but am out of town launch day.

If you order for in-store pick up they give you a Friday time without the chance to alter. If I skip that and go to the store Saturday or Sunday my order will be available for pick up still, right?

I know on normal orders you have 7 days but am not sure if anything is different for launch day orders.

I’ve missed my appointment times before and they kept it for a week.

I'm going with the 16PM 512GB in Natural Titanium. It's already saved in the app. I usually do UPS shipping but debating if I should do an in-store pickup. It's always so hard to wait all day Friday for UPS.

I'll be moving from and trading in a 14PM 256GB space black.

I figured I'd move up to 512GB since I'm using 146GB of my current storage. I'm not sure if the AI and new photo and videos will take up more space. Plus planning on keeping this for at least 2 years, so want to future proof it.

Good luck all, my your screens refresh quickly and hoping for launch day for all of us! :)

Pretty sure on Friday the website will be having problems
I think they've significantly improved the purchasing on pre-order day. Certainly there will be some who disagree with that as there are always issues, especially when there are unresolved carrier related account problems.

I have been ordering through Apple for maybe a decade now, I quit carrier orders when AT&T canceled my order with no known reason when I called to try to get launch day delivery reinstated. Apple orders have been great, especially when IUP makes for a seamless process with the "get ready" steps already done.

and you have a short time after the 2 year AC ends to switch to monthly..... so might as well just do the 2 year (AND if you trade in or sell before the 2 years.... you get part of it back)
